Gee Bill what is your definition of free trade? I will give you mine: products are produced in each trading country with no subsidization involved or tariffs and we trade on quality and price. When you charge 10% tariffs on an automobile while the other country charges 2.5%, that is not free trade. Anyone who thinks so needs a ct scan to see if they have anything between their ears.
I have a question. Who charges these "extra" taxes? It is not You and I . It is government . That is who . So that they can spend unearned money on their pet projects . This is not unique to North America , but world wide. Stop depending on government to rule Your life . They should be out in the back forty. Just My simple opinion. As an observer of life and the many twists and turns.
"products are produced in each trading country with no subsidization involved or tariffs." This flies against human nature, and its precisely why it's never happened and why it won't in the future. Free trade is a ruse. Better to live in the real world rather than the ideological world. My pocketbook can care less if I'm right, but I damn well better be effective.
Just let governments hurt their own people as they use details like yours to justify that mistreatment. What do you care if the leadership of Bangladesh is so stupid or greedy (as in the case of our president) to put a 500% tariff on US cars. If the shirts their people produce are want enhances your life, what is your problem?
If I may interject. USA was better , but not now. They seem to have left their foundation of what built the USA. Just My opinion and from what I can see there is no country in this world worth their "salt" . Well maybe Argentina as they are trying to overcome. Yes I will give Trump "E" for effort to try and turn this mighty war ship around. Time will tell , just do not know if I will be around to see it.
I'm going to love to view the picture of egg all over your face, as well as that idiot Larry you so diligently quote. I suppose in your mind, we should just keep going, you know, print more money, increase the deficit - after all this is the fodder you rely upon for your constant, unrelenting disparaging of Trump. I for one am glad he (Trump) is trying something that might make some sense if you gave it half a chance. Oh, btw so far this morning over 50 States (countries) have been in contact and want to drop all tariffs. Hmm, can it be? Perhaps it might work, oh dear, then what will the once great BBB do for fodder? When you are sitting on the biggest market in the world and everyone wants to get thier products here it is almost criminal to have to pay them for the right to sell here don't you think? Well lets just say, you haven't exactly been doing a lot of thinking lately.
Instead, relying on a$$ hats like Summers and Stockman (whose columns are so obtuse it takes hours to figure out what the he$$ he is selling). In the end, despite the 50K or so of protestors across the country, the majority of Americans are all for change. Bring down costs, (Gas/oil are already down) revise the tax system (BTW per the dems, Trump is doing this to provide tax cuts to billionaires can you explain to me how cutting taxes on tips and social security = tax cuts for Billionaires?) I think you cannot.
Finally, something like less than 5% of Americans trade stocks (minus 401K) which is probably why only you big shot multi-millionaires are crying, bitching and moaning about losing the status quo. Tisk, tisk, isn't this what maximum safety mode was all about? Or is that more BS from the BBBPR team? Now that it is hear, you are crying like a little school girl so BBB which is it?
Nailed it on most every level. I, for one, am not going to take my time to link to all the good and beneficial things that are happening in our Country. You touched on just a few and it won't make a dent - these people are completely motivated by Hatred and Jealousy, facts mean nothing to them.
I will ask, regarding the "50,000 protesters" - are they protesters or employees? Typical dimoctrat/libtarde fakery and BS:
They consistently publish/aggregate WAY too much Truth for many of the commenters on this sub stack. And they provide real, actionable Financial information and analysis on the daily - unlike some other sites I could cite, ahem...
I guess there was a good reason Reagan took that snot nosed, arrogant little twit Stockman to the woodshed! Some people never change. Stockman being one.
Thanks again Craig for posting that article. After reading it I’m even more disgusted with Bill Bonner’s slurping of that absolute bum, David Stockman! When Reagan took him to the damn woodshed, it should have been a one way trip. And it did remind me why Reagan called the Republican Party the STUPID PARTY!!! Good Lord, some things never change. They always find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!
Mr. Whitfield, Thank you for the article from Paul Craig Roberts, whose name I had heard before, but had never read any of his work. I appreciated more about what he said in another article on that website about Pres. Trump's second term so far. I like how he agreed with Pres. Trump on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, DOGE, & tariffs. But Mr. Roberts wrote that the president's approach so far has been haphazard, then told us readers how he would have handled it in a quieter, more well-planned, better-organized manner. He also pointed out that these leftist federal judges who are trying to tie up DOGE are not traditional Americans. Many have third-world family backgrounds or are homosexual. He calls them, quite accurately, a Tower of Babel group brought about by Biden Admin. DEI policies. Very scary.
What I like about Mr. Roberts is that when he criticizes an action by someone in DC, he provides an alternative solution each time. Unlike Bill who, over the last year or so, just raves and rants incoherently, cherry-picking stats rather than providing well-thought-out, well-presented alternative solutions.
Bill's an ideologue. His solution is to cut spending to the bone. Yes, this would work, but its not feasible when over half your citizens are card carrying members of the parasitic class. Parasites can care less if the system implodes as they have nothing invested in it. Trump understands this dynamic as he's a realist. Like him or hate him, he's the only one with a plan to get out of the doom loop. If he's unsuccessful with reshoring production then our fate is secured. One thing all of us know; more of the same is lethal. I'd rather swing and miss than just give up and die.
Hey craig. You are so right! I always told my athletes when coaching wrestling, If we have to lose, lose trying to win!! I truly believe trump is doing that now. Will he succeed? I don't see how we could personally. A depression under president trump would be far better Than depression under the democrats.
More of the same is not an option. The Democrats need new leadership or they will become more and more irrelevant. Bill and David Stockman's option would be beyond painful for a late stage degenerate hegemon. I can't even comprehend the civil mayhem it would unleash. So pick your poison; tariffs with the possibility of re-shoring production, or 5% + 10 year treasury yields and a debt crisis. As for me, I take the former. When it comes to preserving what's left of my civil liberties, I'll take the current administration. I honestly don't think we have much of a choice :-)
I knew there was something about you that is familiar. I always told my High School and Junior College baseball players that, "you can't hit the ball if you don't swing the bat".
I see it as the elites giving the proverbial finger to Trump. They are the ones most impacted and will quickly turn around thier losses. Here it is 11 AM Monday and Nasdaq is already in green territory. Further pushing my narrative above, BBB is purely anti-trump. Trump can cure cancer and BBB's prose would be "Trump is putting Cancer clinics out of business".
Just My view , day is not over and What will happen tomorrow? I do have some money in the markets, so am susceptible to ups and down . That I have come to expect.
I appreciate your insight Bill, and always identify the objectivity with which it is delivered. It never fails to surprise, (but also amuse) me, when I read the myopic comments from readers. Beautifully, there are always accusations that you are biased, and each side accuse your bias to be against them from within the same piece! Please keep up the great work and the illumination you provide! (Paid subscriber to your work for 23 years)
Where to even begin to speak into Bill's latest rant? So many others like myself have arrived at the place of 'why bother', even if family members. Peace is precious, don't waste it.
I won't be surprised if I see a picture of Bill on some podcast caught keying a Tesla.
National sovereignty isn't guaranteed. If the political class is allowed to mismanage and squander a nation's resources you run the risk of losing your national sovereignty. Europe and the EU are a cautionary tale. At scale, Europe no longer manufactures anything the rest of the world desires. The UK and France both have lower per capita GDPs than the state of Mississippi. If you desire sustainability, you must produce before you consume. I don't know if the Trump Administration will be able to turn the tide, but I give them high marks for being the first administration in my lifetime to at least try.
I'm, OKAY with the Bangladesh making cheap pants. I'm not OKAY with losing our entire textile industry to sweatshops. Textiles are only the tip of the production iceberg. We've lost the ability to produce many other items, some of which are more important to our continued health and prosperity than cheap pants. Let's see, there's pharmaceuticals, semi-conductors, medical devices, heavy transportation equipment, and many more. The day will come when making textiles and other essential products in the US becomes a national priority. That day could be due to war, international trade disputes, boycotts, pandemics, or a score of other reasons. We need to protect our ability to manufacture critical goods in the USA. It's that simple.
Too late Alan, we already shipped all production and manufacturing overseas. I applaud Trump and his team for this reality tv show, but it’s still only a show. If Trump spent two Trillion helping to rebuild our manufacturing infrastructure over this next year, and then pulled this charade, it would make sense, but I’m still sitting back and enjoying the show. Make sure you put some of your cash that Bill has been telling everyone to horde over the years and pick any good tech stock and jump back in. And please don’t forget to buy the dip in Bitcoin 😊
You protect your supply chains by taking actions that encourage producers to employ their capital domestically. You're right about the US factories closing and the production moving offshore. NAFTA, USMCA and tolerating foreign import tariffs were yesterday's trade policies that caused the exodus of US based production. Trump's latest actions have encouraged multinational manufacturers to build/expand facilities that will produce more in the USA. The tariffs will level the costs between domestically produced and cheaper foreign produced products. We are the world's biggest market, and we haven't used our market clout to maintain our domestic production capacity. Shame on us for allowing this to happen.
Yes Allen, what we saw was a purposely created demolition of our country, with the communist at the helm. They first took over our educational institutions and poisoned our youth, then our media and poisoned our adults, then our medical, and literally poisoned anyone who took the jab. Back in the 70s, the EPA was created to prevent businesses from growing in America, and forced production overseas, especially in communist China. Many of us wondered why or even how could our government allow this🤔. The answer is where we are today. An incredibly complex web of deceit and deception created by some very bad actors, acting as American’s, but not. I don’t believe that we can stop this evil and believe the only thing that will stop it is at least civil war and most likely world war. Either is the end. So I sit here overlooking my beautiful mountains, breathing the most pure and cleansing air, and thank God for everything I have. Love your family, worship God, and prepare for the future. Because it’s here🙏
This is all negotiating. I have not idea whether this is going to work. But it's clear to me that the Trump team would be happy with low reciprocal or no tariffs as long as 1) no VAT (aka Sales Tax) or other political barriers on trading partners imports of US goods and 2) Europe and even Asian countries (excluding China of course) contribute 5% for defense of their own liberty either by buying American weapons or making an outright contribution. This is the so called real "rip off" that they enjoy at our expense which we can no longer afford.
I would ask you exactly the same thing - except I would be the one in the right. Are you better informed listening to your tv and people like Bonner? Escape your Hate bubble and get the Facts and Evidence. You CAN still join the rest of us in Reality.
Marx called your type "Useful Idiots" for good reason. I would update that to Dancing, Singing, Chanting, Violent Drones...
By putting people’s ability to buy and sell and work, etc. into the hands of government rather than allowing individuals and businesses to act freely and independently aren’t you the one putting on Marx’s (sorry, Lenin’s) cape?
Just watch how China starts dealing with the 5 billion people who live outside the USA and China; I.e., how it raises their incomes to the level of being able to buy China’s products. Trump has handed China opportunities even it could not have imagined 2 months ago. Watch it establish international payment schemes based on gold reserves and countries’ national currencies without ever dropping a single bomb or overthrowing a single government.
Btw, I voted for Trump (all 3 times) and believe another D government would be doing even worse! Both D and R Americans harbor a Navarro-knowledge level about China. They should go there and see with their own eyes and brains.
Last month I traveled 1400 ‘elevator-smooth’ miles overnight from Guangzhou (Canton) to Beijing (about = LA to Kansas City) in 10 hours, sleeping when I wasn’t watching all the other HSTs passing by, for $110. Try that in the ‘Greatest Country in the World’! Quick, before it achieves the pariah status it (unconsciously?) seems to crave!
I would guess, then, that there is no such thing as specialization and you are either a tool of your employer or your employees are mere tools of yours. Nothing is voluntarily achieved. REALLY?
It was all going according to the CIA’s 12-point plan, code-named “Project Ouroboros”: convince every country to print money like a SimCity player on a bender, slap tariffs on them for existing, then watch them implode by selling off their U.S. investments to pay for their own inflation.
A masterstroke of weaponized stupidity. No invasions, no coups, just economic gaslighting so potent it made entire nations believe hyperinflation was a viable growth strategy. By the time they realized they were speedrunning their own collapse, it was too late.
Fiat currencies around the globe turned into Monopoly money soaked in lighter fluid, and the only thing stronger than the dollar was the schadenfreude echoing through Langley’s break room.
When the dust settled and every nation stood barefoot in the ruins of their central banks, begging for a spreadsheet that balanced, the CIA unveiled the solution: a single, unified global currency, encrypted, self-regulating, and conveniently controlled by a server farm somewhere in Utah.
The world, desperate and broke, signed on without reading the terms and conditions. Economists were replaced with sysadmins. Democracy was replaced with a Terms of Service agreement. And thus, the great reset began, not with revolution or revelation, but with a pop-up window that read: “Accept all cookies and submit sovereignty”.
Terrifyingly cogent, indeed, like watching a slow-motion car crash where the airbags are stuffed with IOUs and the driver’s screaming, “Trust the system!”
Meanwhile, Bonner dines with the snakes, sipping vintage despair and passing the buttered venom.
But me? I think I’ll grab a gas-station hotdog with mystery meat, a warm soda pop that tastes like regret, and go watch a baseball game in a stadium built on debt, where the seventh-inning stretch is just folks checking their credit scores and weeping softly. Lol, Global economy, burn baby burn, but at least with extra mustard. 😂
Bill’s remarks today constitute a Perfect assessment of a man-made worldwide impoverishment program; a classic lose-lose program dictated by a megalomaniac who believes high prices will excite consumers to spend. Wrong!
You were wrong before you even started typing, yet you refuse to avail yourself of the Facts and Evidence of all that has resulted from Trump's policies ALREADY.
It is SO much easier to be Hateful and Jealous, amIright?
I am waiting for Trump to explain how attracting manufacturing jobs from abroad paying $5/hr to the US where the same job pays $27/hr will produce a less expensive product.
What he’s done is put in motion a worldwide recession
We'll have to wait and see about that, Jimmy. Early results are showing Trumpism having the exact OPPOSITE effect.
The difference is that if I am wrong, I will have zero problem coming here and admitting it. Your type, on the other hand, is guaranteed to just move on the next criticism, complaint or made-up victimization whenever exposed to be as ignorant, degenerate or indoctrinated as you truly are. It's often called Integrity and/or Honor - you can look up the concepts later.
Meh. Apparently you also don't need facts or even a loose grip on Reality to continue existing, even though Producing and Contributing would make you feel much better about yourself.
PS - Vitriol? Maybe - but I decided several years ago that I was DONE playing nice and speaking fluff to sometimes evil, usually stupid people who hate me when they don't even know me - all based on the sad fact that deep down, they actually hate themselves.
Castigation is not Hatred, Envy is not Virtuous. Get over it...
So if Trump is dead wrong then why are countries jumping to get in line to negotiation new trade deals? Why are companies and countries pledging trillions of dollars of investments here in the U.S. Why is inflation cooling and unemployment improving?
What am I missing? Yes, the markets are beat up, but that's why the vast majority of my wealth is in CD's and metals. I just smile when people ask me "how is your Brokerage Account looking?"
Too much to unpack in this disappointing rant with lots of strawmen and no real value.
Generally spoken: what all these "experts" like Summers or Krugman or all the talking heads on cable news networks can't grasp is the utter impossibility to change course for such a mislead and dysfunctional system (finance as well as Government) without maximum disruption and brute force.
Read your Machiavelli, and understand that soft ball is not the game here.
I know I'm a little slow but I thought a "Free Market" is when no tarriffs exist, "period". Obviously, those elite schools that Bill attended taught differently than my little high school and local college.
Not bothering to really read this garbage, kinda skimming nowadays. It is obviously based on Hatred & Envy, it 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 changes and it is 𝗻𝗼𝘁 "opinion" - it's straight-up Propaganda, feeble and easily disproven. Keep beating the horse, Bill - even while your folksy anecdotes ring fake. The negative "experiences" and "predictions" you gleefully vomit out on us ain't working because all around the Country and among people of all stripes, we can SEE the Reality. Even more, we can see the group that ignores the positive and has nothing good to say - they are not the people most of us would want to associate with based on their past and current words and actions. You have put yourself squarely in their camp.
What I DID get from today's missive is that you seem to be a rather miserable person to spend any time with. Were you always this way? There is so very much happening that is Positive and Beneficial for our Country and us "Little Men" - yet you refuse to acknowledge any of it. How pathetic. We are seeing real and excellent results from Trumpism already, and the Future Looks Bright in spite of your lies and gaslighting. (h/t PBD)
Does Bangladesh have an auto industry? Seriously. Maybe they make cloth seat covers for the less expensive vehicles (there appear to be no even reasonably priced vehicles in America). If anybody knows the answer to this question I'd seriously like to know...
For what it's worth, my portfolio was up when I checked it this morning; more green than red. Admittedly, I have a long way to go to regain what I've lost since Wednesday. And I haven't sold anything since than either...
Do you think Max Safety mode was apparently a gimmick? After all, now that it is hear, all you hear is "Billy "B" Bonner" crying, bitch and disparaging Trump. Never offers an alternative, has no solution, IF I want to listen to bitching all day, well I got younguns for that! Instead of guiding paying members through it he chooses to continue his ugly diatribes. Really good approach there Billy....
stiff ,How's Ur net worth doing U lately due to the Don. Aint that something to bitch about . Or are U too stupid to know what is happening to the USofA.
Stupid is as stupid does, since you asked …personally as the market tank, I’m up near 20%…. My puts are carrying me! Also, my approached to distressed bonds from just short of investment grade bonds is doing lovely. How about you Dick? I bet you are suffering through he old model of hold em forever. CAn’t do that today Dick, you will get burned. I suppose in your delusional frame of mind you think the Don should have allowed the status quo, print more money, incur more debt, you know, the Biden model, because that worked so well. BT, Thanks for asking, you make my points perfectly.
Yes SE, unfortunately, last Friday evening he said something that was not taken very well. I’ve been in contact with him, he was pretty upset about it.
Day-um. I had to bail out on Bonner's Bullsh*t for a few days last week. I had no idea and I'm rather surprised. I do recall that Dan recently warned him about profanity - but if he was banned for Content, that is a different animal...
I just did a quick review - it appears that maybe he just correctly pointed out (one time too many?) the actual performance results if one had strictly followed the Equity advice provided by BPR.
It has been less than stellar - that's just a fact.
I don’t know working stiff. I just know they banned Sluggo for too much criticism of the stock picks. I didn’t see anything where he personally insulted anyone. 🤷

Make sure you put some of your cash that Bill has been telling everyone to horde over the years and pick any good tech stock and jump back in. And please don’t forget to buy the dip in Bitcoin 😊
Protect, now that is a word that is many sided. How do You "protect"?
Right Don, how do you protect something that is already gone?
You actually believe these liars?
I would ask you exactly the same thing - except I would be the one in the right. Are you better informed listening to your tv and people like Bonner? Escape your Hate bubble and get the Facts and Evidence. You CAN still join the rest of us in Reality.
Marx called your type "Useful Idiots" for good reason. I would update that to Dancing, Singing, Chanting, Violent Drones...
Tiny amendment S.E. it was Lenin who minted that expression.
Thanks Petra. I often get my Ashkenazi Poseurs mixed up...
🤣
🤣
You are sooooo short of wisdom, you know there has never been "free trade". Grow up.
RALPH W.
Terrifyingly Cogent, Mr. Gypt.
And here we sit, some few doting over Mr. Bonner - who shared bed, bathroom and Supper table with the very same snakes you reference.
SMH...
Amazing...
We are not the same...
You finally got something right: we are not the same.
I don’t need vitriol to castigate those with whom I disagree or those like Trump whom I know are dead wrong
Speaking of knowing U Stary , Why don't U use Ur given name in posting all Ur balderdash . U ashamed of it or something ?
So if Trump is dead wrong then why are countries jumping to get in line to negotiation new trade deals? Why are companies and countries pledging trillions of dollars of investments here in the U.S. Why is inflation cooling and unemployment improving?
What am I missing? Yes, the markets are beat up, but that's why the vast majority of my wealth is in CD's and metals. I just smile when people ask me "how is your Brokerage Account looking?"
Good one Jimm. U stirred Starry up pretty good didn't U. Keep it up.
Jimm , Good one ,funny how a true statement like this has stirred up the riffraff commentators extoling the accompaniments of the Don.
I believe he has put in motion a worldwide depression.
I only disagree with the last word of your post. I would substitute "Amazing..." with "Pathetic..."
We have had Swamp Trade for many many years.
Yup. And we better toughen up and prepare to land some haymakers as the budget battle looms. The Senate has already dropped a deuce in that arena...
I know I'm a little slow but I thought a "Free Market" is when no tarriffs exist, "period". Obviously, those elite schools that Bill attended taught differently than my little high school and local college.
That IS the key statement, Kenneth - it is also what Trump has stated as the END GOAL of all these maneuvers - repeatedly and vociferously.
It is already starting to happen, a la Vietnam and Taiwan, with more to follow (but you won't read about that SUCCESS on this sub stack.)
The ignorant and hateful will choose to ignore Reality, again...
PS - P.M. Update, Zero-for-Zero tariff offer from the heart of the sewer. Expect CRICKETS from Bonner on this:

You are absolutely right, young man.
(h/t PBD)

Sure thing, Bill, whatever you say. Except that a LOT of people with more Brains and less Money than you aren't laughing. They are THRILLED.

But, but, but SE - didn't you read what that genius Larry Summers wrote? 🤣
Can I get a refund? I paid for nonsense and bad stock information.
Keep posting criticism and they’ll ban you and send you a refund! That’s what happened to our friend Sluggo!
Facebook got rid of the fact checkers, are you saying they got jobs here??? :-)
Wut? They banned the Sluggmeister?? Truly???
Yes SE, unfortunately, last Friday evening he said something that was not taken very well. I’ve been in contact with him, he was pretty upset about it.
Day-um. I had to bail out on Bonner's Bullsh*t for a few days last week. I had no idea and I'm rather surprised. I do recall that Dan recently warned him about profanity - but if he was banned for Content, that is a different animal...
You can contact him on his Sluggo Substack. I don’t believe he insulted anyone in particular.
I just did a quick review - it appears that maybe he just correctly pointed out (one time too many?) the actual performance results if one had strictly followed the Equity advice provided by BPR.
It has been less than stellar - that's just a fact.
So, am I next for pointing out Reality?
Pfffft....
I don’t know working stiff. I just know they banned Sluggo for too much criticism of the stock picks. I didn’t see anything where he personally insulted anyone. 🤷
