What kills empires? Overwhelmingly, it's the abuse of citizenship status. Governments extend/bestow "citizenship" or facsimile thereof, as a means of expanding the tax base. Soon, there is no exclusivity of the benefit of the citizenship, and it becomes meaningless. We have experienced this same phenomenon in this "it can't happen here" place we call a "country" over the past 50 years. As societies get more and more prosperous and affluent, they get too "good" to do their own dirty work, and they also stop reproducing and birthrates fall. With falling birthrates come falling government revenues. Government is at the root of all problems of organized societies. Best always. PM
