in July 2020, the vigilantes woke up. Inflation and interest rates soared. And investors became keenly aware that they could lose money in Treasury bonds as well as make it.
Bill, its an imperfect world for sure, but Pres Trump at least gives us hope for something being done to help America. I for one am behind him 100% and trust that the deficit spending will be slowed. Hard times for sure but it has to start somewhere. Lets give him a chance and not be 100% negative.
And, despite what Mr. Bonner says so definitively, the Finish Line can and WILL be manipulated to the good...
PS - Bill is showing his ass, once again. We have a landslide victory for a candidate that, 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝘆, puts AMERICA FIRST and vows to fully unleash the vast potential of our Energy reserves - yet the sky is definitely falling and Bonner's hair is certainly on fire. Understandable - when the author refuses to acknowledge that the pie can be made to grow. It's all about "Energy" at BPR. Until it's not.
I can get this subjective, non-stop, cherry-picking gloom by watching any msm garbage on the tv I don't have...
Yes brother Starboard! And Bill admittedly understands “Nobody knows the future. Certainly not us!” and he has been sooo good at being wrong about sooo much! But we will continue to enjoy his writing because doing opposite of his theories have been so financially rewarding for me and hopefully others on this site who learn much more from our peers then anything such an entertaining old traveler can offer. Dan on the other hand has much more credibility with his research and knowledge that make a difference and are worth the price we pay for his efforts to help us. I really appreciate most of our fellow readers and get so much more logical information from them, but it really is entertaining reading Bill!
Great post Steve… I heartily agree with, “I really appreciate most of our fellow readers and get so much more logical information from them”!! Thanks to everyone and Happy Veterans Day!!
Mr. StarboardEdge, I recently listened to Jim Rickards, and he said that libertarians believe that free trade and open borders are the way to go. Mr. Rickards said this is very unrealistic, but unfortunately, at least lately, this has been going on a lot in the 21st Century in the U.S. So Bill's essay sounds very libertarian in that it acts like no country is already using tariffs, which many are. So Bill indicates that if Pres. Trump uses tariffs, then suddenly all these countries will use tariffs. But they already do!!! And Mr. Rickards said that he thinks Pres. Trump will many times use the threat of tariffs to persuade other countries to remove theirs or reduce them. But if they don't, he will use them, as he should.
And Bill's essay completely leaves out the slashing of regulations and the move to energy independence. Both will greatly help the U.S. And closing the border can only be good because it will stop the third-world peasant invasion. These peasants will, of course, vote, if God forbid they are ever amnestied, for an endless amount of govt. aid. Look what they have done to CA as middle-class folk flee to red states, leaving the state increasingly rich and poor. While CA has many rich residents; 90% of its public school students are on free or reduced breakfasts and lunches.
Now Bill has pointed out that in Pres. Trump's first term, he didn't do a good job slashing regulations on U.S. businesses. So we can only hope he's much better organized this time, and greatly improves here.
But the debt-for-jobs train has left the station, and Pres. Trump is going to have a very tough time with this. Keep unemployment low and you get higher inflation; keep inflation under control and you raise unemployment. So I don't envy Mr. Trump here. But hopefully he can keep chipping away at this horrible problem.
Bill makes a compelling empirical argument, as he always does. He's not supposed to care about your feelings, being positive, or whether Trump or anyone else is good or bad. He calls it as he sees it based on the overwhelming evidence, history, probabilities, and a lifetime of accumulated knowledge and wisdom. That said, we all hope he's wrong and Trump succeeds.
The fact that Trump was the candidate out of countless better choices, such as people with a long record of supporting the Constitution and free markets, says a lot about the state of our country, the lack of critical-thinking citizens, and the many challenges ahead.
However, the swamp is too entrenched and corrupt to attract a principled candidate who can accomplish far more in the private sector. Generally speaking, only narcissistic sociopaths or masochists would seek out public office.
By the way, we hear the same rhetoric from both sides every election season. Yet things have only gotten worse. Much worse! The only solution is limited government, sound money, free markets, and free people, not the uni-party or some politician or charismatic public figure who stirs up emotions and makes promises he can't keep.
Implementing the Fair Tax and term limits would be a good first step in neutering the deep state and saving the Republic. But the Deep State would never allow that. My aunt worked in the Kennedy White House, and we know how that turned out!
I love your optimism. Ha. You forgot to mention the large amount of natural gas and oil that would be sold to many countries outside the U.S. This could possibly bring in Millions, probably millions. Cutting worthless federal departments. I.e. education and energy to begin with. Education can be handled by the states; it’s wasteful to duplicate it. Also I’m sure many ‘pork’ spending could be removed. We do not need to know about the sex life of worms or what happens when pigs fart. HA.
What politician running for government hasn't failed to honor all their promises. What if he hires good people who believe in making America Great again. And they put their efforts behind getting the country on a long term road to getting the budget balanced, fixing the entitlements by funding them properly, slashing the war budget, improving government, mandates, hiring, budgeting and spending, and creating a path to more growth? Well he just might do that and the gloom and doom would have to wait. Things are changing, take NASA. in the 1968 they spent 4% of the budget. In 2010 they spent $18 billion which was .5% of the budget. That is 1.2 of 1% and an 80% drop in its share of the budget and they are preparing to go to the moon and colonize it. In 2025 NASA will spend 24 billion. which is which is .0035 of the US budget or a 1/3 decrease. How did it do that? I has shifted from cost plus contracts to private company service service contracts which says private investors can build it and NASA will rent the rocket for a flight. The Last NASA operated trip to the space station cost $400 million and NASA now pays only $54 million for each trip to the space station. How can a private business do it so much cheaper? It is because they have a much better system to operate.
This a different world than Bill Bonner and I grew up in. Can some new company deliver mail differently and do it cheaper than the USPS. Can the Social Security system be run cheaper and give greater returns to the retirees. If the S&P can return an average 10.26% return since 1957, why couldn't the Social Security System produce those kinds of returns. Without even seeing the numbers, we know the system would instantly be solvent. These principals can be applied across the board. How about Homeland security and the TSA. They spend $7 Billion on Airport security. What if a company can insure safe travel without searches, scans, and long waiting lines for $1 or $2 billion a year? What if we close 800 military bases around the world. What if we let the military define a weapon with the private sector and have the private company build the weapon for a fixed price, with NO changes. There would be no trillion dollar F35 fiascos. Does the US need new planes, when our very best pilots cannot beat an AI pilot in a dog fight? The world has changed and a third of the budget could be tossed with little loss other than the money the shadow government it raking out of the budget. Does the US government need to be the largest employer in the country and do their employees need to make, with benefits, twice what the average wage earner in this country makes? Last spring only 22% of the employees of the US government had come back to the office since Covid......what does that tell you? It is time to think outside the box and the 2025 Project does that, which is why the Democrats are so scared of it. The 2025 Project is not the answer alone, but it does think outside the box and presents ideas to consider.
“And any changes they make will be revised, corrupted and perverted by Washington’s slimy swamp critters (working hard to get exceptions, exemptions, and special treatments).’
It’s the piece that resonates and is where BB is on page with Trump and others.
The focus of comments are USA biased.
This quote however is an observation that is global.
Swamp critters. Every country, every institution and major agency of public ‘governance’, or of ‘International Betterment’, of whatever political persuasion that comes to mind. EU, UN, WEF, IPCC, international federations everywhere.
This is the plague of vested interests that needs eliminating.
My thoughts are that there are many ways to reduce spending. Many good ideas above but there are endless more. But it certain that if we don't balance the budget and get spending under control or at least head that way with some effort then there is going to be a lot less than some percentage of social security cuts or less medical care. It seems obvious that the cuts need to come from everywhere in the entire scheme. Start with some positive changes like removing a lot of the corruption of big pharma a lot of mainstream doctors believe big Pharma is a net negative and a big positive would be addressing the autism problem. Solving it would be a tremendous success. Then address medical care. If you want to live then you may have dig into one's savings or live with greater health and exercise. Well OK let's just stick it to the youth a wait for the collapse of the dollar. Bill's analysis is real but positive direction is also real. Positive direction should bring tons of money into the US from the destitute rest of the world. Primarily it is current direction that is absurd. I believe Trump will make some positive progress like Milei. It is not impossible it is just not in the current mindset of the deep state.
There is a battle going on to decide the next Leader of the Senate and it is crucial to our success. The "race" is between two war-mongering deep-staters (Cornyn and Thune) and Rick Scott, who has vowed to help Trump enact his mandate. Yes, I know - Rick Scott has some baggage (I'm from FLA), but he's the only person in the mix that will steer us in the direction we need to go now.
PLEASE, if you have time, look at this and call your Senator(s) if they are leaning the wrong way. The link has all the necessary info, including the specific phone numbers.
Yes, this is McConnell’s “The RINO in a China shop”, last act. He has to wreck the place one more time before he goes. First of all he’s disenfranchising four senators who have yet be sworn in by calling an early vote. This is another RINO mess. DJT has to weigh in big.
I am not sure if he has commented yet, but Trump needs to set the tone on this. If Rick Scott is his man, then he is mine. Its time to straighten out the warmongers, deep staters, and RINO's, that the game is over, get on board, or join Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney, and the rest of the scoundrels.
100%! Didn't take long for these swamp creatures to try and derail the public mandate. I think it was Vivek who called out the Republicans as the loser party. This is another perfect example. These bastards are just in it for the payday, they can give two shits about the American public and their mandate. Trump will need to fight them all.
BILL, YOU HAVE DEGRADED FROM DIRT POOR SOUTHERN MARYLAND TOBACCO FARM BOY TO D.C. GEORGETOWN BEAN COUNTER ALL IN A FEW DAYS. NOW YOU ARE TALKING DESPAIR.
EARLY IN LIFE, MANY OF US WERE TAUGHT---AND MANY OF US STILL BELIEVE--- THAT DESSPAIR IS THE ONLY UNFORGIVABLE SIN.
YOU ARE FAILING TO REALIZE THAT A MODERN DAY MIRACLE OCCURRED IN BUTLER, PA BACK IN JULY. DONALD TRUMP RECOGNIZES THAT MIRACLE, AND IS ACTING ACCORDINGLY. FEAR NOT. KEEP THE FAITH.
"ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU. ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY."
EARLIER TODAY, IN MY COMMENT ABOVE, I MADE REFERENCE TO A "MODERN DAY MIRACLE". HERE ARE SOME LINKS WHICH WILL GIVE YOU DONALD TRUMP'S TAKE ON THAT "MODERN DAY MIRACLE" IN HIS OWN WORDS. THE LINKS BELOW LEAD TO CLIPS OF VIDEOS OF DONALD TRUMP.
THE BUTLER, PENNSYLVANIA ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT OCURRED ON JULY 13TH, 2024. THE FIRST CLIP IS FROM AN AUGUST 28TH INTERVIEW WITH DR. PHIL MCGRAW. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS CLIP IS TWO SEPARATE SEGMENT SPLICED TOGETHER. THE QUESTION INTERPOSED, BUT DELETED FROM THIS SPLICED CLIP MOST HAVE BEEN SOMETHING LIKE, "WHAT DO YOU THINK OF ELON MUSK?"
LET US PRAY, THAT DONALD TRUMP WILL INDEED BE THAT WALKING SAINT, THAT INSTRUMENT OF GOD THAT WILL LEAD THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA BACK TO GODLINESS.
"ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL."
Although Trump comes off as a bull in a China shop, I’ve heard that he actually seeks out knowledgeable people and asks intelligent questions. Musk, Kennedy, and Gabbards come to mind. Maybe the second time around he’ll have a better sense on who to trust. Bill, why don’t you reach out to Elon Musk on X and volunteer your perspective. Who knows?
I now remember you writing about your talk with RFK Jr., so you’ve already got a connection to Trump. Your essay was inspiring enough that I remember printing it off and giving a copy to my neighbor. You’re an American. Go for it.
Despite all the best of intentions, the Trump program makes absolutely no sense, as Bill points out. In fact, if carried out, it will result in disaster. Do I see a politically feasible alternative? No. Sorry about that.
Really? Based on what? And exactly how much time have YOU spent researching the specifics?? Don't be afraid - it doesn't take long. And when you're done scanning this, go to YouTube and watch Trump spellout, IN DETAIL, how we can make each of these things happen. If you are not willing to do that, then sit down and quit posting BS...
Agree , please remember that in 2 years , or even one year. I would hope You are better at using technology than Me and have a way to remind Yourself. Regards Don
Milei’s acts took less than 6 months to see results. We shouldn’t have to wait 2 years for Trump, but I get why the Trump fans want to hedge their bets!
America's and Trump's chances are slim but I wouldn't bet against them. Presidential puppets of the rich elites like W. Bush, Obama, and Biden have done alot of damage to America along with the liberal dems and RINO's. The media would burn down America to spite Trump too.
Given that we have a spending problem, not a tax collection issue, there needs to be an reconciliation of spending no longer being sent to the Ukraine, spending that is no longer being spent foolishly on climate change intitiatves, and a reduction in some significant lower levels of federal government employees. If the rate of the annual deficit can be cut or eliminated that is a signicant start compared to the current administration. Confidence in the US government and progress toward reduce the annual deficit can have a positive impact on interest rates and inflation which will help to lower borrowing cost. As stated elsewhere...at least there is a plan to address the deficit. Certaintly this is no easy task that can be resolved in 4 years, but the change is socialistic practices and annual spending beyond our tax revenue will require changes and sacrifices that must be followed through looking ahead for several years. We can only anticipate that the change in political climate will endure so that elected leaders in the future will follow through with the right initiatives. Because the alternative leadership policies and practices certaintly would make our doom to occur much sooner.
Give me a break. The answer to all this is right in front of you youngsters. The government could start buying Crypto currencies with freshly printed dollars, while they are under $100,000 each, and then send every US taxpaying citizen one to hold. Then when Crypto gets to $5,000,000,000 eac they can sell them, pay a 20% tax and everybody is happy. They just have to hope that the electric grid stays "up" when they attempt to sell these imaginary coins stored in the clouds, Mars or Venus, or they may have a minor problem finding an idiot investor to buy them. "Sorry", guys but just couldn't resist having a little fun with a possible future disaster.
Bill, I used to like sharing your comments, but in the last several months, they have been quite frankly, too pessimistic and anti-Republican. I don't agree with your numbers, assumptions, and final outcomes regarding the new Trump term's fiscal policies, and ability to make meaningful improvements.
And, my cynical brother -do you really have an interest in our country? If so, why don't you offer your "expertise" to the Trump organization? "Blah! Blah! Blah! blah!" You go on with those negative vibes, but what solutions do you have proffered? None that I can recall. Get all your minions to research a little harder for you, because I would assume that you personally don't.
You appear to sing your mantra from those elite "Ivory Towers" where so many others sing "do as I say, not as I do" (those recalcitrant Harris supporters).
Blessings from one who does not repeat the same "solutions" and wonder why things stay the same.
Truth. Meanwhile, BB sells us the mirage that he is just one of us regular guys with dirt under his fingernails and sawdust in his hair. He might have both of those - but otherwise he's far removed from the Reality you and I face daily, and I don't mean in just (perhaps) the Financial sense...
Hey Brother how goes it? I think we should stay mindful of the fact that the dirt under Bill's fingernails and the sawdust in his hair are there because he wants them to be and have nothing to do with being minor hazards of a job he needs.
Going well - the grass is slowing down now that we are consistently under 90 everyday but the Brown Patch is showing up early this year. Oh well, whadda ya gonna do beside cut back irrigation, sterilize machines and educate Clients?
And that is admirable about Bill - just one reason why we keep coming back for more.
Sterilizing machines is something nobody in So. Cal. does, and then they wonder why their turf gets contaminated.
All is well here (except for the massive disruption caused by the Formula 1 circus coming into town). We haven't made that trip to your neck of the woods yet. We got news that we're about to be grandparents for the first time so it got waylaid, imagine that lol. Stay well and I will be in touch.
Blah, Blah, Blah! While Bonner makes some good points, he assumes Trump has put himself in a strait jacket and won't adjust as the situation(s) unfolds. He also doesn't seem to account for economic growth. Of course, if Trump is rigid about what he does and doesn't adjust if deficits do grow, then we are in trouble. But there is no way of knowing that now, so it is useless to speculate if you are just going to focus on the negatives and don't look at the positives of a Trump presidency.
Give the new admin a chance. Check in one year from now. I truly believe you will be amazed at what will get done. America will be on the way of being number one in the world, again. We have had many (democrats and republicans) ruin our way of life and liberty. AP
Do you mean all the TRUMPED up charges??? Where they charged felonies for misdemeanors just because he's TRUMP. I thought you would be living in Russia, N. Korea, or China by now.. They seem to fit your political beliefs better.. The good news for you is that God still loves communists!!
Bill, its an imperfect world for sure, but Pres Trump at least gives us hope for something being done to help America. I for one am behind him 100% and trust that the deficit spending will be slowed. Hard times for sure but it has to start somewhere. Lets give him a chance and not be 100% negative.

Exactly.
The odds are indeed long.
They were long when David went up against Goliath.
We live in a time when human effort alone will not prevail. I hope Trump and his team understand that.

"the Trump program makes absolutely no sense"

Let’s come back to this in one or two years from now.
Agree , please remember that in 2 years , or even one year. I would hope You are better at using technology than Me and have a way to remind Yourself. Regards Don
Perhaps he's going to borrow Milei's chain saw.
Afuero!!!!!!
Correctomundo, amigo
Hiya Dave -
Going well - the grass is slowing down now that we are consistently under 90 everyday but the Brown Patch is showing up early this year. Oh well, whadda ya gonna do beside cut back irrigation, sterilize machines and educate Clients?
And that is admirable about Bill - just one reason why we keep coming back for more.
I hope all is well with you and yours, brother...
Congrats to Grandma and Grandpa!!
JPG:: Sorry, I can’t find any positives in Trump's presidency . But, there is always Hope…maybe.
Dorothy
Give the new admin a chance. Check in one year from now. I truly believe you will be amazed at what will get done. America will be on the way of being number one in the world, again. We have had many (democrats and republicans) ruin our way of life and liberty. AP
AP: Hope you are right. It’s hard to believe with all of Trump’s convictions and history that he’s the right person to lead us.
Remember our little bet, Dot??
Every one of those convictions will eventually be tossed, and I look forward to serving you a plate of crow.
Do you mean all the TRUMPED up charges??? Where they charged felonies for misdemeanors just because he's TRUMP. I thought you would be living in Russia, N. Korea, or China by now.. They seem to fit your political beliefs better.. The good news for you is that God still loves communists!!
And just exactly what would a positive look like to you, Dot??
Choosing Tom Homan as his Border Czar already looks like a positive to me.
Invector: Well, we will just have to wait and see.
And as usual---a non-answer from you. No surprise.
What about money coming into the US, Bill? Seems that's quite certain from the world.
