A day without Bill Bonner‘s essay is like a day without a bottle of Malbec, unbearable.

Thank you Bill, you are the best!

Bill, you are so good with words and telling stories that it's a shame you focus so much in "Money". Please explore other areas, why not a novel? Gracias

Your travel through Normandy reminded me of my first trip to France. It took place many years ago when I was a youngster. My only recollection of it occurred when, while meandering down a tree shrouded lane in a French village somewhere in Alsace, I saw a poignant reminder of WWII: It was a German helmet hanging from a branch in small but sturdy tree in a backyard garden. The helmet had been converted into a flower pot. But it was the bullet hole in the helmet's side that made forever memorable that moment. After all these years, it's still a vivid full-color memory

Very interesting. More details concerning the two lovers would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in no way condoning what's transpired, but you have to give props to the Deep State's Globalist Faction for their coup. The Deep State's Nationalist Faction didn't know what hit them. You have Politico's, Tribalists, and various other Virtue Signalers patting themselves on the back for avoiding a Trump (i.e. Nationalist) coup. Turns out they were right to be concerned about a coup, they just had the perpetrator wrong. Tribal allegiance retards both mental and visual acuity. The gift that just keeps giving :-)

Bill, you made me chuckle, I remember France in the mid 50s when a child, in the 70's and 80s when we finally bought a house here in the south west of France. I certainly remember the days when everyone had a Minitel and most all the post offices were mechanised, it was so easy to send a letter on one of their new machines. They do not even have these machines today in the UK ! I would drive down with the kids using the small roads, never the autoroutes and we would pass through some delightful towns and villages, often staying in some really quirky places, which were delightful. My husband followed a few weeks later as he worked for BofA and American holidays were and perhaps still are just a few weeks a year. We would pick him up in Toulouse and then our holiday began.

One third of restaurants and cafes have closed due to Covid, so sad and now there is the problem of finding staff for those still open. As you say, there are towns now with no decent restaurants and many tourists are not interested in good food, it is more the cheaper they can find like the nearest pizza place. I can remember when you had to book a restaurant on a Sunday because most all families ate out, us too as Sundays I did not cook. They, the young folk today, say it is all progress, but i find this hard to believe as the standards of almost everything have now gone down. Sadly one of the best we knew in Les Landes was Le Table de Capucin, where the wife was an excellent cook and her husband was front of house. Good Grandma's cooking, they closed last month and we were truly desolate. On a brighter note, it is still possible to find a few excellent restaurants with good chefs.

Top of the morning to you all, we are back! America is back, greener and cleaner than ever, forever! Deep pockets, firing rockets, and back to lining up heavy pockets. Don’t be a dummy and miss out on the yummy. 😀😂

I thoroughly enjoy your writing Bill. I hope you find time and motive to write a book someday soon...I know I for one would almost surely enjoy it immensely. A fact based fiction novel would be awesome!

Thank you for your missives...I too look forward to reading them daily.

What do Producers do when they're systematically attacked by Parasites? They stop Producing and hyper focus on retaining what they have. The Ideologues running the current Jacobin Regime are going to learn a very important lesson in economics. They could have avoided this teaching lesson by reading Mises Human Action, but that's assuming they have the IQ to absorb the content :-)

Its been sometime since i've been to France and am sorry the small restaurants have given away to fast food. Your story brought back memories. I remember meeting Guy Louis Duboucheron, owner of L'Hotel on the Left Bank.

Bill, would love to travel as easily as you and your spouse get to do. I am always afraid of the language barrier. Where I live in Pennsylvania, it's sometimes a bit annoying to deal with the PA Dutch on occasion or Philadelphia slang. Do you have issues with language or are you multilingual? The ferry ride, the road trip to the south of France, the reminders of WW2, and the descriptions of old acquaintances was like living a short vacation in my head. That was nice and a much appreciated detour from the usual financial confusion.

Yes, I am way behind on my emails as I get over 130/day. I am financial POA for a neighbor suffering with awful dementia. I haven't had a vacation in years. I severely injured my left knee and can't get around too well. Worse, I don't drink. So, throw in more notes of local scenes and activities once in a while so I can enjoy the break. Thanks.
