The huge cash infusion of the Covid years has mostly played itself out. The stimulus did not produce higher output or greater wealth. It just increased prices — particularly real estate prices.
I ate breakfast out, our anniversary; it cost $40.00. 20 years ago, it would have been $8.00 in the same chain.
I could make the same thing, each day, for the same cost, for ten days.
Even McDonald’s is expensive. Their sales are down even with a 100% increase and they know the cause.
20 years ago 40% of the food consumed was from restaurants; it’s probably more today. Many people will be laid off, a big change in consumption habits.
The only responsibility of government should be: an equitable justice system and a stable currency. That allows people to create prosperity. Today, government fails and on top of that they regulate. They have created failure, on a giant scale.
With a stable currency, there would be no cost increases; you would only see increases in productivity and efficiency.
The whole game would be more honest, increased sales would have meaning other than government mismanagement. Growth would be growth, not a fictitious lie.
I'd add a lethal military to your very good list of two, because you know, that's what our Constitution says government is supposed to do. To Bill's question about why we can't win a war, it's simple: Because we don't want to.
Since WW2 the U.S. has been in war after war for no reason except to provide riches to the elites (including people in Congress and Government). And, today, there are many reasons suggesting America isn't capable of winning a "real" war. It is truly ugly. So, we are again suggesting how to "fix" the system. Really? Fix the system. The only way this system gets fixed is when it explodes and explode it will.
I can't disagree with you about any of that. None of us make it out of here alive, but I seriously fear for the way of life my 33 year old twin sons and my yet to be born grandchildren are going to have thanks to what this government has wrought. It certainly won't be the one my wife and I enjoyed.
“ Many elections are marked by reports of dead people voting, but a dead person being elected is far less common.” Sorry Bill, but America has now realized that the democrat deception of having dead people vote for brain dead people is very common in America. Unfortunately, the zombies have turned this once beautiful, prosperous superpower into the third world shithole only the dead could desire. Shame on the conservatives for giving the power of the living to the dead🧟♂️🧟♀️🤔
Unfortunately, the so-called conservatives are much worse than that. How many "conservatives" do you know that support "public" (i.e., government-controlled) education. It was only a matter of time before the progressives gradually took over. Ayn Rand wrote and warned about this in the '60s and '70s. The progressives had a game plan - educate the children in socialist nihilist doctrine. The conservatives had nothing. That's why Rand was so critical of them. Finally, they are waking up. But are they calling for a phase-out of government-controlled schools? Or a phase-out of Social Security and Medicare? The latter would take a while since so many people have paid into it, but a plan needs to be formed or the roof will cave in anyway. They are not, for the most part. They are defending these programs.
Sorry John, but I’m not talking about RINOs, but true American Conservatives. God Family Country Americans who worship the three above over everything else. Men and women who constantly do the right thing and work hard to create and keep a family. People who actually enlisted in service to our nation, not to take advantage of the very common fraud we now see In our military, but because they love America. Good folk who want nothing more than to live, work and worship in peace and freedom, other than those who take as much as their slave masters In government offer. Givers not takers. Those users who call themselves conservatives and live like liberals are very obvious, don’t believe a word they spew, just follow their actions, and they will lead you right to the DC Swamp….
I would argue, not against what you say, but add that the NEA and all their state-led sister organizations, backed by union thuggery are ruining not just the education process, but are ruining communities. My small N. Idaho community has been divided by their leftist ideology...it is a full-on battle for our pocket books and the minds of their children. "We need $6,000,000 to keep the grade school open next year..." For 45 students...with horrible performance records relative to their peers...This came about because they lost their second levy vote in as many years. Think they get the message? Nope. This $600,000 is a one year band aid while they try and incorporate our little region to create a taxing authority!
SL: Dead people voting? Yes, that was checked and rechecked and the total number was less than 10. Sorry to disappoint you. Whatever you watch, I'm sure, don't want you to know the real facts, which I know you and some of your friends will deny. Have a nice day!
Mr Bonner, excellent question today - “If we’re so rich, why can’t we pay our own way... rather than passing the bill for current programs onto future generations?”
Is there a struggle going on between government and central banksters? My fellow BPR readers, 90 minutes of one’s time will be amply rewarded by tuning in here - https://youtu.be/iio_ESDGc8U “Exposing the Deep Economic State” with Mel Mattison… have a pencil & paper handy. While we all complain about the price of life, the Richmen North of Richmond get Rcher! And we proles vote deadmen into office. To all the proles who believe this makes sense, please don't forget to vote!
Real estate prices are supposed to be a factor of supply and demand. That said I know some RE brokers who are happy to suggest prices higher than market to 1. Get a listing, and 2. Get a higher commission. Landlords don't say no to higher and higher rent and/or sale prices. And then the same government of which you speak increases taxes by 20-50% annually. Guess those high lease rates/sale prices are needed after all.
Bill writes: "Why does it seem to average citizens that things are getting worse... while politicians insist that we are better off than ever? "
Sir Aldous Huxley wrote a book (1932) about that, and how "they", meaning the government, were able to get away with it. Do you doubt fascism? Look at the arrangement between government and
Big Pharma: there's your "soma" right there. Best always. PM
I think red lobster already closed all restaurants. They were toast when Darden sold them. A restaurant like red lobster went the same way steak and ale went. Old, old concept and structure. New restaurants are being designed for carry out. The independent owners have been beaten up. Covid buried them. I hope to live long enough for the “fly thru”😊
Who would have "thunk" that the Government does not know how to run an economy. I say this sarcastically . Tell Me how a person on Government can see what I need and want? I only know what I need and want. This is the win-win world where I control My money .
Interesting Don. Unfortunately you are looking at it from the wrong perspective. The Government is running the economy just fine for them. For us - not so fine. The elites and the higher ups in Government, Big Pharm, Military/Industrial Complex are just doing swimmingly. Best economy ever - for them. So when you said "I only know what I need and want" is the same thing those elites are saying. They only know what they want and need. And, it isn't caring at all about us proles.
Bill, truth be told as this essay has stated, the working class pays for everything, and now because of their pride, they won't leave an unpaid restaurant bill, so they stay home. For the economists and our leaders, and Wallstreet, put that into their bottom line, and than bullshit us its a great economy.

Please add a secure border to government obligation.

I think a lot of people think the Covid Response was business as usual. Just another Stimulus Program.
It was more than that!
It was potentially catastrophic. And the Feds are finding out that it is not repairable.
The Choice was Depression or Impression!
We now have Impression.
Rising prices, lower production.
It can be fixed fortunately.
But not with conventional means.
The world is much better each time a dead congressman is reelected. Imagine if deciders in DC were to be incapable of doing anymore for the people.
