Of course, this outcome assumes that no land invasion occurs. That Irans neighbors will just lick their wounds and put up with Iran being granted regional sovereignty. That Trump, as a man of his word, refrains from launching his own ground invasion. Frankly, it assumes that Trump will simply accept responsibility for a defeat. I have to say Bill, I think that assumes too much. We’ll see…

Patrick G's avatar

we have a lot of friends in the region helping us NOW. And the IRGC is spewing a lot of fake news....and we also know where they are and what they have left and how to deal with that. Iam anxious to get on with it and END THAT REGIME FOREVER. UTTERLY DESTROY THEM. NO PRISONERS OR SURVIVORS.

Angry Icebergs's avatar

...the U.A.E. has attacked Iran.

Muslim siding with the U.S. fighting "fellow" Muslims.

Not sure how anyone can conclude U.S. is losing...

Josh Broederlow's avatar

How do you not understand the americans do not have escalation dominance here. If the US resumes and escalates iran targets desalination plants and oil assets - rendering these countries uninhabitable and cause global depression. There is no ground invasion option - the iranians would welcome the attempt. Firstly the US simply dont have the troop numbers nor the ability to keep them supplied. Secondly where do u stage the troops for invasion…most of their bases are destroyed and any staging of a large number of troops would be destroyed by a few shahed drones. Theyr running out of interceptor missles (THAADS etc) and will quickly run out of stand off missles… I am interested to hear how you end that regime? Draft? Nukes? And at what cost?

There is far more evidence that this attack has caused the predictable ‘rally around the flag’ effect within Iran, even among the younger generation - demonstrated by the huge nightly rallys and reported enlistments (if they are to be believed). All the older generation of leadership (Ghalibaf, Argachi, Mojtaba etc) all fought in the Iran Iraq war, and harbour the anger of US intervention in their country that perhaps the youth didnt. This war has likely made the younger generation more sympathetic to what the older generation have been rallying against all these years - and now they too are experiencing it first hand.

Vietnam, Iraq, Afganistan…now add Iran to the list of disastrous US interventions. Quit now.

Im not anti trump i was supportive of trump, but its obvious his action since coming back into office are the inverse of his election promises.

Genuwinely, can u please articulate the options the pentagon is planning for? How do u think they get a strategic victory here?

Strategic victory represented by getting their HEU, reopen the strait, regime change etc etc…

Listen to Gen Jack Keane?! Holy heck, u really dont understand the nature of the conflict your country is in if the answer to the conflict is bomb everything and ‘open the strait militarily’, drop in the 82nd Airbourne on Kharg island….?!! “If you just bomb them hard enough they will give in” hahahaa

Ur retired, and still havent learned any listens from just the history of even the last 25 years… 10t dollars, 5mil people dead, 100k + servicemen suicides…And now all of ur bases in the middle east have been exposed as a hollow bluff. And doing a great job of stoping global terror - al qaeda now runs syria. And most of the immigration problem throughout europe and latin america is caused by american foreign policy…bomb the world then invite the world.

Its not only that trump failed to keep his election promises “exactly as promised”, hes done the exact opposite - no mass deportation, more foreign wars, canned doge, wider deficits more debt, more inflation… but hey, America First?! Yeah right…

Arrogance mixed with delusion is the reason ur destroying yourselves and you cant even see it - war and inflation.. Its embarassing. Blowing ur own brains out trying to dominate the world.

Oh..Free the Iranian people….with bombs! Yay… what do you think the consequence is of Iranians seeing that 168 little girls get bombed then incinerated on Day 1 of the war… you think they are cheering for more American liberation?!

Yeah im not american, so dont ‘have a seat at the table’, but neither do you, you are just naïve enough to think you do. My country for all our problems doesnt bomb and kill millions of people all over the world while destroying its own people with inflationary money and demanding they pay for the world empire…which is going away.

I had great hopes for Trump, how silly in hindsight. I dont watch CNN, and you should stop watching FOX, you’ll start to believe the things Jesse Watters says…

How many foreign nationals have the US murdered in foreign military interventions? The US empire is despised. The American military are despised, and deservedly so — they are enforcers of a psychopathic money grubbing regime. Sorry Bill, but reporting the truth about the Iran war is now illegal. Please report to your nearest police station.

Angry Icebergs's avatar

With this piece of opinionated garbage Bill need not worry about reporting any truths...

Tom Langdon's avatar

Truth is a hard commodity to operatioalize.

Angry Icebergs's avatar

Truth is subjective and therefore when present we may never know.

Xavier Narutowicz's avatar

You want truth…every one dies.

Angry Icebergs's avatar

Although I agree with your statement.

Being an obnoxious contrarian, it's almost impossible to prove.

How would you "know" everyone dies unless you are the last person on Earth?

-

What lies beyond may be "life", better than here now... we don't know.

How can "we" be the judge of truth or not, if we don't know?

Tom Langdon's avatar

Dear Angry the truth by linguistics definition and within the context of generational cultures is definitely not subjective. It is consistent with the old aphorism that figures lie and liars figure.

Angry Icebergs's avatar

Truth by linguistic definition is "conformity to fact or actuality".

Or "the reality of the situation".

But the situation will always appear different from differing POV's.

Reality is actuality in the form of a state of mind.

What you experience likely differs from mine.

Conforming to the "truth at hand" does not make it true...

Omitting part of the truth renders the rest wholly untrue.

If you begin to question your understanding, the truth you think you know, changes.

Many here think Mr. Bonner speaks truth with this opinion piece.

Likely as many think Bill is full of BS

Ask Mr. Bonner, are you telling the truth?

He will tell you of course it's the truth!

Does he know it's incomplete?

And therefore true, but not the truth.

Perhaps the definition of reality should be "the conforming of many minds"...

Tom Langdon's avatar

Dear Angry, you miss the meaning of truth. It not subjective points of view. It's not one man's truth and another's lie. It's not an institution's long held beliefs, rather it is knowledge passed down over time that has been vetted by scientific methodology and continuously repeatable over any period of time, as it is timeless. You know a bird in hand is worth two in the bush or spare the rod and spoil the child both of which scientifically vetted aphorisms. Good chat.

Angry Icebergs's avatar

Spare the rod, spoil the child...

What if the child is correct and the adult wrong?

A bird in hand is worth two in the bush...

Unless you have the ability to shoot both birds at once.

Your truths hold but for the exceptions.

No longer are they absolute truths, they become "opinions".

Bill is reporting the truth, but incomplete...

Is Bonner a liar?

No,

But he is not telling the truth either...

They have a few missiles left and a few drones.....we know where they are. What we need to know is what DPRK and China and Russia and Pakistan gave them. ALL NUCLEAR POWERS. We have the greatest and most powerful and most high tech military in the world...bar none. BY FAR. Trump is trying to do this diplomatically for MANY reasons. IRAN is a despicable demonic and hateful Regime that DESIRES armaggedon and Think Allah wants that too...which is nothing but witchcraft. NONSENSE. NO. Allah does NOT want that at all. Well here we go again. Geez. I hate to have to post here as it brings out the libertarian elitist clueless feckless anti american crazies and the openly hostile liberals. A few RINOS. But sometimes I must do so instead of just emailing Bill privately. so here we go.

BILL has an AGENDA. DUH. ITS VERY VERY ANTITRUMP. HE IS NOT OBJECTIVE AND A POLITICAL AS HE CLAIMS. BOGUS. FAKE NEWS. Bill also is ANTI WAR ANTI MILITARY and VERY LIBERTARIAN ELITIST ACADEMIC AND JUST A SOLO VOCE IN THE WILDERNESS.....relatively harmless but annoying. So know that.

Second, he DOES have some interesting connections and some LEAKERS maybe (that leaked the email from Chief of Staff Wiles telling people to stop leaking or else....) and so he gets news sources but then he leaves out CRITICAL facts and COMPLETE analysis and picks and chooses his own low lying fruit and is a lot like MSNBC and CNN and the View.

So on this today I ask Bill....some of your NEWS is correct and simplifying what happened in UKRAINE (its not THE UKRAINE...that is a SOVIET TERM MORON) since 1991 is not helpful though you are somewhat space and time constrained....

Nuland is who she is. BUT OBAMA is responsible for ALL OF THAT. GET THAT STRAIGHT. And Zelenskyy was DULY ELECTED AFTER THE VELVET REVOLUTION and after the FIRST PRESIDENT didnt do well post Revolution..... CIA didnt install Zelenskyy. What happened in those BOGUS HEARINGS ON CAPITOL HILL WAS DISGUSTING. MANY OF THOSE WHO TESTIFIED IN MY OPINION BELONG IN PRISON. ALL LIARS TRYING TO ENTRAP AND BLAME TRUMP WHEN IT WAS BIDEN AND OBAMA TO BLAME FOR ALL OF IT. Corruption in Casablanca? YEP. Corruption in Kiev? YUP. CORRUPTION IN LOS ANGELES, SAN FRANCISCO, MENLO PARK, CHICAGO, SEATTLE, PORTLAND, DALLAS, HOUSTON, DENVER, NEW ORLEANS, NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY, BOSTON, CLEVELAND CHARLOTTE MIAMI AND ATLANTA? YOU BET. AND THE KING OF CORRUPTION IS NONE OTHER THAN WASHDC WHERE LOBBYING AKA LEGALizED EXTORTION TAKES PLACE DAILY AND MOST LOBBYISTS ARE EX CONGRESSMEN. SO BE CAREFUL BEFORE YOU POINT FINGERS AT VOLODOMIR ZELENSKYY....A HERO IN MY VIEW. LIKE CHURCHILL (who had his own Demons btw).

On Iran....we are armed to the teeth and have 1/3 of OUR ENTIRE NAVY THERE READY TO POUNCE and will unleash such force as to make SHOCK AND AWE look like Kindergarten sandbox. And We can do it and either destroy their infrastructure or not. THEIR CHOICE. BUT WHAT IRAN CAN DO TO US? NOT MUCH. NO MILITARY. WE KNOW WHAT MISSILES THEY HAVE AND WHERE THEY ARE. TRUMP TELLING XI IN BEIJING TODAY BACK OFF BOOOGALOO..>THIS IS SERIOUS CRAP AND WE WILL FINISH THE JOB AND SORRY....YOU BOUGHT THEIR OIL AT DISCOUNT AND NOW ARE JAMMED UP. I TRUST JACK KEANE. BIG TIME. FINISH THE JOB DONALD. STOP NEGOTIATING WITH PAKISTAN WHO BACKSTABBBED US AND LET TEHRAN PARK SOME MILITARY JETS THERE. Bastards.

I am 100% behind TRUMP on Iran and so is JACK KEANE but he must FINISH THE JOB. HE WILL. MAYBE WHILE FLYIING HOME ON FRIDAY BUT SURELY THIS WEEKEND. STAY TUNED.

I dont agree with Bill at all or his friends at WOKIST PUBLISHERS AND THINK TANKS FOR ELITISTS AND LIBERALS. SORRY BILL. THEY ARE DEAD WRONG.

Fleitz agrees btw. Another good egg. NO I DONT ALWAYS WATCH FOXNEWS. in FACT I long ago cut off Hannity then Laura and Now Watters...I do WATCH BRETT BAER AND SOMETIMES BRIAN IN MORNINGS AND LEVIN ON WEEKENDS. OTHERWISE ITS CNBC FOR STOCK AND BONDMARKETS AND NewsMax. and I do my OWN research online too. DONT ASK.

GOT IT? Good. Now I wait on the crazies to RESPOND and for Tom DYSON, whom I like and ADMIRE to post his weekly message tonight.

GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK. GOD BLESS AMERICA. Btw, SAUDIS AND UAE ARE BOMBING IRAN TOO. French sent in Charles De Gaulle carrier. ITS A BIG DEAL. WE WILL END THE REIGN OF TERROR FOR GOOD. TRUST ME.

Bill, I’m surprised as an entrepreneur that you are taking such a defeatist road. A strong leader does not let populism guide his actions. I think Trump has a vision that is held by the silent majority. We will see how this plays out. It may be an extension of the empire, but the alternative is absolute destruction, the immediate destruction of the empire.

Patrick G's avatar

Amen. So we are DOING WHAT MUST BE DONE FOR THE FRIGGIN FREE WORLD and TRUMP TELLING XI TODAY FOR HIM TOO. chINA will get OIL DEAL FROM VENEZUELA TO REPLACE IRAN OIL. OTHERS STEP UP. WE WILL PRODucE REcORD OIL. OIL PRICES WILL PLUMMET. BUT WE MUST END THE REGIME IN TEHRAN. FOREVER AND EVER AMEN

Cartero Atómico's avatar

How would a defeat in Iran lead to the absolute destruction of the US empire? Perhaps the defeat of the empire will come from within like the fall of the Roman empire. We are sailing the same route - devaluation of the currency, overextended military with the subsequent costs that exacerbate the debt problem, cultural and moral decline (highlighted by the failure of the DOJ to indict even one of pedos in the Epstein blackmail operation files, bread and circuses - Trump can't wait for the caged wrestling on the White House lawn next month!

I question whether Bill even reads these comments. He strikes me as "here's my view and I don't care what readers think." Strangely, even though its obvious he's negative on Trump, I enjoy reading his tilted view amongst the plethora of so called news articles. Everyone spins their view. I just like to sift through left and right while trying to make a buck in the market. Love Tom and Dan's work btw.

I appreciate obtaining investment input from Tom (that I do pay for as a member) but I am getting quite tired of your negative BS Bill so I will need to pass on your daily missives. Utilizing the word "Retreat" as the descriptive action the US is taking is downright insulting to anyone with a brain and is about as far a stretch as I can take. As a US citizen, you should be ashamed.

Patrick G's avatar

Bravo. But Bill for decades cant help himself....always a LIBERTARIAN ANTI MILITARY Anti GOVERNMENT guy who thinks people when left alone will respect others rights....its comical. BUT IT IS OF COURSE NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. FROM CAIN AND ABEL. And Bill thinks Borders will be respected. WRONG. And so forth. BUT Its also a game....BILL LOVES TO POKE THE BEAR...his nature...and he then gets backlash and pushback and he thinks MORE EYEBALLS and subscribers. DOUBTFUL but Dan can fill us in on that.

When BILL is right and on the mark, btw, I SAY SO.

Frank Westmoreland's avatar

Mr. Taylor, So true. I don't know if Bill is just trying to be provocative or he's not aging well. It's difficult to know because lately he will write a couple of insightful essays pertaining to financial matters, then he writes something political, and it's just a leftist mess.

About the Iranian conflict/police action Bill addresses again today. He writes as if the Iranian mullahs control the Strait, which is nonsense because if they did they would be selling their oil like they used to. And earlier in his essay he indicates that the mullahs can hold out for three to four months before their economy begins collapsing (in other words, into Sept. when mid-terms early-voting begins and gas prices are still high). If they are simply holding out, then how are they controlling the Strait? The only thing I can infer from this is that Bill means that, politically, the mullahs hold some leverage by holding out, which is true, but they are not winning in any practical sense. Pres. Trump can simply pull out and then bomb them again after the midterms. And again and again. Bill has admitted in previous essays that the mullahs have no effective air defense against U.S. bombing. And the U.S. receives only about 8% of its oil via the Strait. And Pres. Trump is making every effort domestically it seems to reduce that even more.

Pres. Trump hasn't lost anything here. Instead he has sent a message to Iran that they better watch out if they intend to try to obtain a nuke, spread terrorism, or both. Mr. Trump has lost fewer American troops in this conflict than the U.S. military loses via accidents, mostly via training exercises. And as far as the money goes, almost all the expenditures stay in the U.S. paid to U.S. defense workers, known as fed. govt. contractors, who provide all this support to the troops and war machinery used overseas. They also are paid to replenish that which has been used. And troops and officers overseas are paid here in the U.S.

And finally, Bill does the old leftist apples-to-oranges comparison by writing that the U.S. was defeated here as in previous "wars." This is nonsense because this is not a "war" in any practical sense. The actual wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, etc., cost tens of thousands of U.S. troops' lives and many more injuries. So the Iranian efforts were set way back with the bombings with extremely-low loss of life by American troops. And when Pres. Trump pulls out, gasoline prices will come back down and the American people will then simply yawn, especially since so few body bags came back. (When gasoline prices come down, I don't know what will happen in the mid-terms. But it won't much henge on gas prices when Mr. Trump leaves in a month or so.)

So a U.S. defeat? Gimme a break. Bill's overblown rhetoric here is classic bombast, similar to what Pres. Trump does occasionally, which Bill harshly criticizes. Irony anyone? You can't make this up.

Patrick G's avatar

Afghanistan followed the Vietnam model and though HEAVILY defeated on the battlefield by us, they "beat us politically and we left...." But we lost NO battles in Afghanistan OR Vietnam.

Patrick G's avatar

I am old enough to remember the GOOD OLD DAYS. When we were FRIENDS with IRAN under the late Shah Reza Pahlavi and Persians traveled and were respected and were more secular than MOST muslims then....good people and many of them very good looking people, highly educated. Its a tragedy what happened to them. I can go on....the role of Jimmy Carter and Amb William Sullivan (yes that clown who was with Kissinger in Paris to end vietnam). NOT GOOD.

John S's avatar

Of course the US was friends with the Shah, PG- the CIA helped install him, throwing out a democratically elected government in the process. And his government was so benign that SAVAK spent most of their time building hospitals and schools.

Patrick G's avatar

I know what was going on in Iran....and why. I know what happened in 1953 and that so called democratically elected government was in fact INFILTRATED BY THE SOVIETS and THEY got THEIR MAN installed....a COMMUNIST GOVERNMENT in the height of Cold War and we heard the alarm bells going off and Teddy Roosevelts grandson was involved in that operation which succeeded in removing the SOVIET STOOGE Mossadegh. That was a WIN for PERSIA and a WIN for the United States and a PUNCH IN THE FACE OF STALIN's USSR. Got it? GOOD. The Savak, I will have you know was NECESSARY to keep the RADICAL Shiites under thumb....who always threatened the Peacock Throne.....and the LATE GREAT SHAH was a SECULAR leader and wanted to maintain that...he did NOT want a THEOCRACY. GOT IT? Did some members of Savak go a bit too far? Sure. So did BIDEN's BROS in our INTEL COMMUNITY and later in DOJ with HORRIFIC SHREDDING OF OUR CONSTITUTION during the WITCH HUNT FOR J6 and IMPRISONING US CITIZENS WITHOUT CONTACT TO LAWYERS WITHOUT BAIL AND WITHOUT EVEN A HEARING...FOR OVER A YEAR IN A HORRIFIC JAIL FILLED WITH RATS. IT WAS DISGUSTING AND I AM STILL BEYOND LIVID ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED. SO YOUR SANCTIMONIOUS OPINION IS ODIOUS AND OFFENSIVE TO ME. SIr.

I knew people from Iran who worked for the Late Great Shah. And they were fine fine people. I knew BOEING people who worked in Iran. On and On. I am anxious and hopeful and filled with JOY we are on cusp of ENDING 47 years of GLOBAL TERROR....at the SOURCE: WHICH WILL DESTROY THE HEZBOLLAH REGIME IN BEIRUT THE HAMAS IN GAZA AND GET JUSTICE FOR US CITIZENS AND SOLDIERS KILLED IN BEIRUT AND USS COLE AND KHOBAR TOWERS AND US EMBASSIES IN EAST AFRICA AND IEDS THEY SUPPLIED IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN AND OTHErS. IT WILL BE A SEMINAL EVENT IN WORLD HISTORY AND I AM IN GREAT ANTICIPATION FOR THIS EVENT. I SUPPORT MY PRESIDENT HERE AND GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS AND GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Thank you. God be with YOU sir.

FVM's avatar

Yes, the "Good Old Days" were not so good. It took a few decades for the replacement regime in Iran to demonstrate that it is not so good either., Perhaps enforcing a choke hold on the Strait will enable it to persist if it can outlast a decreasingly formidable US presence. due to the impending USA fiscal singularity and the technological shifts in warfare.

Patrick G's avatar

I am confident on OUR victory one way or another and the LIBERATION of PERSIA and THE END OF GLOBAL TERROR AT THE SOUrcE. We have the greatest Military in the WORLD. BAR NONE. THE BEST TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT AND WEAPONS. WE ARE NOT DECREASINGLY FORMIDABLE AT ALL. JUST WAIT AND SEE.

If attached with missiles and drones - then take out those launch sites. Why are we just sitting around waiting for the terrorist Iran leadership to continue to "play us" with endless counter proposals, they are just buying time to re-arm, and pressure the U.S. and the world with HIGH oil, gas, ferilitizer, NPG prices. They know how to play the game of delay, delay, delay....

I sat a table with 3 woman from Iran..one was a student, one was a fitness trainer the other was actually born in the UK to Iranian parents. There were others at this table and eventually someone mentioned the mid-east conflict. Neither of these ladies wished 'death to America' all had relatives living back in Iran, they love their country... they would like the conflict to end. As for Ukraine...my 98 year old father and his wife live close to the border between Hungary & Ukraine. My father's wife is determined that Russia eventually wins the Special Military Operation due to the history of treatment of the ethnic Hungarians within Western Ukraine... my father on the other is not sure what the fuss his all about...he's 98 after all.

all politics is local and I have no particular affinity to the regime of the former leader of Hungary who was a putin apologist. LITERALLY. MANY WERE SHOT. All the JEWS were murdered or sent off in trains to concentration camps. Eastern Ukraine, the Donbast is an area of shifting borders and mixed cultures and lots of ethnic Russians there and Ukrainians Jews there remember the POGROMS TOO FROM Moscow. BUT IN 1991 Ukraine gave up its own nukes in agreement with Moscow to protect them. INSTEAD they were hoodooed and Moscow invaded. BUT I know a lot about Ukraine (dont ask) and in Canada too.....and the sad PREJUDICE Canadians showed them.....and many Canadians didnt really understand what went on...but trust me when I say, 90% of Ukrainian Nazis were from Western Ukraine (Eastern Ukraine was more Jewish and More Russian Orthodox) and had a GUN TO THE HEAD....serve or be shot. They have no border with Germany but a large one with Poland and knew what happened in Poland. And Sudetenland (Czech Republic now) and had no choice. Whereas the Nazis in Argentina were mostly GERMANS who escaped and through the secret conclaves of the Vatican, often disguised as priests and nuns.....and some of them were authentic Nazis and war criminals. and some went to Brazil. I have a lot of empathy for Ukrainians and their plight for CENTURIES....I have more stories but not here and not now.
