I don't know why anyone is concerend about the SPR. The only reason the U. S. ever had one is because they were busy depleting Persian & Arabian oil reserves so the U. S. could sit on its own SPR. It's about time the U. S. stood on its own 2 feet for awhile.

The chart of oil reserves looks pretty hopeful to me. Maybe I'm misreading it.
In 1982 the total reserves, public and private, were less than 600 ('000 barrels).
In 2000 about 700.
Today about 800.
As I recall, in 1982 it took substantially more gas to drive the average car 100 miles than today.
So our reserves look like we are way ahead now, no?
