If only someone could create an economic system that used nothing but supply and demand as its metric... but that's crazy talk.

Yes we don't know where this crazy ride is going. What I am sure of is like 2000, Q3 2008, and 2022, I made a BIG mistake by NOT staying the course with the basics. Enough cash for at least 10 years, more Au & Ag in a non traceable format, and a few sold commodities that the economy needs to survive. History continues to show that ALL politicians lie and we can't we can only look to ourselves and God for survival.

I sure wouldn't bet the rent money on deflation, but it could happen. Here's why:

The president started a war destined to send oil prices through the roof but didn't want Americans to realize they will have to pay for it through inflation. But how to keep a lid on until the midterms? Solution: suppress the price of oil by a massive drawdown of strategic reserves to the lowest levels since 1983, releasing about 1.5M bpd into the market for 120 days. Worldwide depletion over 400M barrels so far. That worked, massively aided by China cutting its imports by 5M bpd. But it ain't gonna be enough as the war heats up again. Next ploy: why not intervene at the pump? Wish granted, with the introduction of Freedom Fuel.

The free market takes yet another hit. No one cares, as the ultimate con man runs another shell game to persuade the gullible that everything is under control and $1.99 gasoline is right around the corner. Unfortunately for him, the market doesn't work that way. If supply gets severely crimped again, prices are going up. That's actually best case. If the war seriously escalates, and Iran targets production facilities across the region, the long term effects will be catastrophic. That's worst case.

I doubt Trump really understands this, but the bill for the mess he's created is coming due. The world runs on energy. Oil must begin to flow unimpeded again. We have to hope that smarter people are able to figure out a way that the president can extricate us from this middle East quagmire at a cost of some pretty painful inflation. Alternatively, Trump continues under the delusion that all that's needed is more firepower. That raises the real possibility that the global economy will fall into recession due to energy constraints.

There's your deflation...

The rhetorical flourishes in the newsletter can be bizarre sometimes. They seem to alternate between xenophobia, orientalism, Trumpian whataboutism, American exceptionalism garnered from the sheltered views from taxi rides and hotel restraurants and McCarthyist denouncing of socialists and communists.

Guess to keep your media profile up, you need to stir the pot and press people's buttons.

Paul Volcker said that the odds of deflation were so low that it wasn’t worth worrying about.

Like Macron goin down along with the other EU "leaders" thanks to Trump. I think Carney would have been a better metaphor.

Seriously??? Really? Trump caused the EU leaders to destruct. While I am not a Trump fan - from where this ol' man is sitting, it appears it was self-immolation. Just one opinion.....

Lol you are reading too much into a throwaway comment.

Is it a deflationary boom then?
