The choice of the Crusades as a model for a modern defense chief is strange and unsettling. Disorganized, cruel, and ineffective, the Crusades were a monstrous failure.
Ah, Bill, Bill, Bill! Ready to trash Hegseth by taking a few words out of context. Hegseth is also a champion of the soldier and doesn't want to see them used as cannon fodder for useless wars. Ah, but just a minor detail, huh Bill? You don't even have a clue concerning your own hypocrisy. On the one hand, you admonish Hegseth for not turning the other cheek, a religious sentiment, and quickly pivot to the Crusades, war initiated for religious reasons. Then you seemingly connect both to Hegseth as some sort of juvenile mentality, notwithstanding his service in Iraq and Afghanistan and his degrees from Princeton and Harvard, and with no recognition of the obvious contradiction. Quite remarkable, Bill! Take your meds, Bill. Don't forget the meds!!!
Another stunner from Bill sticking with his program of trashing all things Trump and propping up the elites and the rapidly approaching destruction of our Country, all while perched inside one of his many closets. He uses a highly questionable interpretation of the Crusades in a weak effort to discredit a very smart and patriotic person who is willing to serve his Country with his very life if necessary (again.) And adds the obligatory defamation of Christianity through a knowingly biased and belittling interpretation of numerous aspects.
Once more Mr. Bonner - the readers here are not as stupid or indoctrinated as the typical dimocrat communist.
Yes brother Starboard, and like most of the bs and cluelessness coming out of our host lately, he had not even the slightest clue on what Anduril does and how they will change the face of warfare.
Concur. I read it now simply for entertainment. Financially, I’ve moved elsewhere for guidance. And, there’s no sense in dwelling on the missed opportunity of the last two years…an opportunity, BTW, I was repeatedly advised by my Fidelity “guy”, and a couple of others, that I was needlessly missing. Oh well. At this point in the bubble, Max Safety Mode™️ IS prudent.
I'm sorry. "Avoiding the Big Loss" is great advice so long as it does not turn out to be "Avoiding reality". Some are able to stay passively afloat in all seasons and conditions; others (most, I should say) must stay dynamic. Bonner is more philosophy than financial. One learns that over prolonged association. Thanks for all your involvement here. Best always. PM
Assad is removed from Syria and some kind of islamic terrorist group has taken over. I forgot how this started when obama and his sec of state clinton started the arab spring wars. NATO bombed Libya and Qaddafi into oblivion and a decade later there is endless chaos there with different islamic groups fighting for power. Obama withdrew from Iraq when the military said it was too early and isis emerged which obama in his idiocy called the JV which we still are fighting there and in Syria. Trump was the only prez to not start wars in a long time. Maybe Trump can reign in the deep state and NATO from starting new wars. I doubt it because the deep state elites and their stooges in the press are already out in full force.
Hopefully he can clean these dirtbags out but once again I doubt it. They work for the global elites who only want more power and money at our expense.
Bonner: ALWAYS the military; NEVER the Welfare State! We spend lots more on welfare (in all its forms) than we do on armaments and military adventurism. Nothing spells b-i-g g-o-v-e-r-n-m-e-n-t (and proportionately less freedom) more than faux government paternalism. Transfer payments (vote-buying) are to me by far the more insidious. Best always. PM
They are both very smart men, with BO probably being the smarter. They have values and goals that are radically different than many of us fellow Americans. One can't call people dumb because their objectives don't line up as desired.
In the Senate cloakroom, Biden was considered the dumbest Senator--his whole time there. So smart he had to drop out of Presidential primary in 85? because of plagiarism. Real Einstein.
Dear Bill, today's thoughts were great, they show me you are quite human and thus can get it wrong from time to time. First, you come after Hegseth, who served as a MAJ and for the first time in forever is not a burrowed tick in the bureaucracy 4-star general/admiral. I don't know what his capabilities in this role would be or how political he will be but it is upending the status quo on succession. Need I remind you about the working definition of insanity. So you fall upon him for the lethality comments. Bill that is the only mission of a military, for all country's from all times. It is a group of citizens, or should be citizens(ask the Romans), that sign a check that is up to and including their ass in service of their country. In our country, that is all the Dept of DEFENSE(not offense as it is now) should be. A force for killing, when not killing it should be training to kill and improving its ability to kill. Peace, community building, and other things you mentioned are for the State Dept and all the other Departments within the government.
If Limbaugh is correct why not go back to calling the Defense Department the Department of War. Personally I would prefer if our military's purpose was to defend the US not wage multiple useless and costly wars like Vietnam, Afghanistan, Libya, etc
Agreed on the purpose - it should be Defense. It's JOB on the other hand is what it needs to be able to do once it commits. Unfortunately both Job and Purpose have been perverted - mainly under dimocrat administrations...
Mainly under democrats but don't forget that Baby Bush got the ball rolling this century with an illegal invasion of Iraq. Ran up trillions in debt on his wars.
Just that it's both wings of the War Party involved in manufacturing wars. The pilots were Saudis? Guys whose flight instructors said they were terrible pilots? Oh but that did find a passport in excellent condition of one of the hijackers on the street the next day. But they never could find the black boxes.
CA: Yes baby Bush left Obama one of the worst financial messes in history. DT was known as “The King of Debt.”He promised to reduce the national debt-then his tax cuts made it surge, but to his defense the Covid didn’t help.
Completely agree. While we need a strong defense, I am convinced there is a lot of waste there - not just fraud, but allocation to questionable defense programs, etc.
Agreed that we need a strong defense, The problem is that we have a wasteful department of OFFENSE getting the US involved in battles that have nought to do with keeping the US safe. Korea Vietnam Iraq Afghanistan Syria Ukraine Israel and soon to be Taiwan. Far from keeping the US safe these wars provide a breeding ground for more hatred directed towards the US. "Death to America" has become the common refrain.
It's always interesting when we look back at history and see the path people have taken over the centuries. The military Industrial complex always seems to be the winner no matter who is in charge. 60 years ago I was involved in what a stupid 18 year old thought was a noble cause....later to understand it was a rigged game. About 50,000 of our guys were killed and about 250,000 wounded or disabled for life.
Then we walked away! Today we are great business partners with the once enemy. The Industrial complex made money then and still do today!
Oh, Bill, your typing fingers must be twitching with anticipation of hammering DJT and his nominees for his Cabinet. Let's start with Hegseth, that war monger who only is interested in "Leathality." What was DJT thinking, nominating a professional soldier who is focused on making our military lethal? Jeez, why would anyone want to make our military more lethal, especially since the Biden administration spent so much money and effort to make our military more Woke! Bill, I know you are a smart guy. I know you can rationalize that the military exists to kill its opposition. That is what they have been created for. If you don't see it, then I suggest you read Pete's book because he spells out his philosophy about the military and proudly stands by it. If Eisenhower was presiding over a country at war, he would hire Pete in a heartbeat. I guess you think we are not at war with anyone [and don't plan on going to war with anybody soon], and we should therefore make our military represent what a peaceful society would look like. Pete has some warts, and it is his duty to defend his past sins. However, suggesting that he is a war monger with no other desire but "lethality," is ludicrous and narrow minded. I would be most pleased, Bill, to see you either provide us with helpful narrative or just be quiet.
“ Like an impressionable teenager in a hill-country Bible school, he believes in a crusade between good and evil…” In its essense, EVERYTHING is about the battle between good and evil. Even a hill country Bible schooled impressionable teenager knows it. It is also known as common sense.
Bill, I think you missed Hegseths point re Lethality. I took it to mean he wants to refocus on what the military is there to do. During the Biden-Austin administration, who control our nation’s defense enumerated their 5 top priorities, DEI and Climate Change were on the list. And they were not 4th an 5th. I saw with my lying eyes Hegseth say – besides Lethality, - Readiness, Accountability, Standards and developing a fighting force that can also deter the need to go to war. Can you say with certainty there are other things more important Somehow you chose to place him in the context of what occurred in the crusades. By the way, the Secretary of Defense does not make the decision to go to war. That is for Congress and the President to decide. His only job is to be ready to do so. And one last point, there are almost 900 officers of general rank in the armed forces, with 37 of them being 4 star in rank. What the hell are all these chiefs doing? There were about 12 in WW2, with only 7 actually engaged in fighting the war in two theaters of operation and millions of soldiers.
On the matter of readiness, a few observations: DEI cost us $144,000,000.00 according to 2023 budget nos. so I guess we are prepared for whatever eventuality that was supposed to be useful for in the military. One might think that munitions ought have a little more visibility than gender, equity and inclusion. Take for instance our capability to make 155 mm artillery shells and the stock pile of antimony. It is nonexistent. We have ordered up 2 million for next year and you can’t make one shell without antimony. And China just banned the export of antimony to us and our NATO allies. China directly has almost half, and along with its neighbors and friends add up all but 10% of the world’s supply. The US and Europe do not have or control even 1%. Military analyst estimates that Germany has only a couple of days in a war and they would run through their entire munitions stock pile. That is what being not ready looks like.
Back to Hegseth, I will take him, tattoos and all, before 1 more general who went along with the nonsense that has crippled our military, gets that position.
Lots of good stuff. The President does not have to go to Congress. The president can declare national security. Then He does what He wants without the public blessing. Now I may be wrong, but I think not.
Seems like some readers are upset by Bill's criticism of Hegseth as Sec. of Defense. Judge Andrew Napolitano also said that Hegseth is not qualified for the position. I saw a clip of Hegseth decrying critics of dual citizenship and stating that 1967 was a miracle for Israel. Hegseth conveniently forgot that '67 was the year Israel attacked the USS Liberty and murdered US sailors. Seems like a slap in face to the USS Liberty victims, survivors and their families.
Additionally Hegseth has had extramarital affairs. Isn't he a security risk? Seems like he'd be an easy target for honey pot operations.
Well, Jesus was not available to take the position, but let's be sure to magnify every scrap of negative Humanity any of these nominees has shown in the past. All while we ignore any relevant Experience, Prior Results or Qualifications.
Then what are his qualifications to run a trillion dollar enterprise? Plus, why is he such a suck-up to Israel? But there are many "intelligence" operations like the CIA and Mossad that specialize in honeypot operations. And example is a headline from the NY Post back in the 90s that said Mossad used Monica Lewinsky to blackmail Clinton. Isn't Hegseth extramarital affairs with coworkers a possible weak point in his armor?
As far as Jesus from what I've read of his teachings I don't think he would be comfortable with us spending a trillion dollars on war.
I'm not into the Dims/Repugs dichotomy. I dislike both sides and there cabinet selections whether it's Trump's Pompeo and Mnuchin or Biden's Yelling and Blinken. Maybe my two favorite quotes in regards to our government are Carlin's -" My first rule is I don't believe anything the government says" and Huey Long - There are Democratic waiters on on side of the table, Republicans on the other side, but no matter who serves you the Wall Street Bankers are in the kitchen cooking up the grub.
How many have already been compromised? For example, we've never seen the records from Epstein's honeypot operations nor has there been any investigation into how he acquired so much wealth. How many government decision makers were involved? Hoover kept records of JFK'S affairs to ensure that Kennedy couldn't act against and at the same time the Mafia controlled Hoover with their information about his crossdressing homosexual lifestyle.
I too would like answers to your examples but I also would rather have a battle tested veteran leading the DOD. Besides he does what the President directs not what he wants.
Is there any evidence that combat tested veterans do a better job at the DOD? This might not apply directly but Michael Jordan may have been the best basketball player of all times but he was unsuccessful as an executive.
They have a better understanding of how the whole system works from actual experience than someone never deployed to combat. I had 36 yrs military experience and personnel who worked for us who had combat field experience were much better than those who had not. You can't top hands on experience. The Deputy Sec. of Def. is more important. They implement the day-day policies of Secretary,
First order thinking can’t lead to anything good. Why can’t our “leaders” ever consider possible consequences? Even the “brilliant” Ivy leaguers find the task either too time consuming or a waste of their rarified brain juices.
Oh, rKf, our coercive leaders do consider the consequences for them - simply more power, more money. Everything else is collateral damage and just the way the World works. Sorry peons. More for them and life is good. When the "elites" come under attack physically then they will wake up to "possible" consequences. Until then lethality will reign.
"But this is not a view that is likely to find favor with America’s, Moslems, Jews, animists, gnostics, agnostics, non-believers Hindus or Rastafarians."
Given that Hegseth is a committed ZioCon, one of those groups definitely does find find favor with his views.
It's sad and amazing that people who called themselves Christian have created so much grief and destruction throughout history. It's certainly not what Jesus Christ taught. Even the great "reformers" sanctioned death to those who didn't follow their partial enlightenment. The NT is very clear on how Christians should live and be "salt and light" on the earth.
Yes Richard, many communist call themselves democrats, many RINOs call themselves republicans and many child rapist call themselves Christian’s. Follow their actions and not their words…the truth always shows its ugly face with evil…
Commentary Entitled: RINOS Need to Be Herded Back to the Game Reserve
Source Attribution: Jim Rickards, Strategic Intelligence
The Senate RINOS are Mitch McConnell, John Thune, John Cornyn, Joni Ernst, Thom Tillis, John Barrasso, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Bill Cassidy, James Lankford, and Mike Rounds.
That’s a block of eleven senators, which is powerful because the Republicans…We can perhaps give Susan Collins some slack because she comes from the predominantly liberal state of Maine. But the other ten will form into groups of four or five who can block any serious action on the Trump agenda.
Over time, the solution is to primary them with MAGA Republicans. Ernst, Cornyn, Murkowski and Cassidy are most vulnerable to this. But that won’t change the equation for at least two years, and by then the Republicans may lose the House of Representatives.
• Trump only has two years to get things done…
• Trump won an Electoral College landslide…
…the first Republican in 20 years to win a majority of the popular vote. He has made cabinet and staff picks that will support his agenda.
• Republicans control both houses of Congress. With control of the Senate, Republicans can control appointments to the Supreme Court also. That’s a powerful hand to play.
• But the Resistance is real. A de facto coalition of Deep State bureaucrats, progressive governors and attorneys general, the military, CIA and FBI, the media and RINOS will do everything possible to destroy Trump’s plans. It won’t be smooth sailing. Investors should set expectations accordingly.
“…Pete Hegseth wears his cartoonish worldview, permanently inked on his body. Like an impressionable teenager in a hill-country Bible school, he believes in a crusade between good and evil... between the forces of Christianity and those of barbarity.”
Remind me to make sure I stay a lightning-bolt-safe distance away from Bonner.

Good way to put it: philosophy over financial. That’s spot on.
Yes, and my point was to take his comments about the Crusades at face value and still show his hypocrisy.
Been in France too long?
Assad is removed from Syria and some kind of islamic terrorist group has taken over. I forgot how this started when obama and his sec of state clinton started the arab spring wars. Very smart or very crafty? Though similar, they‘re quite different qualities.
Right Rich, there leftist are evil, not dumb…
Biden cognitive abilities were never what I would call remarkable

“speak softly and carry a big stick” - big stick = lethality
The Secretary of Defense SHOULD be someone who is more civilian than military.
I like the Ike 30% Cut to defense.
Let’s see if Musk & Swamy can find some redundancy in defense spending.
And 30% across the board cuts would be a good start to trimming government spending.
Then completely phase out some departments. Ex. Dept of Commerce.
A Commerce Dept was essential for a New Nation, but not the largest economy in the world. I would simply say. We already know how to “do business”.
Just about every organization in the world has REDUNDANCIES.
Plus CHANGE THE LAW so that government can no longer spend more than tax receipts.
Completely agree. While we need a strong defense, I am convinced there is a lot of waste there - not just fraud, but allocation to questionable defense programs, etc.

In that case they should omit the swearing in ceremony, upholding the Constitution and all that rubbish.

With so much going for the MIC, why isn't BPR recommending NOC?
