Whether I'm selfish in this view, or sane, I believe that you can't have public good until after you have private good. Survival is a private concern, not a public concern, and is the most basic good.

Only after I survive myself, am I able to assist others in survival. It reminds me of the pre-flight instructions on a jet: "If you are with someone that needs assistance (operating the oxygen mask), first place the mask on your face, then use it to assist help the one in need next to you."

Exactly. Right on. I purchased the book and gave a copy to each of my children. Plus, I included a copy of this post to them. Until the world figures out that government cannot take care of everybody, we will have all the negative nonsense, vile stupid attitudes, and division that is present in society. The government attempting to manage the life of everyone is like Don Quixote tilting at windmills.

One can change themselves as the priest from Normandy suggested. However, changing of oneself is limited to the human ability to submit to Almighty God through Jesus Christ. Only Jesus has the power to change us by his spirit. We, you and I,and every human who ever drew breath is powerless to the change of wrong to right. Just as even the faith that God is the only giver of and sustainer of life is a gift, you cannot have that faith on your own anymore than you can draw your next breath or control anything after the moment your breath in this earthly body ceases. Man’s problem of not seeing and understanding real truth in life is rooted in the fact that we humankind have great difficulty seeing and separating the physical part of our lives from the spiritual part. Jesus’ teachings had this common thread throughout. Sadly most of mankind’s focus and efforts strive toward tending to the physical self, when the spiritual is much much more important and so often neglected completely, much to satan’s liking.

I thought the original title of Bill’s book was better: “Win-Win, or Lose”. Maybe the publisher thought it gave too much away.

I've loved the bonny Bill Bonner's stuff since the get, lo these many years ago.

But the perennial prescription-fill queues inside & outside the Walgreens pharmacy for heal-change thyself pills, syrups, salves & suppositories is the snake oil that sellebrates the fact:

The slate is not blank ... & each gets what s/he gets @the-one-door-opens-&-all-others-close known as conception.

And the heaviest ladles are of the commonest, least valuable/most anti-nutritive stuff, which, quoth The Raven/ous, shall be nevermore.

Macabre, indeed. And casks of healing Amontillado all around.

The get your mind right-fix soundtrack is Fogerty & the boys doing The Midnight Special, & the DeMille cast of billions are Paul Newman & the boys doing Cool Hand Luke.

"What we got here is failure to communicate." ?

No. Failure to comprehend. Or failure of nerve to face the comprehension. That's what "we" got perpetual motion plenty of.

Most probably don't know how hilarious the exchange between Jesus and satan is. Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, who created this world, as well as Lucifer (who chose to be satan), is getting an offer by His creation(!). Jesus eternal kingdom for transitory kingdoms built on (self destructive) selfishness. You can't make this stuff up. Only an insane, selfish (but I repeat myself) being would make such an offer. I'm surprised Jesus didn't laugh in his face, but He was at the end of a 40 day fast, so probably not in a laughing mood.

Good piece Bill

I literally just wrote this to our church's small group leader - She had recently suggested, out of the blue, to the group that maybe Rick (me) could discuss preparedness with the group in Feb 24 .The leader knows we are preparing for a SHTF event/s. This is a group of 12 or so baby boomer couples that all seem to good , successful, prayerful, but generally asleep "republican" oriented people:

XXXXX-

If you still want to do a discussion on preparedness in Feb 24 let KC and I know and agree on a date we can do at our place or wherever. As the weeks tick away the need should become more and more obvious.

However:

What I would like to understand and maybe a good place to start education in our group is the relationship between bible teachings , faith, belief, prayer, spirituality, etc. and the need to understand what the devil is up to (human generated - lies, war, an entire corrupt political system, election frauds, pharmaceuticals that are not safe or effective, censorship, media propaganda, increasing illness and death from the air, food, water, drugs, etc etc) in our real physical world as it relates to what Jesus/God the Father/Holy Spirit would expect us to do to prepare/protect ourselves and our families?

I feel so ill prepared to understand “is faith and prayer enough” so I can ignore the danger I see from what can only be the Devil fighting hard to destroy us in so many ways. Thus, “party like it is 1999” …… ignorance is bliss

When AI interprets the languages animals use to communicate, and we learn that they have feelings hopes, ambition and practice win-win, then will be still eat them?

Expand full comment

Seriously, if you believe the animal world practices "win-win" then you know absolutely nothing about the animal world.

Bambi, Lion King, and the rest of the anthropomorphic bullcrap that comes out of Hollywood is just grade school entertainment and little else. You should have grown out of that by now, Jimm.

Expand full comment

Actually, 'win-win' is practiced in the animal world. This has been observed on numerous occasions. There was once even a vegetarian lion, named Little Tyke. Look it up.

Expand full comment

Sorry, Alex, but random anomalies do not define standards for any particular ecosystem. The animal world consists of millions of individual life forms interested in only two things---procreation and survival. And survival generally means killing and eating something else. The idea that win-win is "practiced" as part of that program is ludicrous. Any such scenario is accidental, not purposeful.

Expand full comment

Sorry Invector, but this time, Alex is more than correct!

Prior to the Fall of Adam, in the Garden of Eve, all of the "meat" eater animals were Vegetarians.

Me, I'm a carnivore, but, upon Jesus return shortly in our lifetimes, I will eat as required. Although, I Believe that there will no longer be the necessity to eat anymore then.

Expand full comment

We will always eat; we were made that way.

Expand full comment

I was referring to our True life, After He comes for us, and takes us to our eternal life!!!

Why would we have to eat then?

We will have other work to do then, whatever He decides is our best ability.

Expand full comment

For sure, it's an anomaly now. But it used to be the norm. Genesis 1:29; Isaiah 65:25. It will be the norm again.

Expand full comment

I agree with both of you that someday that will be the case. But someday isn't today, and today is what I was addressing.

Expand full comment

Someday could be TODAY. It all depends on your worldview, and whether you think God can work in and through you. Of course, it's not really about what you eat, but whether you allow the spirit of God to dwell in you.

"Alexa, who was Alexander The Great?"

It's all animal world.

Cannibalism, in its many forms ~ like the "color of law" camo pattern ~ is common.

There's even a drawn straw law to pick the next meal in "life"boat situations (those whaleship Essex boys, for example).

And so amongst common hungry humanimal is mad cow/ard (Piven?) disease common.

Expand full comment

Probably. Old habits die hard. Plus, most people don't believe the Bible account; they believe that people evolved from lower life forms, even though that has been scientifically disproven. Being a vegetarian is not the most important thing anyway. If we begin to receive the life of God, then everything else follows.
