Thomas Sowell, one of the wisest men on the planet IMHO, stated 50 years ago that liberals would take over America through the education system. The liberals realized it would take decades, but they had the patience to implement their plan.

“And where did Ms. Clinton get the idea that free speech should be limited to what she thought was correct, stifling all further discussion? She got it in school! “.

You’re not going to give her parents any credit?

How can he? They weren’t around when she was growing up…too busy politicking or feathering their nest with fat speaking/book fees.

Is Chelsea Clinton any different than say, LeBron (B with a cap) James, who likes to "use his platform" compliments of fame, fortune, and media? People can be influenced to believe anything. If we'd stop using our iPhones as pacifiers, and maybe talk to each other, these people would not be relevant. Ms. Clinton toes the party line. How utterly boring.

I love free speech, but it has, like everything else become very expensive and mostly rare.

Did you really mean to say that Russia never did anything to harm the US? I can take hyperbole as well as the next guy, but "never?" Tell me what I'm missing.

Hi Bill, Thanks for your thoughts and comments event though they are mostly nonsense. What harm has Chelsea Clinton ever done to you? You say money is your beat, so you should be glad that she is making some money. How much money does your ranch make? Not much I think!

My granny used to say "people who live in glass houses should not throw stones" Was she right?

Regards, Charlie

Bill, don't waste your time and ours on Ms. clinton. She's the least of our problems. Try taking digs at a few more Republicans.

When I was studying at Oxford (1995-1999) I remember seeing Chelsea Clinton sunbathing on the lawn at New College. She was surrounded by her entourage -- eminently unapproachable. Immediately I felt a guilty antipathy towards her: I would never be part of her circle or one of her kind. Now I still feel that antipathy towards her, but no guilt for feeling it; and fortunate that I don't move in those circles.

Bill, you've got to be kidding. Chelsea Clinton! Besides you, how many people in the real world give a crap what she thinks or says. Here's how you describe her:

"She is one of a whole class – or caste – of ‘western,’ globally-minded, well educated, privileged people – many of whom have never worked for a real business or made a payroll or satisfied a customer. That is, they have never actually ‘given’ anything to anyone that would entitle them to receive anything in return."

"They may have no idea how the real world works… and yet, they think they know what is best for everyone."

You just described a million other people as well. All having a right to voice their opinion.

I think Bills general point was their undue unqualified influence gets legitimized just because of their pedigree, rather than anything of value they bring.

I agree with your assessment but it's the media (like Bill) who latch on to or add their interpretation to the "elites" comments in order to create "news" and make money for themselves by doing so, unfortunately there are followers as Bill calls them that don't understand it's just an opinion of a person with no authority.

Most Fox watchers, and certainly Tucker's fanboys, have been conditioned to hate democracy and to believe in authoritarian, brute-force, powerful state rule: a police state is, in fact, precisely what they desire. When these types yip about "freedom," all they mean is the freedom of the state to brutalize and harm the people they hate.

This is why DeSantis is a rising star in the Republican Party. He's already brought nascent fascism to Florida---a state where there are now ThoughtCrimes and election police and laws empowering citizens to assault dissenters without penalty. The state's Republican voters are as excited as any German mob at Nuremberg.

One of the benefits of Substack as I see it is that 92.37% of the commenters are not stupid. I can't tell in many other forums as the comments are edited to cater to the 7.63% who agree with the narrative.

I have read Mr. Bonner's Diary for some years, and occasionally find a new idea, but more often find a reminder of something I have neglected. With no Economics or PoliSci background it is useful to have a brief daily dose of that universe, and the stories are often amusing and thought-provoking. I value that far more than being told what or how to think.

Your comments are interesting and protect us from the sins of confirmation bias and selection bias. Your world experience is vastly different than Mr. Bonner's or mine, and is valuable for that. It does not require antagonism, it is a valuable point of view. Ostriches may ignore you and keep their heads buried.

I "confess" to having read Ayn Rand in my impressionable days, and forming a cynical assessment of government. Also, like Mr. Bonner, I have lived in a protected and ostensibly "free" situation for most of my life- the past two years and certainly the "Emergencies Act" in February have disabused me of my naïveté.

The other problem is the vast amount of information, and viewpoint, and prejudices in the world. The information which is not transformed through knowledge to wisdom is counterproductive. Mr. Bonner does quite well- can you get there?

This need to control what every one thinks, to make sure only people who agree with our own view, are allowed to express it, is the source of lot of conflict. It is part of human nature, but in a civilized society we must be willing to hear and understand the view point of those who do not have same opinion as us ,and try to understand why they think so. If we refuse to do that then there is no alternative to constant conflict and destruction as we are witnessing in this current war. Just saying that all the Russians deserve to suffer the economic melt down that the West has brought on them, just because Putin is their leader, is like saying all Americans need to be punished because they elected Joe Biden as their leader. Not all people support Biden or Putin and most have no say in their leaders decisions, but that is the state of affairs, in these times. I only hope some reason will prevail in the end but at present seems highly unlikely. Raj

The incompetence of our leaders is amazing and this whole war should not have started in the first place . In the end all the little people, who have no say, pay the ultimate price, and not the so called oligarchs. Only time will tell if this works but so far the sanctions have never worked to acopmlish the desired outcome.
