In a small democracy, people can see for themselves what is worthwhile and what is not. They see the mayor in a fancy new car with a fancy new girlfriend and they ask questions.

"The Israelis appear to be attempting to liquidate the Palestinian presence within what they consider their ‘homeland." Is this not the intention of the Palestinians by supporting Hamas?

Not exactly sure where you are coming from, but based on your past posts it is more than likely I would agree with your sentiment after understanding and thinking on it.
It does suck that I kind of put God Almighty in a "box" of sorts. Granted it's a big box - but no where near big enough to hold Him or even describe Him...
Which is the "legitimation" for Israeli Government to apply those atrocities. No doubt the intention of Hamas leaders and their handlers are those ("From the river to the sea...") what comes into equation is the extreme overweight of Israel´s war power.
In a 1977 interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw, Zahir Muhsein, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee, made a controversial statement. He said, "The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity"
So the elimination of Israel, like the elimination of the Christian Crusader kingdoms of the middle ages, is the objective. "From the River to the Sea." Support this objective, if you like, but don't imagine that you're taking a humanitarian stance by backing the equivalent of parricides who are demanding mercy because now they are orphans.
Yes, C Eti outs him or herself as illiterate. Or as a "neg" bot, bad AI that criticizes without content or a command of English. See boorish response to FVM below. What an ass. I had hoped such idiots wouldn't be here. Aren't the WSJ and New York Times for C Eti's type?
You aren't really literate, are you, C Eti? You employ words like "waah," a lack of appropriate capitalization, double exclamation points, and.......you have no intelligible point. Please go away. This board is for those capable of reading, writing, and thinking.
Hahaha ... Isn'treal has been Hamas' second biggest supporter. What of the PLA in the West Bank ... Prrhaps you can enlighten everyonr as to what 'selections', have been truly honest in a multiple decades?
Please justify your repeated anti-Israel rhetoric, Bill. The Koran says that land is the Israelites' "homeland." Here is some relevant history: "With the establishment of the British Mandate of Palestine after World War I, the first British census of Palestine in 1922 enumerated a total population of about 750,000, of which 78 percent were Muslim, 11 percent Jewish and 10 percent Christian (Table 1). Nearly 25 years later, before the United Nations’ partition of the Mandate for Palestine, in 1947, the population had grown to nearly 1.8 million, with 60 percent Muslim, 31 percent Jewish and 8 percent Christian." So the trend was already towards the Jews in 1948, and are there not enough Muslim countries in the world, Bill? Maybe you should read Douglas Murray's book The Strange Death of Europe. Since you love Europe so much, as do I, please inform yourself of its current, culture-ending patterns. Do explain why the Jews, 6 million of whom were killed during WW2, don't have a right to call "Judea" their land, and please stop misusing quotation marks. Your editor keeps putting single quotation marks where they should be double. You are Old School, so please use facts instead of snide remarks and bad punctuation. --Heather Chase
Good luck with that, Heather. BB has made his position crystal clear numerous times - and he's on the side of Evil and terrorism/terrorist supporters in this situation...
Everything makes perfect sense if you just change your premise; Government serves itself not you. The Statist votes on the basis of rhetoric and symbolism rather than using their mind. We live in a society chock full of Statists. If the Statists would just use their God given logic and deductive reasoning abilities they'd quickly come to the realization that Government is not their friend. Once a society turns its back on their Government its game over for Politicos in charge. No one should be surprised by a Politicos actions, after all they're just simple miscreants. The Tribalists enabling these miscreants are the real problem and the reason America is circling the drain. Nothing will change for the better until the Tribalists ditch the rhetoric and symbolism and embrace common sense.
Yes Craig, common sense is not so common anymore. When a people are indoctrinated from birth, and fed lies and propaganda, what little sense remaining is based on falsehoods. Hence the new America…
Nor in any of their heads. They are bought and paid. Going against the grain is not career enhancing. So the lies and such continue until.........and until is close at hand.

Again you write a little B.S. while I agree with you on the extreme power of the U.S. military industrial complex, I disagree with you on the Israel-Hamas war. Israel does not want to annihilate the Palestenians. Terrorist group Hamas is the target. Innocent Palestenians get killed because they are being used as human shields. Also, many Palestenians voted for the leadership of Hamas. You constantly put the blame on Israel. Remember, Israel was attacked and massacred on October 7, 2023. Stop the B.S. and report more accurately. AP
"Also, many Palestenians voted for the leadership of Hamas."
"Many." "Many?" "How many??"
And the "election" of Hamas (winning 90%+ of the "vote") by the "palestinian people" was back in 2006. Anybody wonder how all those "poor innocents" feel about Hamas today? Hmmmmm --

Cry harder, Israel haters...
PS - I feel the need to add an edit: I don't believe that Israel has been a friend to America in EVERY situation, nor are they always a friend to our Freedoms. Having said that - I further believe they don't need our foreign "aid" $$ and are completely justified in completely removing the threats to their very existence that are all around them now, and have always been all around them. October 7th should have been a wake-up call to the world what the islamic "faith" is truly all about. Just take a cursory look at what is happening in Europe after allowing an invasion of millions that worship the Moon "god". They are NOT compatible with Western Society, Freedom, Liberty or any Quality of Life.
But sadly, we still have people like BB and others here who refuse to acknowledge REALITY because they somehow feel that would injure their self-perception of what kind of a person they really are...
I would not argue that idea to some extent. Similar to our current s-hole, the "government" does NOT represent the will or best interest of its citizens in either Country. An "enemy" is always required to when controlling populations - if you don't have a real one, Tyranny dictates that the scumbags "in charge" make one up or prod some group into the role. However, individuals were brutalized, tortured and/or murdered by other individuals on October 07.
Personal Responsibility for the perpetrators and those who support/enable them must come into the equation at some point IMO, Petra...
What a mess. There will never be a peaceful resolution and both sides position hardens by the day. A two-state solution is impossible, as is the possibility that an Israel that includes the - fast growing - populations of the West Bank and Gaza can ever be a parliamentary democracy, because Jews will be a minority in no time flat So the two options left open to Israel are, in my opinion, the elimination, by exodus, or extermination, by genocide, of all the Palestinians. While the Palestinians are probably relying on continued Arab pressure eventually making Israel a place that only extremists want to belong in. Emigration data goes some way to indicating that this scenario is already happening, although numbers are hard to verify. I'm in neither camp btw, having spent time on a Kibbutz as a (very) young man, having read every one of Leon Uris's books, been an admirer of Moshe Dyan, Golda Meir and later on Yitzhak Rabin, but now feel extremely uneasy about the current direction they seem to be heading. I personally think Netanyahu is a very dangerous man, but my best friend of 55 years, thinks he's God's gift to mankind - go figure

"What a mess."
I don't have the answer or even pretend to know what's best. All I am sure of is that it SUCKS to kill Women and Children (regardless of their "ideology"), but it also sucks trying to live in Peace with neighbors who absolutely will never let that happen...
In a 1977 interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw, Zahir Muhsein, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee, made a controversial statement. AGAIN BILL: Your Blatant Jew-Hatred glibly emerges with your snide comment "to liquidate the Palestinian presence", and literally is disingenuous. The fighting is intended to eliminate Hamas terrorists who have killed innocent women and babies.
Are you really so incapable of nuance? That is effectively the goal of the Israeli state and the intended result of the terrorist attack by Hamas.
The millionaire/billionaire Hamas leadership in Qatar don't give a damn about the Palestinian people, what they care about is a long term undermining of the Israeli position as "the good guys", a goal which the Israelis are enabling.
The current situation is a vendetta with spiralling violence and retribution where neither side can hope to win, unless winning is defined as survival.
What is wisdom? Great question. Its roots are in the fear of God. Proverbs explains how to gain wisdom. It was prominent in the founders public square but, sadly, absent from the modern public square.
Some of us work our entire lives to garner a bit of wisdom. It can’t be found in sound bites, short Wikipedia searches, or disengagement. (Or, in elected politicians apparently.)
And it depends on what sites you use to look up history. Fiction becomes fact very easily if you look in the wrong place. And censorship comes into play also.
Time is our most precious commodity bar none. The U.S. government systematically steals our time via taxation and inflation. The U.S. government then uses our stolen time to fund NATO, Ukraine, Israel, and many other misadventures. We had no say; just told to obey. Is it any wonder why more and more Americans would love to see NATO, Ukraine, and Israel just go away. If I had a say, they'd all get nothing and promptly shown the door. Meanwhile, I have to jump back on the hamster wheel so I can continue to get fleeced :-)
Bill, once again you are spot-on. You continually hit the nail squarely on its head. Obviously, reading the comments, there are oh so many without a lick of common sense. Head in the sand and completely paralyzed to a viewpoint. Sad really.............please keep up the good work!
"...his mind is washed clean everyday." I wonder about that. There are those who still think, and ferret out information on their own and debunk what is heard on the Liberal, complicit press; for, the "press" is on the continued mission to tell those minds of mush WHAT to think, not HOW. So the weak minions who are starved from the thinking process amble on, being spoon fed by those who do what is necessary to follow their wicked agenda, no matter how convoluted and twisted it might be to foster our country becoming weaker and more intolerant of the truth, God's truth. So, what is really in the minds which are "washed"? Not much, I might surmise.
Bill, As you observe the many ways the elites exploit us, I find missing from your calculus the avaricious and competitive disposition all humans possess.
Likely a survival instinct. Even in this age of relative plenty for many, these two elements of our human disposition forever metastasize into war.
Someone, whether individual, tribe or country, always wants what others possess.
Examples today abound: Putin wanting land occupied by Ukraine; Palestinians wanting land occupied by Israelis; China wanting land it asserts have always been Chinese, etc.
Our history is one of continuous wars. Our future is forever wars. And so will be sword-making.
Jimm, there are elements in the calculus devoid of “avaricious and competitive dispostion(s).” Sadly those elements are small and tend to be outshouted by the aggressive, short-sighted, and selfish ones. Socrates, Jesus, and other philosophers are examples of what happens to the wise and compassionate. Human nature itself that could benefit from a reset.
And without this "extreme overweight" Israel would not exist. I agree that both parties have much blood on their hands, but until the Palestinians divest from Hamas and Israel stops the annexing of Palestinian land, nothing will be solved.
Bill Bonner recently took a welcome hiatus from bashing Israel and Jews and returned to writing in his usual style from times past. I once again took pleasure in reading his musings. After October 7th of last year, I had grown so weary of his almost daily rants against Israel that I’d decided to not renew my subscription to BPR. I almost thought he’d had a change of heart when he seemed to regain his bearings and write sensibly. I even reconsidered my subscription and thought about renewing it. But today I see that Bill only went into hiding for a while to prepare his next attack. He’s shown his true colors. Nope, not gonna renew. Bill is toxic.
One of the first "revolutionary" acts that should occur in every community is to stop the nonsense of property tax increases every year.
Just because a home goes up in value should not mean the government receives more money.
In a sane society, the people should be required to approve any increase in government revenues. Nothing should be automatic.
However, every community in the nation appears to willing accept this theft without question.
DW: I think I would faint if I ever got a reduction in my house taxes. Happens every year! You can always count on it.

And now the IRS is flooding the zone with “Pay Up!” letters. Anybody else get one this year? They claim they didn’t receive the 1099R from Fidelity that shows my tax withholding that Fidelity forwards to them EVERY YEAR on my behalf.

"From the River to the Sea."
Israeli's No, Netanjahu Yes
AGAIN BILL: Your Blatant Jew-Hatred glibly emerges with your snide comment "to liquidate the Palestinian presence", and literally is disingenuous. The fighting is intended to eliminate Hamas terrorists who have killed innocent women and babies.
I agree
Are you really so incapable of nuance? That is effectively the goal of the Israeli state and the intended result of the terrorist attack by Hamas.
The millionaire/billionaire Hamas leadership in Qatar don't give a damn about the Palestinian people, what they care about is a long term undermining of the Israeli position as "the good guys", a goal which the Israelis are enabling.
The current situation is a vendetta with spiralling violence and retribution where neither side can hope to win, unless winning is defined as survival.
Bill, your view points are very factual and fit with HISTORY, too sad our COUNTRY (U.S.A.) is not
different, but such is mankind. History, always repeats, only looks different and new. The level of
wisdom in the U.S.A., might be at a all time low. The TECH creations over the past few years has
everyone believing they are smart (hi-IQ), maybe but not related to WISDOM, that be missing!
RALPH W.
I see this as the confusion between information and knowledge not to mention wisdom.
Being able to look up some facts (or fictions) on the net doesn´t make anyone a wise person.
So true - but that ability CAN alleviate Ignorance (if the looker is not too far gone with regard to Indoctrination.)
As for Stupidity, there is no cure beyond duct tape...
Always heard that stupidity can be unlearned, but, ignorance is self imposed !!
😅
What is wisdom? Okay, where is there a manifestation of wisdom in the public plaza?
As I don´t shy away from criticism I also like to emphasize where I agree with the author.
Which is the case today.
Bill, once again you are spot-on. You continually hit the nail squarely on its head. Obviously, reading the comments, there are oh so many without a lick of common sense. Head in the sand and completely paralyzed to a viewpoint. Sad really.............please keep up the good work!
Instead of Maximum Safety mode and the tankers which peaked months ago, how about investing in the evil defense contractors??
