"Are the tomato sellers greedier than the sellers of fighter planes? Why is a 20% increase in food costs more egregious than a 1,000% increase in ‘defense’ costs?"

Easy answer. Because the voters are very aware of the food costs and utterly unaware of the defense costs (because they don't think they pay the defense costs.)

"Progressivism is the fiction that government coercion can produce better results than voluntary cooperation among people. A key implied premise of progressivism is that government action, government expenditure of resources, is cost-free. Because the proposition is absurd on its face, it is never stated explicitly. It is nevertheless implied in virtually every progressive idea or policy. Progressives have no theory of costs. If they did, progressivism as an idea would disintegrate due to the progressive’s inability to explain why the benefits of their programs are worth the costs. This they can never do because cost and benefit are subjective as Rothbard has explained better than anyone else has. There is no rational, logical or scientific way to prove that $1000 taken from the taxpayer by force is worth $1000 added to the Mayor’s Summer Youth Program or any other government program.

Rather, the progressive simply ignores costs and pretends that resources are not scarce but unlimited."

Democratic strategy at this point is: if they think their constituents don't like an issue they flip to their opponents view and claim loudly, through main stream media, that their opponents are lying, endlessly.

They just spew nonsense till everyone is confused or literally can't take the nonsense and tune out. It doesn't get votes but apparently they hope its at least a 50/50 chance the voters will choose them.

The strategy is sensible given the absurdity of their real position.

But as long as the stock market keeps rising and doesn't fall off the cliff they have the tremendously powerful force of their believers getting "rich". It is obvious the consortium of big tech, big pharma and the liability protection of both, main stream media, censorship, lawfare, plandemics and uniform training via the WEF, military industrial complex, school system, college professors, deep state, FED, silicon valley, government / politicians etc. AND FINALLY BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY: the AI concoction and the AI stock bubble ( MAG 7) and the fact that this consortium, conspiracy, cabal or whatever you want to call it is making the consortium rich they AIN'T GONNA VOTE for freedom of speech, private property rights, free markets, integrity and honesty and true wealth and health of the nation i.e. capitalism. Excellent analysis, Mr. Mackinac. I like to say that if one combines what the “Three Bills” have pointed out, one has a pretty good idea where the country is right now. Bill O’Reilly points out that as long as middle-class Americans (i.e., mostly suburbanites) have their jobs, their schools are decent, and their neighborhoods are safe, they seem very pacified and complacent. And Bill Hemmer (Fox News Election Analyst) points out, via his analysis, that suburbanites decide almost all important elections because rural and urban voters cancel each other out. Then finally Bill Bonner points out why suburbanites are pacified and complacent: the Fed and the federal govt. have created massive debt to prop them up via trillions of dollars created out of thin air, the slashing of interest rates, and trillions of debt spending. This complacency, unfortunately, is very difficult to overcome by freedom-loving folk.

It does appear, thank goodness, that the Trump org/GOP are starting to hammer Harris/Walz with excellent campaign ads about their radical-left proposals and flip-flopping. I hope it scares enough voters in six or seven critical states to return Pres. Trump to the WH. He is not perfect by any means, but I believe he will be much better than the radical leftists who control Harris/Walz. And good that Bill (Bonner) is finally willing to at least partly blame the voters for America’s 21st Century decline.

Ms Harris was not in command. Biden was commander. Harris was a spectator. Vice presidents are allowed to do some merely Inconsequential acts at the pleasure of the president. Sort of like a first lady. But the really important things are the responsibility a privilege of the President.

Biden was in power and present and directed the spending of trillions of dollars. His vice president was not authorized to make policy or push legislation through Congress. The 2trillion package was supposed to rehabilitate our nation's infrastructure. Yeah. Like we are seeing a lot of new bridges and water treatment plants. Like rivers that end in the desert, that 2trillion just evaporated.

That money was not earned, it was borrowed. It was credit. That is the root cause of inflation. Spending money that is created out of thin air. It was never free money. It is being paid back through inflation. The lawmakers who voted for irrational spending received the thanks of their constituencies in the form of votes to win elections.

We the people are not calling for their heads because we do not understand the connections from spending to inflation. What we see now is that the price of food and a lot of other necessities are inflating faster than our income.

Ms. Harris cannot stop inflation and probably does not really want to try to stop it. Government does not now nor ever has wanted to stop spending. Inflation can be stopped by doing what Argentina did. Stop the spending! But that means all the swamp things will not get to bribe for votes (votes from spending). So the cycle goes on until the whole damned thing crashes.

Like that old T.V. ad where the mechanic says, You can pay me now or you can pay me later. No politician dares or wants to cause the pain needed to stop inflation. They (we) all want an endless pain free ride-- which ends in a terrible crash. No one wants to stop spending now to avoid the catastrophe later.

Everyone loves the rush of spending but no one likes the let down.

It takes a very strong will to stop something that gives pleasure here and now.

Even knowing that it will end in tears.

In the blog-o-sphere, also in various other substackings in addition to BPR’s; trolls make assertions which are diametrically the opposite of facts.

Ergo, here is a counterpoint to “Dems asked for money to fix the problem but Congress turned them down at Trumps instruction”. And btw, POTUS 45 never was elected to a seat in Congress before or after his Presidency and had returned to civilian life.

President Joe Biden, during his tenure as the 46th President of the United States, signed several executive orders aimed at reversing many of the immigration and border security policies that were implemented by former President Donald Trump. Below is a detailed list of these executive orders, organized by their Executive Order (EO) number.

1. EO 13985 - Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government

Date Signed: January 20, 2021

This order directed federal agencies to assess their policies and programs to promote equity for all individuals, including immigrants. It aimed to address systemic barriers faced by underserved communities.

2. EO 13988 - Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation

Date Signed: January 20, 2021

While primarily focused on discrimination issues, this order also impacted immigration policies related to LGBTQ+ individuals seeking asylum based on persecution due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.

3. EO 14010 - Creating a Comprehensive Regional Framework to Address the Causes of Migration

Date Signed: February 2, 2021

This order established a strategy for addressing the root causes of migration from Central America and emphasized collaboration with regional partners.

4. EO 14011 - Rebuilding and Enhancing Programs to Resettle Refugees and Planning for the Impact of Climate Change on Migration

Date Signed: February 4, 2021

This executive order aimed at restoring refugee admissions and enhancing support for resettlement programs while considering climate change’s impact on migration patterns.

5. EO 14012 - Restoring Faith in Our Legal Immigration Systems and Strengthening Integration and Inclusion Efforts for New Americans

Date Signed: February 2, 2021

This order sought to reverse many Trump-era policies that made it more difficult for immigrants to obtain legal status in the U.S., focusing on integration efforts.

6. EO 14013 - Establishing a Task Force on New Americans

Date Signed: February 2, 2021

This executive order created a task force aimed at promoting immigrant integration into American society.

7. EO 14014 - Revising Enforcement Policies for Individuals Encountered at the Southern Border

Date Signed: February 2, 2021

This order directed a review of enforcement policies that disproportionately affected vulnerable populations seeking asylum.

8. EO 14015 - Ensuring Safe and Orderly Processing of Asylum Seekers at Ports of Entry

Date Signed: February 2, 2021

The focus was on ensuring that asylum seekers could safely present themselves at ports of entry without fear of immediate expulsion.

These executive orders reflect President Biden’s commitment to reforming immigration policy in ways to undo many restrictive measures put in place during Trump’s administration.

Overview of POTUS #46’s (EO) 14010

Executive Order (EO) 14010, titled “Creating a Comprehensive Regional Framework to Address the Causes of Migration,” was signed by President Joe Biden on February 2, 2021. This executive order aims to establish a comprehensive approach to address the root causes of migration from Central America, particularly focusing on the Northern Triangle countries: Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. The order emphasizes collaboration with regional partners and stakeholders to create sustainable solutions that address economic instability, violence, and corruption in these countries.

Role of Vice President Kamala Harris

In relation to EO 14010, Vice President Kamala Harris was indeed assigned a significant role in leading the U.S. government’s efforts to address the challenges associated with migration from Central America. Specifically, she was tasked with spearheading diplomatic initiatives aimed at fostering cooperation with these nations to tackle the underlying issues driving migration. This includes engaging with leaders from these countries and working on strategies that promote economic development and enhance security.

Key Responsibilities Under EO 14010

▫️Diplomatic Engagement: VP Harris’s role involves direct engagement with Central American leaders to discuss strategies for improving conditions that lead people to migrate.

▫️Development Initiatives: The executive order outlines plans for investment in programs that can help improve economic opportunities in the region.

▫️Collaboration with NGOs and International Organizations: The initiative encourages partnerships with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and international bodies to implement effective programs addressing migration causes.

▫️Addressing Root Causes: The focus is not merely on border security but rather on understanding and mitigating factors such as poverty, violence, and lack of education that compel individuals to leave their home countries.

▫️Reporting Progress: The order also mandates regular updates on progress made towards achieving these goals. ‼️How frequent & WTH are VPOTUS’ reports⁉️

⭐️author edit as of 28 Aug 2024 @ 18:51 MT read it-and-weep⭐️ U.S. White House FACT SHEET: Update on the U.S. Strategy for Addressing the Root Causes of Migration in Central America dated March 2024

In summary, Vice President Kamala Harris has been assigned a leadership role under EO 14010 as part of a broader strategy by the Biden administration to comprehensively address the causes of migration from Central America through diplomatic engagement and development initiatives.

Conclusion

Thus, it is accurate to state that under EO 14010 - Creating a Comprehensive Regional Framework to Address the Causes of Migration, VPOTUS Kamala Harris was indeed assigned to lead this agenda.

Congressional Research Service (CRS) Reports of Failures:

▫️Continued High Levels of Migration: Despite efforts under EO 14010, there has been no significant reduction in the number of migrants attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, indicating challenges in effectively addressing migration flows.

▫️Implementation Challenges: Many initiatives outlined in EO 14010 faced bureaucratic hurdles and delays in implementation, limiting their effectiveness and impact on the ground.

▫️Political Opposition: The executive order encountered significant political resistance from various stakeholders, including lawmakers who opposed changes to immigration policy, which hindered progress on key initiatives.

▫️Resource Allocation Issues: There were difficulties in securing adequate funding and resources necessary to implement programs aimed at addressing root causes of migration effectively.

▫️Limited Impact on Regional Stability: While there were efforts to address root causes in Central America, critics argue that these measures have not yet resulted in substantial improvements in regional stability or economic conditions.

▫️Inconsistent Messaging on Immigration Policy: Mixed signals from different branches of government regarding immigration policy created confusion among migrants about U.S. policies and procedures, potentially affecting their decisions to migrate.

▫️Challenges with Asylum System Overhaul: Efforts to overhaul the asylum system faced setbacks due to ongoing legal challenges and operational constraints within immigration courts that continued to affect processing times negatively.

Is there a positive side to the deflation in Chinese housing prices? Here in the US I wonder how young couples can afford to start a family with the exorbitant costs of buying a house. Houses were much more affordable when we purchased our first one in 1981 even though interest rates were very high. Now it seems young couples are in a perpetual rat race with both having to work just to survive, taking kids to day care, picking them up after work, etc.

If only a summary expense report were given to every tax payer in every nation in the world. Something that read along these lines, it might get people asking the right questions. Like WTF?

Your $10,000 in federal taxes this past year were spent as follows:

$1,900.16 on Social Security (supporting older people in their retirement ages)

$1,513.69 on Defense (F-35 jets, aircraft carriers, maintaining the world’s 2nd largest nuclear arsenal, 180 bases around the world, over 1 million active personnel, etc)

$1,513.69 on Medicare (federal health insurance program to help elderly with medical costs)

$1,143.32 on Medicaid (joint federal and state program that helps cover medical costs for some people with limited income and resources)

$1,095.01 on other "Mandatory" programs - (School lunch programs, unemployment insurance, tax credits, supplemental security income, temporary assistance for needy families, federal employee RETIREMENT benefits - currently 2.1 million civilian employees, 1.3 million military, 500,000 postal workders, and millions more as contractors, Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, agriculture subsidies, and Student loans (forgiveable)).

$869.57 on "Other" Discretionary Programs (Science and Tech including NASA, EPA, Foreign Aid, Public Health (including CDC and NIH), Law enforcement (FBI, NSA, DEA, HS, etc), Housing assistance, energy programs, National Parks and public lands, education and training, transportation infrastructure).

$837.36 Interest on the National Debt (you and your children's children's children will likely have to keep paying this debt that YOUR government chose to run up handing out lots of money to their "friends." That debt currently sits at $35,000,000,000,000.00 - that' right - 35 followed by 12 zeros)

$563.61 on Veteran's Benefits (to care of the people who fought in wars that the US didn't need to fight - Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iraq (again), Africa, Central America, Middle East)

$193.24 on Education (schools, colleges, universities, etc)

$193.24 on Health (CDC, NIH, substance abuse services, HRSA, IHS, Public Health and prevention programs, biomedical R+D)

$177.13 on Transportation (fixing highways, airports, ports and subsidizing trains, and public transportation)

While it's very popular to rail about exorbitant defense costs, please note that the assertion of a fixed profit margin applied against cost overruns is incorrect. Even on highly criticized "cost plus" contracts, profit for the contractor is limited to a "fixed fee," an "incentive fee" or an "award fee." In each case, the "profit" disappears (and the margin shrinks) when contract cost thresholds are hit. Now one can certainly argue that we shouldn't be spending this much to develop the world's most capable fighter (after the F-22), but please leave the "gouging" argument behind. It doesn't "fly"

Expand full comment

Not always true if the contractor can blame the government for the cost overrun! For example, a government supplied component is defective or late in delivery, a government procedure is technically incorrect or cannot be performed without revision, or the government decides to change equipment specifications in midstream. In these cases, the contractor demands a contract change for more money, including an increase in profit. It is not their fault, so they should be paid more , including a fixed fee increase, since the government is causing them to do more work. So guess what, the contractor always works hard to find a way to blame the government for every cost overrun! Inflating the cost of the overrun as much as they think they can get away with! At least, that was the way it worked when I was involved in nuclear aircraft carrier construction. Maybe fighter aircraft work is different, but I doubt it.
