Great read and spot on. As a professional pilot, I can imagine the incredible opportunities available if we could return to 1950’s regulations. The cost of aircraft would be a third of what it is now. The innovation in energy production would bring down fuel costs and operating costs for everyone. Growth would be explosive. I know the pessimists out there would point out the safety of aircraft certification standards and the increased safety of air traffic management and control, but what would free market technologies look like as an alternative? Wouldn’t we have technology that allowed us to see other aircraft through the clouds and fog (think FLIR and our latest ADS-B) without the aid of a huge bureaucratic federal control system? For those that think Federal control is so necessary, let’s think about the FDA that receives 60% of it funding from fees from the very pharmaceutical companies that it’s supposed to regulate. We’ve seen the end result in the latest debacle with the COVID vaccines that were approved and said to be “safe and effective” and have proven to be almost the polar opposite. As far as FAA aircraft certification standards, look no further than the FAA’s Boeing 737 MAX debacle. The FAA basically deferred all decisions to the manufacturer. I believe the natural progression from government guidance to outright corruption with large corporations, has nullified most government institutions to the point of not just ineffectiveness but now causing real harm to the people it was originally supposed to protect.

I would like to clarify the term, "regulation." As originally defined, it would mean, "to make regular." But the word was hijacked by, among others, a Supreme Court that decided that the "proper" use of the term from the United States Constitution should suddenly mean that Congress gets to determine what "regular is, and any rule to obtain that result was suddenly the act of making something regular.

I would proper that we refer to anything that these government types call a "regulation" is really a "restriction." These rules restrict us from acting regularly and change our behavior adopt to these new restrictions, which require us to lose time by interpreting what we are supposed to do to act regular, or require us to acknowledge compliance by filling in details on a government form.

I may be picking at nits as I continue my hunt for the snark, but I can't allow myself to play the rules by the game the government creates around me. And as for what I mean by "snark": You may have to read your Lewis Carroll.

Great piece Joel, as usual. The "Common Good" equals "The Lowest Common Denominator".

Good job, spot on, however, you did not complete the FINISH--all your points will lead to

implosion and a restart.

Great article Joel👍. Governments need their subjects to need them. Anarchists and conspiracy theorists are some of their favorite Bogeymen. Repeat after me; “Who would build the roads😂”. Decentralization is coming whether they like it or not. I’m praying for proactive secession rather than the USSR version.

Joel smashed this Sunday Sesh right out the stadium. Only to be topped with the most satisfying end to the footie itself. I was about to pour another Malbec then but spied the preening tyrant macron busily inserting himself centre stage to show the hoards what it is to be a great leader. How wonderful to watch this backfire most spectacularly, with barely a single player giving him the time of day. I take inspiration and hereon double down on my own efforts to entirely ignore the world’s restrictionist tyrant class whilst offering to them my own version of net-zero: no respect. It’s great to see some footballers appear to be of the same mind. Cheers to one and all, except for the regulators and rulers.

I am not sure John Lennon wrote "Imagine" in a postive light. It was actually released in 1971, same year the World Economic Forum was officially founded. Much of what the song preaches sound like their core values. "Imagine no possessions" may well just be another mantra of owning nothing and being happy. Also, "Imagine no religion"? Perhaps yes, if the human soul can be removed and some technological augmentation added?

The downfall of anarchy is that anarchist regions would soon be conquered by statist regions.

I Fear There is No Escape.

My Family recently bought a house and 48 acres, upon the passing of the Matron and her spouse, which 40 years prior had been carved from the 1000 acre family cattle farm.

I sought to deed 2 acres to my son for his family to build their home.

After six months of back and forth with county officials, $8500 in survey costs, we finally got permission to apply for a Building Permit.

All this, to do something that in the not too distant past would have required no permissions whatsoever.

And Amazingly, I Sold the Big House in the City to Embrace This As 'The Country Life'.

There's no need to image a world without a government. The original no government model was from God. Towrah does not mean law as most religious believe. Hebrew terms are defined by their verbal root words. The verbal root of Towrah is Yarah which in turn means 'to teach' hence the noun is teaching, instructions, guidance, direction.

Imagine a system wherein all disputes are settled by referencing God's eternal and unchanging instructions? All required would be a group of men who were literate, and able to follow directions these were called Lowy (Levites) the term means 'uniter'.

The system would have remain unchanged forever but, alas the people would be required to desire peace, and prosperity, they'd need to work and be productive.

All was well until a few folks got in their head the gentile nations on their borders ruled by great kings were more appealing. Read both 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel (they were originally one book) Israel goes off the rails exercising free will to choose to be ruled by a king. The people chose a handsome brut of a warrior not a good ruler. Saul did not disappoint fulfilling every detail of Yahowah's warning of what being ruled by a king would bring. Constant war, taxation, sons drafted in the military, the most beautiful of their daughters slaving to the king, confiscation of land, a total cessation of liberty and free will.

Eventually even God tired of Saul, causing his demise at the hands of his enemies, actually suicide to escape capture.

The second king was 8 years old, the youngest of 8 sons, a shepherd, musician. The type of man who God put up as a model king. Was he a perfect human no, but he followed God's instructions the people observed all that was written in the Towrah. David or more accurately Dowd was the king of all kings over Israel, he brought peace routing all enemies. His son the wise Solomon actually turned out to be no very. wise, introducing pagan gods which in turn started Israel's slide to the bottom.

Government is more of a curse than a blessing, because it attracts weak men, and these always sell out the people for their own gain. There's no fixing Argentina, no fixing America. We are too far gone. Kennedy suggested ending the Federal Reserve and you see where that got him.

The US government has no real need tax anyone as long as the Fed will print money and fill the treasury the people will pay the inflation tax as they have been doing for the last 90 years.

Nixon decoupled the money supply from its steering mechanism. removing any hope of gaining control of the run away train. We're headed into a blind curve at the edge of a cliff. The best we can do is get a seat near the back of the train and hope the cars upfront take up most of the shock.

When the smoke clears the conservatives or liberals or both will be blamed, and free will will be a distant memory. The terrorists will be hung, the young PTA mom's will be first and right down the line. The French Revolution will resemble a Christmas tea party in comparison to the first 6 months after the smoke clears.

In the immortal words of Warren Zevon; "Bring lawyers, guns and money, Dad get me out of this..."
