Joel, I heard this week that your home country must be ruled by a member of the royal family. There is some debate of finally breaking free and creating a republic with debate on how democratic it should be. Given the queens death the topic has resurfaced. Did I understand it correctly? And would love to hear our take. Great weekly updates as always. Cheers

We bought our first and only house in 1984 when interest rates were 16-17%. It would have taken 238 Oz of gold to buy the house back then. We noted the other day that it is for sale at a price nearly 3x what we paid. We also computed it would take 168 Oz of gold to buy it. A 300 percent increase in dollars. A 30% decrease in ounces. Fascinating. I’ll be picking up another 5 Oz tomorrow.

Precisely. Contrast that with home prices in Canada specifically Vancouver in CAD terms.

1984 approx. 521 ounces today, ? approx 625 ounces ! In CAD term 8x increase, my numbers may be off some but the results speak for itself.

Wow. That is pure insanity.

Regarding currency debasement and inflation, relating to gold, for the most part, they merge into one. (Note that debasement is where the Fed stores it’s printed money . Might as well laugh than cry!)

The value of anything is based on what someone will give you for it. Hard real life lesson. I was a soldier a long time ago. Dry socks were worth a carton of cigarettes. Since I don't smoke i always had them in my pack for bartering. Gold is pretty but you can't eat it.

Well, you cant eat cigarettes either however, I suppose you could, as one could eat gold but I digress.

Good read....I learned about ANZAC Day ( I knew the history of Gallipoli battle/defeat)and heard Edgar's Nimrod which I may have heard before(I really love acappella music)but not identified. Both refreshed my quotidian life! Thank you!

Viewing the world around me today makes me feel like an old worn tire (tyre if you prefer) which still has a fair amount of tread left. However, the inner tube has developed a slow leak which dictates that it is only a matter of time before totally deflating, becoming flat, and thus losing my purpose in life.

Not pleasant thoughts nor outlook for the future.

I am investing in precious metals as well. Mostly based on yours, Bills and others advice. But, not gold stocks. Actual touchy feely metal. My choice is Platinum. Two reasons. One its going up and gold ain’t. Two its not popular. Curious to hear what you think?

Expand full comment

If I may , for years platinum prices was above gold since 1971 till 2008 made a small recovery and the last time that gold and platinum were at the same price was august 2011 , since it s been down down

The ration platinum against gold is at almost it s low when 1 ounces gold could buy 2,5 ounces of platinum . Today it s close to 1 ounces gold buy 2 ounces of platinum. Now you know récession no good for white metals .

An Aside from Adelaide Australia.

I watched a movie over the weekend - Mr. Jones. A story about a journalist in the early 1930's who met with Hitler, and travelled to Russia hoping to interview Stalin. Instead he visited the Ukraine (illegally).

I was struck by the movie's reinforcement of a phrase used widely in BPR - History doesn't necessarily repeat itself but does frequently rhyme.

I recommend viewing in the light of current "stuff"

You neglected to include war in the Bigger Picture. I recall reading long ago that there has never been a period in modern human history in which someone was at war with some else somewhere.

Yes Joel, the world has not changed since man has walked upright. If we look at history as a cycle, then it is really a predicted reality. "So let it be written, so let it be done"...Guess it depends on who is writing the history...

Yes all, WE are going to get screwed again. WE is not me nor many of you, as we appreciate the gifts that God gave us. Most don't.

All this jibber jabber about the Queen, cycles, money and useless gold(makes a really cool tooth).

The powers that are will make Electronic money, Vehicle's and Meta Worlds the big new standard in this new world, great reset, big bullshit move that they are creating. Ethereum(soon very low energy to secure)and Bitcoin will be the new Gold and Silver.....until the power goes out :)

Lets Never Forget what they did to us on September 11th, 2001. Let's never Forget the truth, how we were all thrown into a full security state, giving our only true enemy, full power and control over everything we do.

Never Forget!!!

God Bless America and those who Fight for Her!!!!
