No problem . You just sell a fraction of your gold to get a steady income. One can do this if you use bullion storage companies to store your gold. It works!
But you miss one thing. We need a comparison with what the returns would have been just leaving that $100 in a diversified stock account all those years.
Sometimes its better to focus on a certain sector of the market. Bill's bet was oil this year, and how right he is! I beleive the market will continue to melt, and when thoroughly thawed in a couple of years, or when we get these current idiots out of the White House, think Metaverse....
I think the stock market has the ability to ruin ones mind. A lot of attention and much chasing. I know someone personally who has used up a lot of space in their head over many years and is now left... with about nothing. Bummer to witness I must say
I sure won't make those kind of returns at my age, but I sure wouldn't mind making a 2-5X increase in the next few years. Think it is time to buy some more gold!!
Overall, this looks good but I question comparing a stock average that fluctuates on a daily basis to an asset whose price was frozen at $35 per ounce for about 40 years and whose ownership was restricted for those 40 years.
I don't see dividends accounted for. What if you need income while you wait?

The most elegant solutions are often the simplest
I see Bill as a patient and experienced brother who pats me on the shoulder and says, "I'll be alright if you just don't do anything stupid."

How does this idea fit with the trade of the decade? Namely owning energy stocks…
