IF Argentina is such a hellhole and an example of how NOT to run a country, why are you both in Argentina?

Excellent question, JO. Thanks. I might write a whole essay about this in an upcoming Sunday Edition as it's a query I hear a lot.

In short, I find there's a non-trivial difference between being "in" a place and being "of" a place. I prefer to keep the two separate. (I'm "of" Australia, as you might have caught from my accent.) Here in Argentina, I'm enough of an outsider that it takes very little effort on my part to bypass all that I dislike about most cultures - local politics, celebrity gossip, the sports pages, "keeping up with the Juan's" and so forth.

Instead, I can focus on the aspects of living here that I do enjoy, like the family-based communities, general disregard for petty rules, year round good weather, relatively low cost of living, etcetera.

Thanks, I look forward to an essay on that. I'm particularly interested in two things.

a) How a basket case country can have a relatively low cost of living - isn't that what we all would think is a sign of good Governance?

b) and discovering IF, in your opinion, that is the case for any country once a Government gets to be too incompetent.

As a UK subscriber to Southbank Investment Research, I always read Rob's pieces - I guess I am in tune with his thinking. I always enjoy the rare chance to hear from you Joel and particularly from Bill Bonner. You guys provide calm and clarity in a world where we are encouraged to focus on celebrities rather than reality!
