Sadly, as with all flesh, my beloved Father-in-Law and his wife are no longer with us. They died within 9 months of each other nearly 20 years ago. I am coming up on 50 years of marriage with their only daughter, and we have 5 kids and now 9 grandchildren, so Dad's legacy carries on. By far the boiler they brought me down to look at was the worst looking unit I had ever seen. It was a 100 mw stram generator so it was on the small side compared to some of the behemoths I'd worked on here in the States that burned coal. The week after I left they blew up the next door unit and asked that I come back down to ascess the damage. Sorry but I can't help but comment further on this: I've always been under the impression that in order to make money on an investment that one looked for a return on investment or Free cash flow or growth in income after costs that was reliable, consistent and growing. But so far none of these customers of NVDA are making any money, the cost of data centers is immense so these customers are going into debt to build them even though they are some of the most profitable companies in the world, apparently all because they are in a race to be the first. Apparently because the first gets accepted the most and then they win the race and get market share? Actually no one knows this, because - Climate Change (which even the physicists don't believe in it), but all this Trump stuff is really about energy, which everyone knows is required to progress economically. Why do we need energy? AI! Let me summarize that in different terms: We have a bunch of programmers that have a bunch of computer programs that they are all racing to convince everyone that is sentient or maybe profitable. 'The company at the top of this heap of inhumanity is NVDA that loans money to its customers so they can buy chips, which is NVDA's income. The customers haven't made any money but NVDA keeps offering them new credit in loan form so it doesn't confuse anyone's balance sheet i.e. as to whether or not they are going to make money in the future. AND they are all in a race to beat each other to be the most profitable. Heck even the Chinese are in the game. Don't try to make sense of it otherwise you won't stay invested and be in an extreme case of FOMO. Frankly I'm surprised the Chinese haven't seen through this but then they were trained in US universities. So the race and credit expansion is on and is the one point which Trump just might be correct on i.e. credit expansion have always been the only hope to get out of a debt spiral.
Sorry but I can't help but comment further on this: I've always been under the impression that in order to make money on an investment that one looked for a return on investment or Free cash flow or growth in income after costs that was reliable, consistent and growing. But so far none of these customers of NVDA are making any money, the cost of data centers is immense so these customers are going into debt to build them even though they are some of the most profitable companies in the world, apparently all because they are in a race to be the first. Apparently because the first gets accepted the most and then they win the race and get market share? Just being an engineer, mathematician and computer programmer and not a big tech marketer this kinda looks like a huge chain of expectations which is pretty much a bridge to nowhere, outrageous costly and no profit to be seen. One might think a little profit along the way would be helpful. One might also think costs (including borrowing costs) would be declining along the way. One might also think energy requirements might seem feasible or at least known. One might hope that society could hardly wait to be involved. You know like welcoming data centers into their communities.
Geez I don't know. It just kinda feels a lot like what a read of the tulip mania and I love tulips.
