Why does Big Tech hate free speech so much? The answer is simple and obvious: anyone, any group, any government which hates free speech does so, because they don't think their audience/constituency can be trusted to make the "right" choice, i.e. the GROUP's choice, and the audience/constituency must therefore be corralled, impinged, restricted, or otherwise controlled in order to insure the proper "choice' by the audience/constituency. That sad fact is depressing enough; worse still is the fact that they get away with it. Best always. PM

without the technology companies there can be no elitist narrative echo chamber. Propagated and propagandized by our friendly democratic party and deep state operatives in the intelligence and justice departments. Hence the apoplectic response to Musk opening Twitter up to non-narrative voices: such a crime!!! I applaud his efforts to open the platform to free speech -regardless of narrative support. I wish the other technocrats had the balls to stand up to these true "fascists"

Apple will take direction from the Chinese govt to protect their factories & access to market. And Big Tech hates free speech because they support the govt line in both the West and the East.

Apple needs stability in China way more than the board cares about the freedom of the population. The iPhone 14 Pro is a huge hit and interruption of production is not acceptable. If I were King 😉, I’d ask Apple politely to secure the airdrop function and enhanced the networking capability to help overthrow the CCP. That would be the honorable American thing to do. Since Apple sent their “update” they have shown what they stand for very clearly.

The AirDrop detail is new to me and alarming. I’m skeptical about these Chinese zero Covid lockdowns because remember the 2020 videos of people laying in Chinese streets? I learned since that some may have been theatre.

As Omar has stated, "it's all about the Benjamins", as is the Ukrainian war and all wars that benefit the military industrial complex, which is to say "all wars".

I tend to agree with TL. Also, stock holders are not the ones getting rich. It’s the officers, lobbyists and politicians working the system. These people would sell out their mothers for profit.

Has Apple been "nudged" by the USA or China to disable "AirDrop?" I can see arguments for either, or both.

I suppose one could argue that there is a different definition of “free speech” than that which the Constitution refers to. “Free speech” as defined by those, to whom I disagree, can only be proper when it doesn’t hurt someone, particularly the feelings of the definer of this new age speech. Being hurt by someone’s speech can be the result of a simple disagreement between the speaker of hurtful things and the hurtee. The end result of this line of reasoning is that the new age definition of free speech is not the result of someone capitalizing on an opportunity to limit speech for say purely political reasons. Instead, the new age speech definer truly believes that speech does not comport with that definer’s thoughts is hurt speech, or hate speech when it really gets to it, and must be stopped. I believe this perspective is a result of the terrible educational system we have allowed to develop in America over the past three generations, where youth is exposed to only those things that they agree with, or youth is indoctrinated to believe in the venerable perspectives that make them so prone to being hurt by someone else’s speech. Hate speech is constitutional per the Supreme

Court, but a willing administration, mass media, social media, educational system and a healthy dose of narcissism have combined to threaten free speech like never before. One can be prosecuted, sued, ostracized, shunned, cancelled and retaliated against from every direction. One can be financially destroyed and left without family and friends. It is a terrible fate and, because of these threats, more and more are choosing to stay silent instead of speaking out. I am glad I am an old man and won’t see the worst of it. I feel badly for my grandson and apologize for not doing a better job of leaving him in a world worth living.

If you want to make a Lib's head explode just tell them that "there is no such thing as hate speech". Then when they're having their apoplectic fit go for the kill shot where you explain that "no man is qualified to be the decider as to what is hate speech and what is not." Their exercised reaction to these self-evident truths makes for a good example of why no man is qualified.

You make a great point about "more and more choosing to stay silent instead of speaking out". That's a big part of their goal. They want fear and compliance. The big question (which will ultimately determine the type of world your grandson, my sons and yet to be born grandchildren are going to live in) is: How much longer are we going to put up with this nonsense?

Washington elites and Big Tech elites are "woke", both having come out of the Ivy league training factories. Their function is to control the middle class and drain it of their means of being independent. So many "LIV's"(low information voters) are clueless about what is happening to them, and the MSM fights tooth and nail to keep them this way. And now Biden's "open border" policy (over 5 million illegals already) will eventually be the final nail (transformation) in America's coffin. The last great hope of freedom in the world is being dismantled.

Well put, Dave J. I am fortunate that I can speak freely because I am old and have put myself in a position where I can give the sensitive souls the finger. The patriots that are not at my age and have not prepared themselves for the aggression they will suffer will have to reassess their lives and decide what fight, if any, they want to fight.

I am fortunate because I was blessed to be born in what was the greatest country in the history of civilization. It is excruciatingly painful to watch the demise knowing that we are in a "when the money goes, everything goes" situation. I agree with you, younger men that us are going to have to make a decision. I hope they will pick the United States of America (as originally founded) as the hill to die on.

Because hating free speech is a Democrat necessity . I"m guessing that ALL tech giant owners are Democrats. Since they are on the wrong side of American values, they have to control speech exhorting American values lest their brainwashed (literally) base hear things they aren't being told. It's the same in any college campus. The Democrat teachers cannot afford to have conservatives speaking to their students.
