Some say that Ukraine is winning and Russia is losing. Others say Russia is winning and Ukraine is losing. All I know for sure is that the makers of military equipment and weapons are winning big time, and the common soldiers (on both sides) and civilians in the areas destroyed by the fighting are losing big time!

Provocation, like beauty, appears to be in the eye of the beholder. Kennedy threatened war just because Cuba was to receive missiles. The Ukraine is receiving everything including training an Army half the size of the Russia Army. For a nation that defeated Napoleon and Hitler only by laying a scorched earth almost 1000km wide - which was their 'borderlands' - ie 'the Ukraine' their borderlands become a NATO power is serious provocation. Putin has also been warning the west it was for years.

And this, is a beautiful example of how discussion is (not) working these days. Defamation of a person whose opinion you don’t like tells us a lot about you, but thats about it. If there is anything in GB’s statement that is not correct, then educate us why that would be.

How much bis the CIA paying you? Or are you so resistant to the obvious facts and so indoctrinated that you are doing it for free?

I was under the impression that it wasn't too long ago that the general consensus was that Russia was a gas station masquerading as a country! Now it's the evil empire bent on world domination - not sure it can be both? Well it's either that, or that country has undergone a remarkable transformation in a very short time.

In the meantime someone, maybe, can enlighten me as to how many countries does Russia currently have troops stationed in , if we're talking about empires, compared to the US?

Still, all things being equal, the vitriol I expected to read, given Bill's comments, has been more subdued than I thought, so that's encouraging. I'm pretty sure that Russia won't come out of this squeaky clean any more than the Ukraine will, don't think anyone in a war does, but I don't believe that this conflict can be seen as some sort of Luke Skywalker V Darth Vader event either. Either way, it seems like, lots of, especially, young men are being blown to bits daily, which is horrific, however you look at it.

For what it's worth I thought that Bill did a damned fine job of summarizing a very messy, complicated situation

Meanwhile, Russia and Ukraine continue to play a game of "Russian Roulette" with the Ukrainian nuclear plant. Sooner or later they will pull the trigger and blow Europe's brains out with a nuclear accident! The plant is presently disconnected from the power grid and operating a single reactor to provide cooling, known as "island mode". As stated by a nuclear expert, "Island mode is a very shaky, unstable and unreliable way to provide continuous power supply to a nuclear plant".

How come there was no outcry when the West left Afghanistan in such a state that their children are dying? The BBC reported on it, but no great humanitarian response ensued.

It reminds me of two things. The US war in Vietnam where the US bombed, napalmed, and used Agent Orange in vast quantities and not just on Vietnam. They left 2.54 Million Vietnamese dead, but didn't seem to concerned over it. Then the Madeleine Albright quote when asked if 500,000 Iraqi children dying was worth the sanctions against Iraq. According to Albright, it was.

Russia and Ukraine are 2 corrupt oligarchies, both former Soviet Republics fighting over Soviet Borders in a Post Soviet World. The West & NATO just happened to pick the newest 'nation' and most corrupt oligarchy as their dog in this fight. We should have no dogs in this fight and if any of our leader's had an ounce of morality or compassion, they'd be doing all in their power to stop the war and negotiate new borders. The US/NATO inspired coup of 2013/14 was the start of this war, but the continued fighting and shelling of the Separatist areas didn't get news headlines. It was only when a Dutch passenger jet was shot down we in Europe discovered the war was ongoing.

While on the subject, Victoria Nuland actually turned up in Maidan square to encourage the Coup. Her father is Ukrainian - perhaps if we had Hunter Biden's lap-top we might discover quite how much the Ukraine was encouraged to poke the Russian bear and what interest Nuland may have in her father's homeland.

Russia is no Superpower as anyone who read the UK Journalist Peter Hitchens' columns has known for decades. The only thing that probably stops the US/NATO from actually invading to 'bring democracy' is the fact they have nukes.

Which IF true is where the real danger lies. The moment it seems US/NATO supported Ukrainian troops are setting foot on Russian lands is the moment Putin may decide, time for tactical nukes. We should be looking for peace and negotiated and resident population backed borders. The US/NATO/EU/UK are risking a real nuclear catastrophe.

All about the dollars? What would happen if the dollar crashed and left everybody naked? Even the elites or so they call themselves. Would the world stop to see that the euro, pound, peso, yuan, bolivar, and all the other fiat money in the world is nothing but paper. The debt for the world is estimated at some 367,000,000,000,000 dollars. A tidy sum, indeed. Would we all be broke? The good ole boys

always said money is just a way to keep score. Or better yet, declare a jubilee. All debt canceled all over the world. Would that start a war? How to pay for it.? Could we trade a bottle of whiskey for a rifle? Or trade a pig for a canon? Interesting times, indeed! Just sayin'

An interesting analysis I read concerns the US and the Petro-dollar. Every time it appeared that a country was about to replace the $ as the currency of exchange for fossil fuels, the US steps in. Nordstream was always the target for the US, because Russia was willing to accept payment in Euros. The analysis pointed out how it wasn't until Saddam started offering his oil to Europe in return for Euros not dollars, that the US 'intervened' to bring democracy. Iran under sanctions was another country that expressed an interest in trading oil/gas for 'native currencies'. Now whether that analysis was correct or not I don't know, but at some point one has to accept that there are just too many coincidences not to wonder if the greatest weapon the US has, and uses widely is the $.

You got your talking points from Jim Rickards didn't you? His piece was almost identical, Russia is winning, Europe will crack, NATO pushed Russia into this war, Ukraine is corrupt and stealing the aid money, yada yada. Or was it RT? BTW, the city in the Russian propaganda video you show is not even in Europe, it's in Siberia.

I haven't seen NATO invading any countries. Putin has been absolutely clear that his goal is the restoration of the Soviet/Russian empire. This war started in 2014 with his undeclared war in Donbas and Crimea which he got away with. Now Europe and NATO and the proud Ukrainians are refusing to allow an invasion akin to Hitler's of Czechoslovakia in 1939 to stand. Putin will be stopped and NATO has already been expanded.

Only trump and you believe in Putin's genius. He is a murderer, a poisoner of his rivals and enemies and his attacks on Ukraine are one long terrorist act against civilians and their cities and towns. He has made a major blunder, his nation and people will be shunned and excluded from the civilized world for decades, his army is already crippled and shown to be hopelessly corrupt and incompetent. Your military analysis is nonsense, Ukraine has cut off the Russian access across the Dnieper river completely and is encircling approximately 20,000 Russian troops there in Kherson who may very well be forced to surrender in the next few weeks. At the same time they are also advancing in Kharkiv which has come as a surprise to everyone. There is no chance at this point that Russia can win this war.

For you to seemingly advocate abject surrender to a murderous tyrant for the expedience of money and cheap energy is abhorrent and repellent. You may be willing to submit to tyrants but thankfully many people are not. Ukrainians are showing the world how to stand up to tyrants. Slava Ukraini!

One thing is different than another. One thing has nothing to do with the other. The USA is different from NATO. NATO is a defensive pact, it has not attacked or occupied any countries. They intervened against Serbia in defense of the victims of Serbian criminal and genocidal aggression.

I certainly oppose all pointless US bombing and wars, especially GW's. After 9/11 Afghanistan needed to be done and was by 100 CIA and special forces and 500 mil in cash to the Northern Alliance, should have declared victory and gone home but no, idiot Bush went on to spend trillions and pointlessly invade Iraq.

Serbians were waging an illegal genocidal war much like Putin's, the US saved many Muslim's lives there. Some are even grateful.

If you can't tell the difference between righteous and criminal wars you have a cognitive problem.

BTW, Bill and others, you did notice that this week the Russian Army is collapsing in Kharkiv and completely cut off, isolated and ready for surrender, panicked withdrawal or destruction in Kherson? There is zero chance they will 'win' their ridiculous war, the best they can do is to continue their terrorist shelling of civilians and infrastructure.

Yes Bill, the only losers in this chess game are the American and European people. The entire gang of progressive/great reset/climate changing, new world order, anti-human scum(which includes Biden, Trudeau, Macron and Zelensky) are making billions for thier personal gains and causes(all American cash if you havent noticed), while the people of all said nations will suffer immensely while this game continues.

Putin could end the so called war, or in reality, game, in a few weeks, but will continue to play until all of NATO are bankrupted, as we did to the Soviets in the 80s, they will do to us. Such a brilliant game against such clueless opponents.

I despise what is happening to our world, but we have choices to fight back and put the corrupted where they belong, before they do so to us.

His Navy hardly floats, his flagship sank after one missile hit, much of his fleet lay rusting away post Soviet collapse. His one aircraft carried passed through the English Channel accompanied by a sea-going tug. It also belched black smoke behind it. Why the tug? According to Peter Hitchens it was in case it broke down (mind you one of the UK's state of the art Carriers broke down the other week too) Russia is only a Nuclear Power. It is no super-power, hasn't been since it emerged from the Soviet collapse. Even it's army is second rate. I watched a report on CNN where a US expert of Military vehicle maintenance explained why Ukrainian farmers ended up collecting so much Russian hardware. They'd not even rotated the 'stored equipment' so the tyres had perished and kept bursting in the field and their troops had to abandon them. Now whether Russia purges its commanders and learns, as they did in both the Russo-Finnish wars of the late 1930's and WW2 and become an army to be feared, I've no idea. But poking a nuclear Russia is not a clever thing to do. Particularly as it has tactical nukes, and should US/NATO backed Ukrainian boots set foot on Russia ground, I would not be surprised if Putin used a couple. That is the danger that the warmongering idiots in the West risk.

Zelensky isn't a Nazi. His problem is there are a great many on the right in the Ukraine who admired the Nazis. They are very powerful and they determine whether peace or war. According to the UK journalist, Peter Hitchens (very knowledgeable on Russia, expected of a former Russian correspondent who lived in Moscow during the collapse of the Soviet Union) Zelensky got elected on a peace ticket, but the right/Nazis proved to be more powerful and he was basically given an offer he couldn't refuse. Which meant no peace was likely. Given even Biden refused to say to Putin 'No NATO membership for Ukraine (at least until Putin had invaded) it eventually led to this war. Neither side is on the side of the Angels, but at least Putin warned the west repeatedly what would happen if we didn't stop expanding NATO up to Russia's borders.

So doesn't shelling the Donbas and Luhansk and the on going hostilities since the US/NATO fomented Coup of 2014 constitute 'provocation' - The US/NATO found sufficient provocation (including sending US politicians to Maidan square to incite the coup- Victoria Nuland being one) simply because a legitimate (if corrupt, and what Ukrainina President hasn't been, including Zelensky?) Russian leaning President decided at the last minute that the EU's deal wasn't as good as Putin's deal which threw in gas, something the EU couldn't match. Suddenly then he is unacceptable. Whilst I can understand your patriotism, to be so biased as to bend reality to fit that isn't a good idea, it leads to big mistakes. Read up on George F Kennan, in fact read this, he was the architect of the 'Containment of the USSR' policy and lived to regret it. He was outspoken in choosing that the Russian former Soviet Republic should be treated as the USSR.

https://responsiblestatecraft.org/2021/10/25/what-george-kennan-can-teach-us-about-us-russia-relations/

We should have no dog in this fight, Biden's son's pet or otherwise. We should in fact be pushing hard for peace AND a negotiated settlement to Soviet Borders in a non-Soviet Eastern world.
