What’s wrong with a stock market that is worth 200% of GDP? And why should a nation stop at one-and-a-half times as much debt as GDP? Why not two times as much... or ten times as much?
So one simple letter from the corrupted department of "justice" was enough to cause billions and billions of dollars in "losses"?
Priority One, RIGHT NOW, should be to verify which congress people (and their immediate family members) set their portfolios up ahead of time to make a windfall when the fallout from the letter hit. I guaran-F'in-T there are at least a few dozen of them that did exceptionally well on this week's Options action.
Anybody wanna wager how many have a "D" next to their name?
There is one simple reason that stops nations from printing more and more fiat currency - there is a value limit. People want buying power. When prices continue to rise based on a fiat currency continued debasement - well, eventually other nations and even our own people figure it out. Even us "fat, drunk, and stupid" proles trying to survive in the good ol' USofA. When does that "figure out" happen - slowly, slowly, then all of a sudden. The vast majority will be shocked and then outrage sets in as they realize they are broke - and, unfortunately, many will be dead broke. It is 1929 and life is good.
Totally agree BB often talks about avoiding the Big Loss … but having done so … to whatever extent … how does one avoid the Big Tax grab afterwards? They can only tax those of us that avoided the wipeout!
In a world where failure is not allowed, success is cheapened or rendered entirely meaningless. The result? Zombiehood, not fully alive and not actually dead. "Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son." Best always. PM
That is similar to Churchill when he was called drunk by a disgusted woman. "Yes madam, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly."
It’s been my observation that Nvidia is like many other stocks when they have their hour in the sun, they fly too high then fall. I remember when Amazon flew in 1998 then fell to $35.00. It was even $35.00 in 2008. Some companies like General Motors, IBM, Xerox change economies and then decline.
Something always rises up and something always falls down.
Who owns all this debt? I don’t. Who will loose? What is the ultimate salvation… land and gold, maybe self reliance?
It begin to appear to many now; that land can be taxed, HOA fee'd, and insured out of their possession. Same for gold, and silver !! On other hand ... platinum, paladium, rhodium & the otra PMs, never got confiscated. Anyone else
remember when platinum was at a significant cost premium to gold ?? Much rarer, and 90+% comes from just two major producing countries. Meanwhile, the U.S. of A., Inc./ NATO/ E.U. is currently at war with one of those countries, right now !!
Well, it won't be long now. We will be finding out soon (within the next 2 months) whether our current dollar based monetary system remains viable or the new Bric's monetary system becomes the top dog in world trade. Let's all hope and pray that Bric's turns into a big dud.
I posted this in response to your similar comment on a different board:
Hi Mr. Dame -
"Hopefully, the Bric's monetary system will be a big nothing..."
I agree with that sentiment but don't see a way for it to pan out as the announced BRICS countries amount to something like 65%+ of the global population and 40%+ of all economic activity.
When it goes "live" it won't matter what our "leaders" do to try and counter the effects. That ship sailed LONG ago...
Let's hope not. I hope the world is not turning into California where after you tip over the 50% mark of people on the dole (BRICS), thus voting for more, etc...until there is no turning back... until it breaks. Yes, in CA, actively looking for a way/place out. Saying a prayer for clarity and common sense...somewhere. Idaho?
Risking building out capacity before it is needed sounds like the building out of fiber optics during the telecom boom...
For what it's worth, after the dust had settled in 2002, I made a little money investing in a company that was figuring out how to exploit all the "dark fiber" that was laying around, unused, after the telecom collapse...
The current prevailing belief that stocks & houses ‘never’ go down in price … is the very reason why they will … because most will pile into the market until it does! The story of ‘Icarus’ is not merely long standing akin to credit but eternal like gold. As I like to say to those younger than me, ‘when asset prices go up no one can see the top … when they go down no one can see the bottom.’
When will this absolute mantra that stock buybacks represent paying shareholders when you will not be able to pay your bills in any extended downturn? Obviously the premise is that stocks will recover in a short period of time because the Fed will make it happen, but can it always? Why not?
"But wait... we’re not just talking about Nvidia. We’re talking about why rain comes falling down from the sky... and not up from the ground. We’re talking about the ooh-wah-wah... why trees don’t grow to the sky... nature’s limits... nature’s rules... and why fools fall in love." But also, why do fools believe Kammie Harris is bright enough to be president of the United States? Why do fools vote for opportunistic politicians who have no interest in them or their country? Why do fools believe freedom is easy and our country can exist owing $100tn of debt?
Bill after much cynicism .. today simply the best .. yes there are limits after all .. and perhaps we have to hit a lot more of them before humans become anything more than what they are .. maybe even in politics? now wouldn't that be nice for thanks giving ..

Yes, and those of us who manage to keep something afterward will be viewed as having had access to “insider information”. Windfall profits tax for us!

Key is how you "hold" you wealth. One might consider assets that have no counter party risk and able to be bartered - if there is such an animal.
😂😂😂😂😂

Somebody mentioned just that to Kamala.
She replied: "I'm not fat..."
I remember that Quote who said that?

Dean Wormer said it to Flounder in National Lampoon's "Animal House" (1978)
Dean Wormer to "Flounder" in the movie "Animal House". One of the greatest lines of all time IMO.

Truer works were never spoken. I would add being debt free to your "ultimate salvation" list.
Yes

Why do fools do anything? Because not everyone can enter the Federal government and be rewarded for their incompetence.
Yup. Federal government employment - once off of probation - is a goldbricker's paradise.
