To keep the coffers full the ancient Egyptian governments sanctioned the looting of past Pharos tombs. Today instead of stealing from the past we loot from the future generations.

David, Oh, no. Those people north of Richmond steal from everybody - not just the future. Inflation isn't just a tax on the future but also a tax on those who have worked all their lives to have a "secure" retirement counting on social security and pensions/retirement plans. Neither of those have kept pace with inflation and will continue to fall further and further behind. They are stealing from everybody and anybody they can - alive, dead, or not born yet. Lying, cheating, and stealing - and they are delusional enough to feel we owe it to them.

Lo and Behold - Mr. Bill has found a new group of "experts" to continue gaslighting everyone by citing their "studies." I was curious since they got a shout out two days in a row (and counting.) So, who is this Peterson Foundation? You might be unsurprised to learn it is founded and funded by none other than billionaire Peter G. Peterson (RIP), co-founder of the Blackstone Group. Yep - the same Blackstone in cahoots with several other mega-financial "services" groups that are estimated to own 80% of the Stock Market, are currently buying up residential property and farmland, pushing the WEF, supporting "vaccines", promoting incessant war (it's great for their "business" don'tchaknow), Digital ID's and on and on. These people are the globalist deep state who believe they are untouchable and are no friend of Freedom, America or Donald Trump - regardless of how much credence a beloved "author and commentator" gives to their "research." Humbug - it's not like they would ever use their vast Power to manipulate conditions to their continued advantage and to the continued detriment of Society-at-large, amIright?

I have little doubt that Mr. Bonner has palled around with their ilk for many years, likely going all the way back to the days when he romped around with retired CIA "leaders." We see you Bill, but decide to read your daily musings anyway.

Alternatively, they seem to have some VERY good policies on their website and they talk a great game. I dunno, call me a skeptic I guess. I've seen too much deception in the last 30 years to take ANYTHING at face value. Sad - but it is what it is...

Have you confused the Blackstone Group with BlackRock, the gigantic firm with more than ten trillion dollars under management? If so, then you should not paint Peter Peterson of Blackstone with the same brush that Larry Fink, the uber-globalist leader of BlackRock, deserves to be painted.

Perhaps Bill Bonner's drawing here on the Peterson Foundation is not as stinky as you think it to be.

Hi Mr. Eade,

No, I am aware they are two separate entities with similar names. Though "smaller" than Blackrock in asset amounts "managed", Blackstone is in the same line of work with a very similar philosophy re. how they invest and what they invest in, as well as policies they encourage/promote. I'm not trashing them at all - just following a version of the old adage "follow the money." BB has felt it necessary to cite them twice in a row and I thought that was a bit unusual. I took just a surface look into what they do and am reporting back for BPR subscribers to draw their own conclusions - nothing more, nothing less.

For example, this is just one area that Blackstone is in lockstep with the aims of the Davos/WEF crowd:

Then Bill writes this drivel: "He’s [Trump is] also committed to extending his 2017 tax cuts – with a projected cost to the Treasury of $5.2 trillion over the next ten years."

Gee, I thought my money was mine and cutting taxes just allows me to keep more of it? Portraying that as a "cost to the Treasury" flips the script and makes all money the Treasury's and what they don't take from us in taxes is them being generous and magnanimous.

Hi Alty -

I'm at war with no one - I am at war with a set of beliefs masquerading as a "political system" that has killed millions, spread misery and failed terribly all throughout History. People that are as lost as many Americans are today will not be convinced beyond their conditioning. They are in a cult.

Criticism and Opposing Viewpoints are a great thing! They make most normal people think and further test their existing beliefs, then adjust those beliefs when Facts and Evidence warrant such a change. So strike 2, brother.

I refuse to coddle or even entertain the moronic, lethal "ldeals" and/or "Policies" of today's communist left/dimocrat party. They are playing hardball and for keeps. They have proven that I can expect no mercy and no quarter from them in this battle, so I will extend them neither.

All the Devils from 2008 Are Back at the Megabanks: Leverage, Off-Balance-Sheet Debt, Over $192 Trillion in Derivatives, Shaky Capital Levels

Wall Street On Parade has posted a new item by Pam Martens and Russ Martens: August 20, 2024

Teaser: You might be asking yourself the very valid question as to why the Dodd-Frank financial reform legislation of 2010, that followed the Wall Street financial quake of 2008, didn’t correct the derivatives gambling that played a central role in crashing the U.S. financial system. For why the threat of derivatives never actually went away, see our report:

I disagree with Bill's assessment of Trump's proposal to place tariffs on Chinese goods. The purpose of a tariff on a product is to discourage someone from buying that product. In his dispatch he states, "[Trump] proposes to make the public pay more for its imported products." No one is forcing the public to pay more for any product. If the price is too high, the public will not buy it, and may purchase an alternative, cheaper product instead. That is the purpose of the tariff. Bill further questions, "[H]ow does forcing people to buy inferior products at higher prices help them?" The answer to the question is partially in the question. I do believe that Chinese goods are inferior so why buy them in the first place? And no one is forcing anyone to buy anything. The higher prices are meant to discourage the purchase. That is what tariffs do.

One of my heroes, the second in line for indispensable man, instructor to the first, was Alexander Hamilton. His purpose for tariffs was to establish US manufacturing.

Today, the purpose, I observe, is to resurrect it.

I am sure there are other measures that would be useful.

The US is like California or NY, people leave because of mismanagement and high taxes. The rabble come in droves for handouts.

I suppose, if we resurrected Hamilton’s sound money, that would be enough.

There is a litany of mistakes. If we were again that bounteous harsh environment that rewarded personal thrift and industry and distributed nothing to the slacker, we would have a prosperous thriving society.

We have all, for many years, always chosen the false promises and values.

The cost is due.

But……. In a much smaller market as may be relevant,As a kid, I had a holiday job in a small town dept. store. (Menswear). Locally made (Australia) woollen men’s cardigans were 75% of my labourer fathers weekly wages through protection by tariffs. Other examples in other brands and shoes.

Imported goods, though rarer , but with World quality brands were more expensive again because of levied tarrifs.

Eventual removal of tarrifs saw all those loval brands disappear or go off shore.

Imported quality brands reduced in price….. tarrif removal.

Textiles and clothing plus shoes are much, much more affordable…..

Depends how you want to look at it.

Unemployment is 4% in Oz.

There are some made in China products that are world class particularly their optics industry. It may not be a necessity it does question their ability to compete, especially at much lower prices. And believe me when I state world class, its high quality and no its not out sourced its in house. Id be concerned not in the design or its processes so much as its final price. If you understand what Im getting at. Whats the average tax in America today? Or North America for that matter. The West has been misled on a grotesque scale.
