Modern economies are extremely complicated and extremely vulnerable to centralized failure. When the Federal Reserve makes the wrong move, it can crash the whole financial system.
When the lights go out in Omaha, it ain’t just the power grid, it’s the last flicker of trust in the global economic magic show.
Enter Warren “The Oracle” Buffett, a man so clairvoyant he basically hosted a dry-run of COVID like it was a TED Talk for plagues. Four months before the world shut down, Warren’s crew ran a pandemic-economic-collapse simulation, not because they’re evil masterminds, but because they’re prepared evil masterminds. And now, like a magician exiting the stage before the rabbit bites someone’s throat, Buffett bows out just before the greatest market implosion since 1929. Except this one won’t be romanticized by sepia-toned documentaries, it’ll be livestreamed from your iPhone at 3% battery during a blackout in Tulsa.
So yes, Spain and Portugal just “practiced” their power outages, like actors rehearsing a tragedy where the audience also dies. The crash coming will make 1929 look like someone losing ten bucks at Chuck E. Cheese. This isn’t a recession, it’s a rapture for billionaires. Buckle up, buttercup, if the next six months don’t turn your 401k into an obituary, consider yourself one of the lucky ones still able to toast marshmallows over a burning Tesla.
Yes those with the superior connections were of course alerted on the "Event201" (Oct 2019) which was an exact trial of what started to play out four months later. So it was easy to position oneself (for the ones "in the big club") like mr. Gates who bought Biontech shares in September 2019, only to sell them with 2000 % profit. Ah, not to forget, a week later he went on TV Screens all over the world and expressed his disappointment with the effectiveness of these "Vaccines". Funny, such coincidences..... sometimes.
Attendees were amongst others: General GAO, the chinese head of the WUHAN Institute of Virology where so many funds had been sent to to do exactly the GOF research (aka bioweapon development) that was banned during Obama´s term.
John Hopkins Unniversity was present with its nice COV-Dashboard becoming so prominent a bit later, the moderation of the event done by a CIA-Official, Mr. Gates, Officials of WHO / UN and even from WEF, several military top shots, the deputy General manager of RKI another prominent Institute for Deseases in GER.
A lot of negative things CAN and will and do happen. Choose to enjoy your life and your family; it's short enough on this earth. Praise God and quit worrying about tomorrow. Today is a blessing.
Don't count on a private island to save you either! In 1996 I bought a 9 acre one on the BC coast of Canada through my private corporation, and at that time I could build anything I wanted with the exception of a sewage system that discharged into the harbour - something I wouldn't have done anyway as I expected to eat the fish, crabs, and clams in the harbour water, and didn't want to keep recycling them.
As a single 76-year-old retiree, alI wanted to put up was a small cottage of about 450 square feet, with a solar power supply, a propane toilet that incinerates waste so there is no discharge into the harbour, an atmospheric water generator so I don't need to drill a well, and a small wood stove fueled by the 9 acres of trees on the island. Yesterday I got around to taking my first step toward putting up the cottage, but found local governing bodies had in 2019 made it illegal for me to build anything bigger than a 100 square foot shed by myself, and by law I would be required to hire a licensed contractor even though I've built small houses in the distant past that are still standing in good condition today.
I can't even install a temporary structure or put a trailer on the land without applying for a permit (at considerable trouble and expense). Furthermore, when I wanted to inquire about how to navigate the morass of rules, regulations, and requirements, I was informed by the official website that their staff were not available to the public, and that the only way to get answers was to make an application - at the cost of a $500 fee that was non-refundable if the application was refused.
I had previously contacted several contractors about building the small cottage, but was found none interested in taking on such a small job, which left me with only the option of building myself or never building. Although the legislation provides one exemption that allows corporate owners to build their own structures, it is only available to family farm corporations unless the registrar makes allowance for special circumstances - and those have in the past been denied to others in similar circumstances.
At the moment it seems that I can hold onto a piece of property that is costing me a substantial sum in property tax every year but that cannot be used for anything, to achieve immortality in hopes that in some future century I'll be allowed to do something with the land, or to sell it for whatever pittance someone else might pay for a property they can't do anything with - or that somehow Robespierre and his friend Madame Guillotine can be resurrected and remove the heads of everyone in the administrative state we are increasingly afflicted by.
He’s in Canada, I don’t think they claim We the People but we supposedly do, and are not much better off! Our government’s have both been captured by the globalists and the Israelis. It’s a disgusting situation. And Mexico being run by a Jewish princess! Explain to me how that happens? Seriously.
Please Al...Read " The Art of the Deal" by our President. The most important deal maker is paying off the right people. Once that deal is made, anything is possible:) And don't forget to invite me to your new 20,000sqft cottage when your deal comes through:)
That's why we have to decentralize the electric grid. Place the new "mini" nuclear plants everywhere it is safe to do so (away from earthquake fault zones, flooding, tsunami areas, etc. as you would do for any powerplant). Maybe someday we will have a power source small enough to power each and every residence or apartment complex, etc.
John, Unfortunately your "maybe someday" will not become a reality until after "we the
majority" have truly suffered the realities of not having a "decentralized electric grid". The average American citizen is as concerned about their electric grid as our congress is about balance budget. Time is not on our side.
You are probably correct, but the average American citizen does not necessarily determine innovation. It's the visionaries that come up with the products that most people cannot even imagine. However, the electric grid is highly regulated, which in itself, is an impediment to change and innovation. If the Democrats get back in control - forgetaboutit.
Mr. Gallien, So true. I wonder what the odds are of a hostile country exploding a nuclear bomb at a high altitude above the U.S., known as an EMP attack? This could wipe out large portions of the electric grid, wiping out the U.S. economy, and leading to starvation among many of those in major U.S. cities. I guess U.S. nuclear subs nuking the offending country into the stone age renders this highly unlikely. But if the Democrats were to ever get control of the WH again, you have to wonder if, after an EMP attack on the U.S., a retaliatory strike would even be ordered by a Democrat POTUS.
Yeah, it is not too difficult to build your own solar setup. I did a couple of years ago when the acres I bought didn't have the grid and too costly to get it. Need a bit of room for the panels is all. I haven't had a power bill for 2 years now. Cost was about $12k.
I’m all in on nukes, but without a means of everything running together. We may all begin dieting together instead of putting it off, like so many other things. Base loading, redundancy, and correcting weaknesses are always secondary it seems.
Having experienced hurricane Katrina at ground zero (Waveland.MS) even the best preparations were washed away. As it was weeks before electricity was restored we were faced with our early ancestors living conditions - albeit with MRE's and bottled water provided by the National Guard. So even if you have weeks of supplies/fuel/ammo - unless you can take it with you in a hurry you may still be faced with daunting problems. Maybe Bill will have room at the ranch! LOL
Thank you, Bill, for an essay that didn’t go political. Your point is accurate and, more so, significant. The US grid is archaic, under sized for our needs, and vulnerable. The system was built decades ago and more has been spent on shoring up its weaknesses than increasing its generating capacity. Nuclear was effectively banned in the 60s-70s, which is only now coming back into favor. Small nuclear reactors is an exciting technology and very worthwhile, but I fear the “greenies” will wake up from their slumber and begin to push against it once it begins to appear in their backyards. The grid’s capacity was too small before the advent of AI demands. With AI demands, electric vehicles’ demands, and the climate crazies’ concern about CO2, there simply is no way the grid of 2025 can keep up. Look at California for a preview of the US’s power supply deficiencies arriving any day now. Just as important is the risk we face from deliberate sabotage of the system. There have been dozens of transmission and distribution transformers ruined by sabotage over the past few years [something that is rarely reported in the media] mainly by shooting holes in the oil cooling tanks and allowing the transformer to overheat to destruction. The large capacity transformer replacements are not to be found setting on a shelf somewhere awaiting deployment. The are usually special-order devices [many times from China!] and can take a year or more to receive. The grid can cover a few of these at any one time, but a concerted terrorist attack over the country, especially specific transformers in the transmission grid, would shut down much of America’s power needs. Of course, I haven’t mentioned computer hacks, but that sabotage can be applied to ALL of America’s critical infrastructure. Why am I going on about something I can little control? I do so because America is not the bastion of strength we all think it is. If we lose our grid over a wide swath of America, we will lose the civilization we cherish within a few weeks [like 3-4]. Lead will become the most precious metal. Population deaths will skyrocket beyond everyone’s worst nightmares. A good book to read to get a fictional account of such an event is “One Second After,” which describes America after an EMP attack that impacted the entire continental area. Sorry for the doom and gloom, but this is one aspect of our lives that we need to concern ourselves with.
I second the recommendation of “One Second After”. The whole 3 book series is very well worth the read. Yes it’s fiction, but it’s some of the most realistic fiction I’ve ever read. Talk about make you wake up and do what you can to prepare for life without electricity.
I don’t and obviously you don’t, Mike. But there are millions of our brothers and sisters that take that power coming from the outlet for granted. Take it away from more than a week or two and they are starving and VERY angry. If (some say when) it happens, America’s descent into anarchy will be ugly and violent. God help us all including those of us who think we’re prepared.
We've all known how vulnerable our electric grids are, here and everywhere. Yet, the Trump derangement syndrome is alive and well, the Biden deniers are continuing with their mantra, and the Obama years which could have brought the country together. Time and effort has been misplaced and squandered for at least 16 years if not more, instead of taking care of what is most important, our human livelihood as we know it; however, we continue to worship money and control through greed and fear.
The most crucial condition for modern grids is maintaining the 50 Hertz. 0,2 below or above already enters the danger zone.
Many people still aren´t aware that consumed electricity has to be produced/delivered in the moment it´s required. Quick responding storage isn´t existing in any measurable amount, so this is still true.
As this is a delicate task (to maintain the 50 H) hundreds and thousands of engineers, software systems, links etc. are working on it.
If any event occurs that needs fixing by said engineers e.g. to shut down consumers or to add power from somewhere - this is called a "REDISPATCH".
2010, when I began to take interest in that technical sector I looked up the statistics of the grid controlling authority in GER and it said there were 10 redispatches through the year. TEN.
Seven years later that figure had increased to 2.000. TWOTHOUSAND:
Well, nowadays we´re at - hold your breath:
6.658 redispatches between Jan 1. 2025 and yesterday. So für whole 2025 this will add up to somewhere close to 20.000. In each case deliberate action, often by humans, is required. Which means, it´s just a statistical question when - not if - there will be a major breakdown.
You are absolutely correct about maintaining the 50 Hz level. I liken it to a fiat currency pegged to the $. Loose the peg & it starts to wobble. The biggest threat comes from solar flares causing magnetic interference in our atmosphere. It's something beyond our control.
Edison wanted to make the grid D C which would have negated any frequency issues, however A C was chosen as it was easier to change the voltage up or down as required.
It is obvious now that D C would have been a better choice with modular battery storage
to prevent complete failure of the system.
And guess what modular battery systems are being built everywhere now.
Just not enough at present to prevent power outages from time to time
The current power systems are a "dogs dinner" from an engineering perspective!

While I had hoped for a 20 year reprieve before the state came after my now completely exposed wealth this only bought me 10 years, but did for time being save my retirement savings from total destruction. Since covid the state of CA has been trying to legislate me out of even the residential real estate business as they have done to every one of my other businesses over 45 years. Unfortunately, it now seems a private Island is the best option. There I can rely on God's grace. Away from man's consistent boondoggles, greed, and short-sighted stupidity.
Let's just pray that we don't get to experience a large scale EMP attack in the US and it causes a wide scale electricity outage for weeks, months or longer. The result is inevitable. Hell on earth.
Unfortunately, the coming wars aren't going to be anything like the last ones. And, frankly, nuclear weapons will soon become obsolete. Why blow everything up and spread radiation everywhere when there are much better weapons that just erase the people. The World is getting uglier and uglier. And, instead of trying to develop a common community, the World is splitting apart. It is just continuing human nature but in a world with horrific ways to destroy mankind. Enjoy life while you can.
I know of an island you can buy for a lot less than $350 billion. (Last heard, you could have it for just about $200 million.) It also comes with it's own power center, boats, greenhouse, and livestock. 85 acres of paradise. Then the rest can be put into gold, goats, cattle and land to run them on. Yeeha!
How long did it take for the power to come back on? Trying to figure if I have enough cash on hand for a similar event. I'm guessing that the majority of Puerto Rico net worth was digital (bank accounts) and could be accessed after, but not sure how long.

Should have included Bitcoin in poll!
But what do you do with your Bitcoin when the power goes out? When the power went out in Puerto Rico after a few years back cash was king.
How long did it take for the power to come back on? Trying to figure if I have enough cash on hand for a similar event. I'm guessing that the majority of Puerto Rico net worth was digital (bank accounts) and could be accessed after, but not sure how long.
And Congress =)
