Bill, I love your live and let live disposition. I also heed your warning about unintended consequences. And I am sad that Russians are allowing their dictator to run amuck; killing innocents; claiming territory just like Adolph Hitler did.

Putin's invasion of Ukraine is inexplicable; tragic. If volunteers wish to help the hapless Ukrainians, then they will just like the Muslims rallied to fight the invading Americans who attacked the wrong countries to smite the Saudis for destroying the WTC

I fear the worst is yet to come

Where were these foreigners wanting to fight for the underdog the last 8 years as the regime in Kiev's actions resulted in the deaths of 14,000 Ukrainians in eastern Ukraine? You have unwittingly justified Russia's actions; the Ukrainians in Donbas are in the minority and very much an underdog when compared to their brothers in the rest of Ukraine.

Bill what exactly is your point?

For the west simply doing nothing ?

Watch Putin slaughtering the Ukrainians without any consequences? Are you seeing the pictures and videos?

Enjoy your lovely steak in sunny BA and let us Europeans cater for the millions of refugees pouring into the neighbouring countries in freezing conditions.

Another great article! How do get the inspiration to keep writing? I’d be interested to hear about your writing process.... ps did you mean censored rather than censured? I love how you list synonyms. Pushkin did similar...

Reminds me of 1940. The Americans were anxious to help those countries being attacked by the Axis Powers. American pilots went to Canada, joined the RCAF, so they could go to Britain to fight the Nazis. More organized was the First American Volunteer Group (AVG) put together by Clare Chennault. They were called the Flying Tigers, and their main object was to protect the "Burma Road" from being attacked by Japanese aircraft who were at war with china. The Burma Road was the main aerial route for supplies to help China.

Finally caught up in reading my emails. Getting over 150 each day can be burdensome. But I slog through and finally find myself catching up with Bill's post from yesterday.

Looks like Gold is over $2000/oz tonight. Glad I got a small bit in the safe.

Silver is up to $26.78/oz. Good thing I bought all those Silver Eagles when they were at $12/oz. Might have to cut them up into pieces and trade them for chickens before this is all over.

WTI Crude is up to $126.49. According to the "experts" quoted in Bill's article that puts the U.S. economy into recession. I agree that is coming. Can't drive that semi-truck with diesel over $5.00 per gallon. Not without passing on huge transportation costs to the consumer. Can't drive the farm equipment either.

I can't drive from my outpost in the mountains to the grocery store with gasoline over $4.00 per gallon. Yet tomorrow I have to drive hundreds of miles to Denver International Airport to meet with government functionaries to renew my right to pass through immigration expeditiously when I travel. That's going to cost me several hundred dollars in fuel that is unexpected and unplanned for. Not sure where those funds are coming from. If only USCIS would deliver like Amazon Grocery does.

I can see the summer now. If diesel and gasoline stay high, farmers won't be able to run the machinery to cut and bind hay. If they do, the ranchers won't be able to afford to buy the hay. That means livestock being slaughtered wholesale and plowed under the ground rather than being delivered to the slaughter houses. Which drives up the available food prices even higher.

Good think I've got a whole lot of .308 and 30-06. Plenty of deer and elk in these mountains and the Texans and Kansans aren't going to be able to get here for hunting season with fuel prices this high. That's a good thing... I think.

Just an update on the refugee crisis:

Some TWO million have already crossed into neighbouring countries

with tens of thousands more Ukrainians wanting to escape ( primarily women & children)

The response from all over Europe is phenomenal… if any of you want to donate generously… do it via the Red Cross, specifying “ Ukraine Help “ ; they’ve got the expertise and helpers on the ground 😍

I tried to subscribe but cannot get past the zip field. The zip code here in NZ is only 4 digits which error out. Is there an alternative?

Bill, its true no country ever gets everything it does right. Any action begs the question what if the USA had done nothing. The West is fortunate to have the USA as their minder and we in Australia know what influence the USA had in the 2nd WW saving Australia's arse to put it mildly. Your a critic with no boundaries and have been rewarded for your sobering thoughts. Imagine if Trump was still running the show and the show went for 30 years. Be proud of your country for what it has done - lives were lost (the greatest gift/cost of all and yet you attribute no value to it when recording the $ investment made in defending the world from evil. Those lives should never be taken for granted. You could have been in that statistic - your life over at the tender age of 18. Putin is a war criminal, threatening nuclear action which makes no place/person on earth safe including you and wherever you choose to reside. Putin should be brought to account as he exhibits all the traits of another Hitler and should be judged asap.
