Some of Mr. Trump’s tariffs are so peculiar, it’s not clear where they fit into the constitutional structure. They are used as sanctions, punishments, bargaining chips and foreign policy weapons.
Thanks again, Bill. You are back to your completely unbiased enlightments. Obviously, we should be back to open borders and let in "anyone" so they can get a fair hearing. While they are waiting for a "fair hearing", we can give them free phones, free medical care. and free accomodations. Additionally, we should show them far more leniency than a US citizen would receive for committing the same crime. Why?? I'm sure you can explain it to us in your future writings.
Because Bill points out the outlandish things Trump and his team are doing doesn’t mean he’s endorsing the other side. Bonner has always been neutral. His job is to shine a light on the spectacle, no matter which party is running it.
The sad part is how many people can’t see that through their own party filter. Trump isn’t going to save anyone but himself — just as Harris and company won’t either. If anything, Trump will crown himself by dragging the U.S. into another forever war and sidelining elections. The Supreme Court rulings are only the opening act.
And this isn’t the first time America has fallen for a strongman who bends the law to his will. Andrew Jackson pulled the same moves almost 200 years ago. I wrote about those echoes here:
If that’s the solution you believe will fix the massive debt, the spiraling deficits, and the coming reset in equity markets, well… you’ll get what you deserve. Good luck.
I don't believe anything that any politician can do (no matter which side he's from) can save us from our debt. I voted for Trump because the other side's offer was "truly scary". My viewpoint has not changed. My favorite was Eisenhower and until the other side offers someone of his character, I'll vote for the lesser of two evils. If you voted for Harris, what can I say? Lots of luck.
Trump has always done whatever he wants — if saving America was on his list, he’d have done it years ago. Instead, he punted.
Action Plan #1
“We would simply announce that we have no further interest in the matter, cut off all foreign aid, and bring back all US troops now dawdling in far-flung, godforsaken outposts.”
— Bill Bonner
For the record, I’m Canadian, just trying to make sense of our own sideshow in my spare time, while watching your three-ring circus from afar.
It’s telling that Bill flags the looming insolvency of the U.S. Social Security Trust Fund. The structure all but guarantees it — a pay-as-you-go system that can only park its reserves in low-yield U.S. Treasuries. No equity, no real assets, no compounding.
Contrast that with Canada’s model. When Canada reformed the CPP in the 1990s, they created the CPPIB: an independent investment board with a global mandate. Today it owns infrastructure, real estate, private equity, and more. Instead of draining, the fund compounds.
One model looks like a patient building a nest egg. The other, like a patient bleeding out.
One has to be impressed with the Chrétien / Martin government in the early 90s. They extended the life of the CPP. How long is undetermined.
I seem to remember Martin was invited to Washington to explain his plan. The U.S. bureaucrats listen and ignored his advice. The arrogant Washington crowd felt they could learn nothing from the lesser lights above the northern border.
If you remove the top 5% from the economy we are already in a severe recession. All the numbers are fake and to the extent we have a functioning economy it is being held up by all the wealth and spending at the very top of the wealth pyramid, which is highly inverted. There are few jobs available for young people, even fewer when you count living wage jobs. The deliberate destruction of the middle class is well down the road.
So Trump wrote the "Art Of The Deal". The thesis is that deal making is an art form. Art is wisdom, experience, and practical knowledge. So on the face of it Bill, you do not understand it. Given your background in journalism and the publishing business, and an author of history and economics as well as the "Art"of "dot connecting", it is not surprising you do not understand the "Art Of The Deal". Moreover, you believe Trump had usurped the authority of Congress. Congress does nothing it doesn't get paid for by special interests. So expecting them to represent the benefit of the people is like expecting one, who is lost, and wandering in the desert, not to drink water when presented to them. Also, and emblematic of your distain for the Trump and his administration, is your questioning of his recent targeting of the "drug boat" transporting drugs from Venezuela to the US. You make comments such as "alleged" drugs and "alleged" drug traffickers. I can only conclude that you have better intelligence than the Dept of War. Do you? And then the is the serial situation where the courts overrule Trump's Excutive Orders as evidence that he is trashing the constitution. My view, and the view of many who read your daily missives, is that the left-liberal courts will stop at nothing to void Trump's presidency regardless of the constitution. You need proof?
Almost all of their rulings have been overturned by higher courts. Bill you really should understand where most of your readers are coming from.
"The art of the Deal" was actually written by Tony Schwartz. He later expressed deep regret over his role, calling it the “greatest regret of his life” and describing the money he earned from it as “blood money”.
Tony Schwartz, the ghostwriter of The Art of the Deal, has referred to the money he earned from the book as “blood money” and has taken steps to atone for his role in shaping Donald Trump's public image. Since the start of Trump’s presidency, Schwartz has donated around $375,000 of his royalties to causes he believes Trump would oppose—such as environmental protection, immigration advocacy, and other progressive initiatives.
He’s described these donations as a form of penance, saying he’s “thrilled” to use money generated by the book to support efforts that counteract Trump’s policies and values. Schwartz has been openly critical of his involvement, even stating that he knew it was a mistake while he was writing the book.
It’s a rare case of a ghostwriter not just regretting a project, but actively trying to undo its impact.
Thanks for the comment. I gave Bongo Bill's column a quick scan today. He is no longer worth my time, but I find many of the comments worthwhile. Bongo is truly deranged with his half-baked, biased, criticisms of Trump.
Hey, is that Mr. Bonner or Charlton freakin Heston?
Tariffs, tariffs, tariffs!
You’re selling snake oil Donnie, but you forgot to bring the snake. Congress says tax, you say punishment, the rest of us say “bend over and pay more for your underwear, ya dumbass!”
Shopping on Amazon?
Used to be a thousand kinds of paper clips, hell, you could clip your will, your divorce, and your dog license with separate models. Now you get three options, all flimsier than Don Jr.’s alibi. Bare bones minimum merchandise for a bare bones empire.
THAT’S THE FREE MARKET, BABY!
You’ve got ICE strolling up like an old-timey drunk sheriff in LA, “Hey Boy, that mustache means you’re Mexican, detain him!”
And good o’l Trump is strutting around calling himself a pillar of unification. A pillar? That ain’t a pillar, that’s a gold spray-painted turd propped up on cinder blocks.
Rosie O’Donnell, deported to Ireland? C’mon Buddy, she can’t even get deported from The View, and they’re out there revoking citizenships like they’re tearing tickets at a Run for the Roses!
You don’t fix jobs with tariffs, you fix jobs by bringing them back! The only thing this Administration is bringing back is dictatorship cosplay and the worst history channel reruns of WWII atrocities! If stupidity was taxable, Donnie, the deficit would’ve been gone yesterday. Trump’s deporting folks is like a scarecrow doing a background check. Funny, but the cornfield’s still full of shit.
America’s Constitution is being used like a bar napkin, and the drunk scribbling on it thinks Sharpies are amendments.
“You can’t normally just pick up people at a Home Depot and ship them off”.
Find a better lawyer to give you advice before you write stuff you know zilch about.
If you arrive in the U.S. illegally and do not have 1. TPS or 2. an open asylum claim, you have no legal rights and can be immediately arrested and removed.
Oh. You do have one right. And that is not to get the crap kicked out of you as you are escorted back from whence you came.
Bill, Trumps tariffs are mostly International Extortion. I would like to hear that word used more often, which makes it illegal on its face. Thanks for your excellent research.
Hey, Bill, PLEASE stick to the game plan, i.e., I thought BPR was an investment newsletter, not a private opinion platform to disseminate your globalist opinions and endless criticism of DJT. Again, while DJT and JD aren't perfect by any means, they are 1000 percent better than anyone the Dems/globalists could have put in office. The Dems under Biden (in violation of our laws) opened our border to the world. Please repeat: The economic value/benefit of illegal aliens does not trump the rule of law in America. In America, we are governed by the rule of law. You're legally trained so I'm sure you understand the concept. If you don't like our laws, no problem, change them. Otherwise and until then our laws must be enforced notwithstanding your personal preferences and opinions. Suggestion: Why don't you write a post about how upset the NWO crowd is with DJT and his efforts to make America great again. Yes, I understand it wouldn't be an investment post but it would be an interesting read and it would allow you to express your beliefs/opinions about the NWO and what America needs to do going forward to be part of the global community.
Bill and Rosie, both decamped to Ireland. Talk about two peas in a pod. With “citizens” like that, who needs enemies? Maybe Bonnie Bill is next on President Trumps agenda. Seems like he’s being “swamped” by the Trump quicksand on a quickening basis. Couldn’t happen to a nicer, brighter, sunnier “patriot”.
Does your concept of “patriotism” require surrender to government policies even when government has been taken over by criminals?
Our government is now funding, munitioning, and providing political cover for Israel’s genocide of Palestine and its attacks on neighboring countries. To be “patriots” must we Americans be willing accomplices in those crimes?
I don’t think so. I believe our loyalty must be to the constitution.
Source? No, you don't have any?? How about these, LIAR. Who is the bullshitter? Now tell us how all the FAT "refugees" are starving - more lies from a LYING demographic. Rut Row - Israel just took out your two BILLIONAIRE hamas "leaders." Cry harder.......
Like I said utter zionist bullshit. Armchair warriors - prob spending your whole miserable life desperately trying to find a website that supports your delusions - not realising these same websites are bought and paid for prostitutes of the zionist colony .
yes indeed, your Trump bashing continues. Must be nice to have made your hundreds of millions when the going was good, no political involvement (from you anyway) and the world was all peaches and roses.
Now that you are a multimillionaire, tell the rest of us what is f’ed up with the system. Constantly.
You and the ole LSO should commisterate together, as you are both neocons full of feces.
In your myopic world view Horizontal Harris should’ve won. Or better yet, the cadaver in chief, this way Hunter can keep on living off the tax payer as well. I do find it quite ironic that you never once criticized those ass hats. Well, at least you dropped the name calling and now reference him as Mr. Trump. Wonder what it would take for you to refer to him by his elected title, you know, the one over 75mm people voted for????
In any event, if the price of access to Tom’s investment advise is putting up with your nonsensical bullshit, so be it. Tom your kicking ass and taking names…keep at it :-), my portfolio is nearing six digits on your advise alone.

Of course politicians can fix it. The question is whether they want to.
1. Spend less than they take in.
2. Cut stupid expenditures.
3. Go back to Rule #1.
Just like any sane, profitable business.
Bill Bonner laid it out perfectly in Clowns and Jokers. https://www.bonnerprivateresearch.com/p/clowns-and-jokers

There's a lawsuit waiting to happen. Sure you might get paid but, it might not buy much.

Mr. Bonner conflating killing with murder.
Sure, the boat with 4 outboard motors running full speed across the ocean was merely a quaint family outing.
Killing is part of life.
Without partaking, you will be killed.
Mosquito’s, bacteria, rabid dogs, bad guys all need to be killed.
It’s called survival.
-
And who do you allow into your house?
Opening the door for the multitudes of unknowns, committing cultural suicide.
Media celebrates deluding occidental culture.
Now the door shut, Mr. Bonner tells us to mind our manners and obey the very rules that were broken.

Mr. Bonner waiving a white flag seems content outsourcing has done its damage and there is nothing we can do about it.
Except continue dogging MAGA....
Iceberg - evolved people share Bill’s disappointment that Trump murdered people boating in the Caribbean.
...doing nothing (as in the past 30 years) is not an "evolved" people.
Sending a message is.

With 4 outboard (300hp?) Evinrudes full throttle, they were not just some "people" out boating in the Caribbean sun...

We can pretend we know better...
but like Tyson said... everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.

You can label it murder, I consider it defense.
You are delusional.

perhaps shipping volume is down due to frontrunning the tarriffs earlier in the year?
At high enough observation frequencies everything goes up and down… The overall trend in container volume appears to be still upwards since the 2009 tanking. But who knows, could also turn out to be death throes over the last few years when looking back in 2030.

Will be he who has stalled
The battle outside ragin'
