You can’t really cut spending without digging into the big spending programs. Neither candidate is willing to do that. And Congress has shown even less backbone; it will cut taxes... but not spending.
You gotta hand it to Bill. Only in his world do tax cuts that allow people, businesses and corporations to keep more of their own money increase deficits. He also ignores the fact that tax receipts to the Treasury have actually INCREASED every time they (tax cuts) are implemented. You can look it up: Coolidge, Kennedy, Reagan and Trump. It's a fact that is irrefutable, but the Marxists/Leftists/Democrats can't seem to wrap their heads around it (or don't want to).
Brother - I swear we were separated at birth. The whole time I was reading today's drivel I WAS THINKING THE SAME EXACT THOUGHTS!
How silly to think that reducing taxes and letting the PRODUCERS keep more of their earnings will stimulate Economic Growth. Bill conveniently leaves out this dose of Reality as he trumpets his cherry-picked "sources" to spew our direction.
I am somewhat in agreement that Trump (nor anyone else) is going to fight to reduce spending - seems to me Trump's plan is to at least try and get our money's worth for what we ARE spending. The remainder of today's missive is laughably out of touch. I thought this service provided access to economic "experts"? Meh. Today not so much...
And it's about damn time we stick other countries with some losses since we've been paying half their bills for the last seventy years. I'm curious how much money Ireland France and Argentina get from US taxpayers Annually....
I hope they at least get yours!! When has America asked, by the way these are the countries you chose to live whenever you and your families desire, Argentina, France or Ireland, to help us with anything? You talk to us like some middle class global citizen, that just happens to own property and big old homes in those countries and a large bank account
Mr. Gallien, I agree that Bill goes off the rails sometimes. But I believe he does this because he’s a very rich, successful businessman, who, as he moves through his 70s, thinks much more about when his time finally comes up than he used to. Common when people pass 70, especially rich, successful ones. So add this to when he occasionally becomes very bored fixing up houses and improving properties around the world. Thus he decides to spice things up (while getting a big kick out of it) by stirring up his readers, especially when he unfairly bashes President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu, as well as doing apples-and-oranges comparisons and cherry-picking stats.
He reminds me of the famous The New Yorker magazine cartoon, where two pilots are piloting their commercial airliner through calm, partly-cloudy skies. They’re frowning out of apparent boredom, then look at each other for a long moment, and suddenly flip the plane upside down, then flip it back into place, and big smiles appear on their faces.
Do you have a source for the increase in tax receipts after tax cuts? The Reagan Administration tripled our national debt. If the tax cuts resulted in increased tax receipts that would be the "conservative" Reagan also massively increased govertspending.
In his response to you below, my brother Starboard provides plenty of receipts to back up my point, but allow me to make another one that rarely gets touched on. Government is one of the only operations on the planet where revenue is completely divorced from costs. Milton Friedman famously said that if you want to know what your government is doing you only need to pay attention to what it spends (that's a close enough paraphrase).
Having created and operated businesses (whose clients are all government entities) for 40 years, I can tell you that government is the least efficient, most corrupt and worst way to accomplish anything. That's why it needs to be as small and unobtrusive as possible (I think you'd agree we're also entirely divorced from those concepts at this point).
To close, your retort to me ignores the fact that we have this thing called Congress. You might want to do a little research on Reagan's presidency and take particular note of who he had to work with in Congress during his administrations. I'll just add that Reagan set the all time record for shutting down the government when the Marxists/Leftists/Democrats went too far with their positions and/or wouldn't compromise.
I agree that a smaller government is better. I was just asking for a link. I was surprised that tax revenues increased after the tax cuts because the national debt increased so much after the cuts. I also understand that Congress plays in role in deficit spending. My problem with Reagan is he didn't make much of an effort to reign in the government. In fact, his CIA was quoted saying we will know our disinformation campaign is complete when everything the American public believes is false. And let's not forget Iran-Contra.
Much of what you say is accurate (though I don't think you're looking at Iran-Contra correctly). But here's the thing, we don't have to go back any further than 2015 with Trump, for a perfect example of how much the intelligence community cares about what a president thinks, AND how little a president can do about that.
But why appoint people like William Casey or Pompeo to head the CIA. Why not clean house? Actually drain the swamp. Perhaps what happened to JFK affects their decisions. Bill Hicks jokingly said that when the new president takes office the elites show them a film of the Kennedy assassination taken from a completely different angle.
Drain the swamp . . . you're preaching to the choir on here (for the most part). BTW, love your Hicks quote, it's one I hadn't heard or read.
From what I've studied and heard, taking over the reigns in Washington D.C. is a daunting, overwhelming task. Especially for guys like Reagan and Trump (neither of whom had any experience in the federal government). They rely on an inner circle of advisors that have their own ideas, agendas, promises to others, etc. Reagan either didn't see the problems in the C.I.A., or he didn't give them enough priority or weight during his second term. If Trump is elected, he won't make the same mistake.
The fact that pretty much EVERY President has shied away from reducing expenditures does NOT negate the FACT that reducing tax rates ends up bringing in more money - every time. Reduced Taxes resulting in increased Tax Revenue is not the same as curbing out-of-control spending. To make an impact they both need happen simultaneously.
I don't usually do this but you don't seem to be a leftarde, so try these out. Note sources are from across the political wilderness and also note I didn't bother to go back further - the same facts displayed in these articles has held true with past tax cuts...
Without term limits in Congress, the spending cycle will never end. The other item that we need is a balanced budget, not some made up fantasy shoved down the throats of Americans. Secure the border, deport the illegals, and make all government employees held under the 25th amendment. If you are not capable of doing your job, you are gone, from the clerk to the President.
They all lie to get elected. Kamala is flip flopping like a suffocating fish to get elected. Send them both your solution. The assumption that tax cuts decrease revenue is not true. Defend yourself Bonner.
Frankly, I think Ol' Bill was razor sharp today! Just pointing out to us proles what lies ahead. And, apparently, there are many comments that find that offensive. Obviously, reading today's comments, many do not want to embrace the world ahead. The US$ clearly is swirling around the drain and causing prices to rise. And, the rest of the World clearly sees that reality whether or not we Americans want to just stick our heads in the sand. And, if tax cuts were the answer, eliminate taxes altogether. Problem solved............but I would think most here wouldn't agree with that. My thought - taking out frustration on poor ol' Bill isn't the way forward either. And, I surmise ol' Bill is one rough and tough hombre. He can take the heat!
Here’s how it works, let’s say you want to cut the spending amount by 2 trillion and cut taxes by 1 trillion, while reducing the national debt by 4 trillion, 2T + 1T + 4T = 7T
The money machine printing total is 7 trillion, meaning all the Federal Reserve needs to do is print an extra 7 trillion dollars in secrecy while promoting spending and tax cuts as a way of reducing the national debt.
The cuts and national debt reductions are tangible occurrences because the Feds can physically prove the money was reduced or cut.
At the same time “back-door funnel” the secret 7 trillion back into spending, taxes, and national debt.
A perfect illusion is created and it’s a win-win situation.
The Son of Fred, The American Savior, President Donald Trump is less than 2 months away from taking Oath and Supreme Rule over the World.
Tonight He will cement victory when Laughing Giggles Harris mustard mouths a set of garbled spoken tongues that dim light the dizziness eradicated from the Spirits of the Underworld.
And what about President Harris, Bill? I forgot more about economics yesterday than she will ever know. She will be an unmitigated disaster. Trump ran up deficits because of COVID and his ill-begotten stimulus payments, which only encouraged the Democrats to do the same when they took over. Big mistake. He thought it was necessary - he was wrong. As Democrat states shutdown their economies, he should have given them a choice - get to work or starve, and made sure the people understood whose fault it was. This is the major flaw in his thinking, but I am hopeful he has learned his lesson. If he hasn't, then our economy is doomed. If Harris gets elected, everything will be much worse unless she makes a U-turn in her thinking. Doubtful. I'd rather take my chances with Trump. P.S. I was hoping for Vivek.
Read Trump's book "Art of the Deal" to fully understand the way actual business men do a negotiation. Are you too naïve to see how this works? Did tariffs hurt the economy in his last administration? NO, China subsidized the steel industry in China to compensate while giving U.S. Steel a chance to make their business viable. Also, increased economic activity increases tax revenues. Revenues, if not blown apart by liberal spending, could reduce the deficit. Are you getting your talking points from the French? It sure sounds like it. Come home sometime, unless you're a fugitive from justice. Get away from the Euro-Trash mindset.
Gonna be tough to do when 30%+ of the "electorate" has no problem cleaning their butt with the Constitution. It was recently referred to as "a little piece of paper" by one of their "thought leaders." SMH.
I completely agree - going back and ABIDING BY our Founding Documents is the only way out of this mess. Unfortunately, that ain't ever gonna happen and we are likely too far gone anyway...
First of all tax cuts always bring in more revenue. Bill should stay in France where they have all that freedom, all democrats and a lot of the old Republicans will not stop spending we need to grow the economy and let Elon do the eliminating of many government programs and jobs
Having read a number of the responses to Mr. Bonner’s post today, I was surprised and somewhat disappointed with the reasoning. Even Laugher’s Curve was brought forth.
For those of you who wish to explore the nitty gritty details of the issues Mr. Bonner so eloquently addresses daily, I’d recommend you visit David Stockman. I assure you he is most capable of providing you with such - down to a knat’s ass.
I think Trump supporters are wholly ignorant and support him for his false god complex or the Trump supporters who know he's a megalomaniac, support him for the under the table pay-outs they'll get if he wins the presidency.
Bill, your forever blame-game is old, nonproductive and makes you look unwise as a "broken record". You know the U.S.A., is in decline as revealed by HISTORY of ALL other Countries that grew to be very prosperous. And you know the campaign rhetoric is "JUST THAT", most is NEVER enacted into law or policy.
You gotta hand it to Bill. Only in his world do tax cuts that allow people, businesses and corporations to keep more of their own money increase deficits. Maybe they mistyped "experts" when they meant "illiterates".
Dyson and Denning supply good info, it's the moron at the top that often times goes off the rails.
I think Bill is becoming French

If you’re going to cut taxes, cut spending, reduce the national debt, it is very simple indeed, and nobody affected.
Here’s the formula:
CSA + CTA+ RNDA = MPMT
That’s it, Done!
Cut Spending Amount + Cut Taxes Amount + Reduce National Debt Amount = Money Printing Machine Total.
Here’s how it works, let’s say you want to cut the spending amount by 2 trillion and cut taxes by 1 trillion, while reducing the national debt by 4 trillion, 2T + 1T + 4T = 7T

We don't even need to cut spending although we should! Just stop increasing spending.Reduce regulations and the reciepts/ economy will catch up
You feed the people enough broken political promises, over time they'll believe anything. Or at least the next promise from a politician.
The one political promise I'll vote for is the next candidate that promises to eliminate every federal agency that begins with a letter.
And what about President Harris, Bill? I forgot more about economics yesterday than she will ever know. She will be an unmitigated disaster. Sounds words from sound minds. Many good men & women know what’s happening to our economy.
But they lack the political will to do it!
We MUST go to our Constitution to right The Ship of State.
There are so many places to start that we could go in any direction and Make Progress.
But it all starts with A PLAN and some DIRECTION.
The only person who can muster ALL OF AMERICA is The President.
Everyone else is just a mouth with no conviction!
The 'President' ( CEO of U.S. of A., Inc.) only does what his handlers ( board members) tell him to do.
The board is always loaded with (((them))). As for the Trumpmeister, he is a TV reality character ... nothing more.
Bullshit!
