Unfair article. Musk is taking enormous personal and financial risk to uncover grand theft by corrupt politicians. He knew what he was doing and made the sacrifice anyway. He’s already lost billions of dollars and has his life threatened daily. You write this crap but no one is trying to kill you.

Musk is an easy target. Anyone who stands out from the crowd so distinctly is an easy target. But is there anything we can learn from his experience? How about this: he grew up in a beautiful country with severe social problems and left with his parents when he was young. Did his parents go to Europe, or Australia, or Argentina? No, they went to the USA. When Musk had an idea for an internet-based payment system, did he implement it in Europe, Australia or Argentina? No again. When he had an idea for an electric car he developed it in the USA. When he had an idea for a fast satellite communication link, he did it in the USA. When he wanted to start a space launch system, he did it here. Is he appreciative of the opportunity he had in the USA to implement his ideas? You bet he is, and he tells anyone who will listen he appreciates the opportunity he had in the USA. Could he have done all this elsewhere? I don't think so.

Did he have setbacks? Yes. Will he have more? Probably. Is he dismayed? It doesn't appear so. Is he on the spectrum? I'm not a medical practitioner and can't judge. Is he an easy target for criticism, fair or unfair? I'll let readers be the judge of that.

Like I said at the outset, he's an easy target. We can point out his shortcomings or we can appreciate the things he has developed that improve our life. Sitting right here in rural Ohio I use Starlink to connect at high speed with the rest of the world. Thank you Mr. Musk.

Musk’s interview with Andrew Ross Sorkin says a lot about Musk. Sorkin was on the subject of Musk’s X losing advertisers due to Musk’s politics. I'm wondering if "Barbara" isn't just Dorothy posting under a new name? I mean there can't be two women this entirely clueless in such a small sampling of humanity, can there?

Okay, Dorothy (I mean, Barbara) let's go over a couple of things.

1. You wrote: "[Musk] has no business doing what he's doing."

Oh, but he does, Barbara. Musk is actually a real employee of a real government agency (Department of Government Efficiency) hired to do precisely what he's doing. So your claim is patently false.

2. You wrote: "He eliminated the oversight organization that would watch him"

Once again, your claim is false. While a "special government employee" isn't subject to the usual ethics and conflict-of-interest rules that full time government employees typically have to deal with, they are still subject to financial disclosure requirements and other reporting obligations. Musk did not "eliminate" any "oversight organization", and if you believe he did, how about you give us the name of it.

3. You wrote: "Yet this one private citizen has been given free access to everything."

Again, Musk is NOT merely a "private citizen"; he is a government employee acting under the direction of the POTUS, with access to whatever the POTUS desires he has access to.

4. You wrote: "[Musk has a] "total disregard for being a responsible world citizen."

Perhaps that's because he's NOT A WORLD CITIZEN!!! He is a citizen of the USA, and his allegiance should be to the USA and ONLY the USA!

5. You wrote: "Wake Up"

Please consider taking a large dose of your own medicine.

Invector: The last I read is that Elon is a citizen of the USA and Canada. I think that since Elon contributed so very generously to Trump’s campaign, he was hired as an expert or consultant or serve as members of which there are roughly 1,000 across the USA. The SGEs (Special government employee) are limited to working for the government for no more than 130 days ( we’ll see how that works). Hiring Elon this way saves a lot of red tape and, supposedly, Not being paid for his work with DOGE.

Expand full comment
Invector's avatar

I believe he also holds South African citizenship (by birth). And from what he has said in the past, he acquired Canadian citizenship so as to make it easier to immigrate to America, but that it's his American citizenship that he truly cherishes.

That's what I was alluding to when I said, "He is a citizen of the USA, and his allegiance should be to the USA and ONLY the USA!"

That "world citizen" thing that Barbara mentioned makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. None of us ANYWHERE are world citizens. And if we ever become world citizens, we will surely be living in a dystopian, totalitarian hell-hole with no liberty whatsoever.

No thank you.
