And just like that Bill posts another bone headed FALSE FLAG nonsense column that irks the holders of COMMON SENSE and TRUTH. It is vexing tedious and WRONG. STOP BILL. PLEASE STOP.

You can opine but not make up facts.

I served in the United States Navy for near 7 years and MUCH of that at SEA. Gator Navy and aboard a Destroyer and also at a remote classified Coms Station part of NSA. WE PROTECTED our nation against NUCLEAR WAR and China exploded its FIRST Nuclear Bomb in 1964. Russia had superb submarines. MOST nukes then were anticipated to be delivered by planes. LONG RANGE BOMBERS. We also were building state of the art TRIDENT Submarine base and Submarines in Bremerton (Hood Canal) Washington and ON ONE OCCASION the RUSSIANS were detected INSIDE THE STRAITS OF JUAN DE FUCA and we had to run them off quickly....which they did. A threat.

Russia ROUTINELY sent bombers over Alaska. And into Northern European Airspace.

The NAVY prime job was ensuring global maritime shipping was open and free and unimpeded from our enemies. WE did a pretty good job of that. We sent aircraft carrier groups, amphibious groups and others around the world to show force, support alliances and support our army and aircorps and marines overseas.

MYRIAD JOBS WELL DONE even in a severe recession with a major oil shock and FUEL SHORTAGE. I know. I WAS AT SEA AS SAIGON FELL (and a BUDDY was helping evacuate people on the roof of the EMBASSY).

We lost VIETNAM AT HOME FROM DISSENT FOMENTED BY SOVIET AGENTS INSIDE OUR COLLEGES AND THE MITROKHIN ARCHIVES PROVED THAT (I read the Archives Bill). We didnt lose ONE BATTLE IN INDO CHINA and btw our excursion into Cambodia was HIGHLY successful and SOMEONE GOT NIXONS EAR AND HE CALLED IT OFF literally 100 yards from ANNIHILATING THE VC AND THAT WOULD HAVE DEVASTATED THEM. AND AS IT WAS, LBJ REFUSED TO BOMB HANOI BUT NIXON DID ON CHRISTMAS DAY 1972 and NORTH VIETNAM CAME RUNNING TO PARIS AND SIGNED OFF ON DEAL. BUT THEN KERRY AND HILLAry and american marxists went to work and pushed NIXON OUT OVER A 200K SLUSH FUND (HE WAS TRYING TO FIND THE LEAKERS OF CLASSIFIED INFORMATION TO NYTIMES IT TURNS OUT WERE LEAKED BY A LIBERAL ANTI WAR JEW WORKING INSIDE DOD WHO TOOK THEM TO RAND CORP IN LOS ANGELES AND THE REST IS HISTORY)

AND THEN THE NVA SAID, GUESS WHAT BOYS AND GIRLS...NIXON IS GONE AND FORD IS TIED UP BY CONGRESS AND WE CAN ROLL....SO THEY DID..ALL THE WAY DOWN HIGHWAY 1 TO SAIGON....NIXON TOLD THEM HE WOULD RETURN AND BOMB THEM TO OBLIVION IF THEY DID THAT BUT HE WAS GONE SO THEY SHRUGGED AND CAME AND TOOK THE SOUTH FACT.

Bill HATES THE MILITARY HE SERVED. HE HATES DOD. HE HATES THE USGOVERNMENT. AS AN AYN RAND LIBERTARIAN he is MR POLLYANNA AND HOPES PEOPLE GET ALONG BUT WANTS NO RULES AND NO GOVERNMENT AND LET PEOPLE BE FREE FROM ANY RULES AND REGULATIONS AND LAWS. PURE UNADULTERATED NONSENSE.

STOP.

Well Patrick, I spent the mid 60's on a destroyer, part of it off the coast of Vietnam. The political class sold us down the river for sure. I do believe in the current situation, Trump will support the troops.

Thanks for your service too. I was never in country. I was not a combat hero. End of war and into Cold War. But I served heroes. A bunch of them. An E9 Marine on my Amphib ship had 30 years in.....WW2, Korea and Vietnam....not an office Marine, a combat marine and was grizzled and ROWS of ribbons the likes of which I had never seen. and he got MY HAND SALUTE immediately. and then some legends from Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, both army vets and IC legends. I was honored to know them and serve them.

What happened in Vietnam was tragic. Beginning to end. I studied it intensely and helped a friend write a book on it approved by DCI for publication. Ive read books beginning in 1948 on the topic and who did what and who didnt do THEIR part and the causes of it (French played a huge role in it and wont discuss here) and yes LBJ messed it all up badly....and how it ended in Paris and Amb Sullivan (Dont Get Me Started on that sumbitch) and Kissinger....and what Nixon told the North Vietnamese THEN.....but then the final outcome in April 1975. BUT THROUGH IT ALL WE LOST ZERO BATTLES. NONE. We lost it politically and the SOVIETS PLAYED A HUGE ROLE IN THAT STIRRING UP STUDENTS AND FACULTIES.....a documented Fact. And even Ken Burns excellent 10 part series covered that, to his credit. SEE IT.

Now I share Bills and OTHERS concerns about the debt and debt service and where this leads and the long path to destruction (cf a hard default on bonds which would be worse) and I dont have the solutions and HOPE AI CAN HELP US FIGURE THAT OUT....GDP WILL SOAR BUT SO WILL INFLATION....I am long GOLD FOR A REASON. I DIGRESS.

Harold Shaeffer's avatar

"I am long GOLD FOR A REASON." Is your reason because you don't trust the future value of the United States of America currency?

Jimm Roberts's avatar

Patrick - The Vietnam war was a colossal mistake; an enormous waste of money and a tragic loss of lives most of whom were non-combatants. It — like Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan — was never then nor now a treat to the US.

Cartero Atómico's avatar

Maybe instead of starting the war in the first place we should have just stayed home? After all, Ho Chi Minh and the Viet Minh worked along side the US fighting the Japanese during WW2. Several OSS officers even attended his inauguration as president after the end of the war. If the war was such an important cause in your opinion, why did Donnie and other elitists (Biden, Clinton, Cheney, Bush, Bolton, etc) dodge the draft to avoid serving? Did you know that no member of Trump's family ever served in the military? Trump's grandfather was also a draft dodger.

Angry Icebergs's avatar

Trump's immediate family did not serve.

But Jon G. Trump (Uncle) was a career military officer.

His work directly supported national defense and wartime technology efforts.

Also famously reviewed Nikola Telsa's papers for government authorities after Tesla's death.

-

I had to research Friedrich, I thought it interesting...

He was a draft dodger, but his motivation to leave Germany was not to avoid service.

He was 16 years old fleeing poverty and chasing gold in 1885.

-

Friedrich returned to Germany in 1901 at 32 years of age.

In 1905 he was ordered to leave the kingdom of Bavaria within eight weeks as punishment for having failed to do mandatory military service and failing to give authorities notice of his departure to the US.

The Trumps left Germany for New York with their daughter on the Hapag steamship Pennsylvania on 1 July 1905.

Elisabeth was three months pregnant with Donald Trump’s father, Fred.

-

Residents of Kallstadt (Trump's grandfathers place of birth) a small wine-growing town of about 1,200 people in south-west Germany, joke that the blame for Trump becoming US president-elect lies with the German authorities who threw his grandfather out.

Cartero Atómico's avatar

Where did you get the info that Trump's uncle was a career military officer? Donnie's buddy Elon Musk's Grok says he was a civilian consultant to the military during WW2.

Cartero Atómico's avatar

If you are delving into the history of the Trump family check out the businesses Trump's grandpa ran in the US. Seems he specialized in brothels.

Frank's avatar

And the Kennedys were bootleggers. Your point?

Cartero Atómico's avatar

Just the fact that Trump supporters who are pro-military actions have no problem with their leader being a cowardly draft dodger. He was a tough guy in military school but suddenly developed a curious case of bone spurs that never prevented him from playing golf. Maybe I'm also amazed by the fact that the old apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Grandpa ran brothels and Donnie was a close friend with a sex trafficker.

Bill is much too polite when those he calls "frauds", "scoundrels" and "scalawags" are in fact unrepentant criminals who in a just world should be swinging from lampposts.

Jonathan CV's avatar

Bill concludes, "what’s to keep the Big Man’s Big Government from its Big Spending rendezvous with a big blow up?"

Ideal answer: President Trump writes off (repudiates) the bankrupt nation's debt. The great majority of voters in every age group will approve, and he will go down in history as a savior of the people and the nation.

Paul Murray's avatar

I used to fixate on when, not if, it was going to blow up. Fixating on the blow up's imminence also forced me, logically, into preparation mode, making me essentially a non-participant outsider in what was actually going on. Now, I'm more interested in seeing just how long it can go on, and how "bad" (or "good") it can get, and so far, it looks like it's going to outlast me (not hard to do). Curses! Foiled again! Best always. PM

Miller is correct...the FRAUD in government, mostly from LIBERALS IN RED STATES IS ESTIMATED TO EXCEED 1 TRILLION. THERE IS ALSO FRAUD AND FUDGING AND BOGUS COST OVERRUNS AND INCREASED CONTRACT COSTS....in DOD. SO MILLER ISNT WRONG. WE COULD SAVE 2 TRILLION THE AMOUNT OF THE CURRENT DEFICIT ANNUALLY. The problem is CONGRESS. Once they balance the budget and get in the black (or green depending on your color schemes) they SPEND IT.....like paying off a credit card and instead of CLOSING ACCOUNT and cutting it up, they jack up the balance due again with more spending....often with FRAUD IN FOODSTAMPS AND HAND OUTS and that is the worst kind. SOME of our problem is demographics....baby boomers retired and more to come and MORE ON SOCIAL SECURITY not part of the 1% like BILL.....who doesnt NEED social security but prolly takes it. RIGHT BILL?

All this spending, war, fruad, inflation corruption and subsequent slow default is directly related to the dollar not grounded in gold. It's the old and continuous story of the human condition. We want what we want and we want it now! No more money because we didn't have gold to back it, no problem, just print it and move on. So here we are today 54 years post Nixion and 39 trillion in debt and trillions more in unsecured debt. So what could go long??

Mackinac's avatar

Oh brother! Your TDS is mindless. Yes Trump's spending is endless but so is your TDS. I do however like your graph that 2020 spending was double any other year, so thank you for that Democratic spending clarity. What on earth are you trying to accomplish?

Cartero Atómico's avatar

Donnie was president in 2020! The truth is neither party has a drop of fiscal responsibility . The Dims and Repugs are in a race to see who can lead the league in deficit spending.

The end of the Bretton Woods agreement is coming too and that is being orchestrated by....wait for it......Iran, Russia and China. FACT.

"The Viet Cong had no heavy cruisers. It had no navy at all. China, then, was still recovering from the Cultural Revolution; it had no meaningful navy either. And neither did Russia. What were we protecting the Homeland against? Nobody knew."

Bill! I can't believe you forget the domino theory. We had to fight them over there so we didn't have to fight them over here! (Not sure exactly what transmission mechanisn would have allowed for the "over here" part.)

Whatever happened to Mr. Musk's plan to start a third party? I'm thinking a third party might be pretty popular these days.

Cartero Atómico's avatar

Do you also find this advice President Washington's farewell address to be repugnant: "It is our true policy to steer clear of any permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world"?

Looks like years of endless wars have resulted in little for our country besides an unpayable debt that we will leave to future generations.
