Bill,this series on AI is very interesting and thought provoking. At the root,boiled down,I think it leads to the pride of man thinking he can create on a level with God. What folly that is. I’m constantly reminded of Romans 1:22 which states “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”
We should never forget the reason we were created and that is to give God our creator glory. This is the same God we will at some point ,after our brief stint on earth stand before and give account of our life on earth. When improved versions are combined with Know Nearly All computers that we call AI, then it makes me wonder when humans will be replaced by humanoids.
Certainly, sometime this century, these man-made machines -- robots -- will become smarter than any human alive or ever will be.
These humanoids will make redundant a vast array of the services and creations that our species now provides or produces.
Consequently, it's not inconceivable that these machines, which by then, will look, speak and feel like us, but never get sick or sleep and able to travel to distant planets without the need for food and water, will negate the need for humans.
Nevertheless, I suspect we'll endure but only a very small sampling as curiosities protected in zoos or as pampered pets.

Who is to say that what we call artificial intelligence isn’t life? It requires energy, just like “life” does, it may one day have the capability of reproducing itself, and it moves in the physical environment. Life is composed of atoms that are organized in highly complex systems, so is AI. One could argue that AI does not have a soul like a human does, if you believe that sort of thing; but what the heck, neither does my cat according to believers, in which case I’d argue my cats soul is purer than most. Maybe we will reach the stars, just not in our present forms.

(It's not what the crowd wants to hear) But deep down, something doesn't feel right or good about this AI thing, especially when it comes to surveillance and etc.
Sometimes I wonder what it must have been like to be a prophet in Israel like a 3000 yrs ago. Most of the world thought they 'knew' what was going on around them. Even very brilliant and powerful men. Only a very few, sometimes, only one man actually saw the scenes as they truly were. And the crowds hated him. Stoned him. True, he had a word from God himself, but sometimes I wonder how much similarity there is today. A few men like Bill and his team, see the picture much more clearly than we give them credit for. I don’t mind Bill wasting my time reading drivel, after all I am a junkie to his written word as are many of his subscribers. I am also pleased that he has spared us his political claptrap given that he seems to lean a bit left in his prose. I, also, put little significance in his ”assessment” on AI given his speculation serves as warnings for something that may not happen; although, his dire predictions may happen along side the positive aspects of AI that one hopes comes from it. AI’s inevitable insertion into this world’s existence will greatly affect everything we know about today. Will it be bad? Most certainly for someone. Will it be a boon for humanity? Most certainly for some folks. Will it be the end of civilization and the beginning of the Matrix? Hopefully not, but certainly not in my lifetime. Beyond that, the responsibility to manage AI falls on our children and more likely our grandchildren. Given that the vast majority of the US youth accept technology as a plus in their lives, I suspect they will walk into the AI-dominated world with both eyes wide open. I also suspect they are not reading the sage, Bill Bonner. Better widen your audience, Bill, or your words of warning will end up in the electronic trash can.
Where did you get this information, specifically about GROK. Iran is not sophiticated enough to use AI. They could get targeting info from any mapping software such as Google Earth.
Also, the Internet was down in Iran since almost the start of bombing.
