Those who loaded $36 trillion of debt onto the backs of Americans now promise to make them rich by taxing foreigners. Those who squandered enough money to build every family in America a new home.
Got good news this morning that Bill should approve of. Trump is getting rid of government DEI counselors. Biden padded his employment numbers by expanding the Fed govt on the backs of tax payers with no benefit.
The news would be a lot better if the DEI counselors were being fired. Instead, they are being put on paid leave. The cost is still there, but they're not doing anything. Lose-lose.
As a retired DOD employee you are correct for now. It is almost impossible to fire a federal employee after their first year of service. I saw it all from a guy who downloaded porn after work and earned overtime. SO many women and minorities who management was afraid to pursue firing or even punishment for egregious actions. Don't miss it at all. AFter obama it became unbearable as only women and minorities were promoted and everything went to h-ll.

Schedule F refers to an executive order issued by Donald Trump in October 2020 that aimed to reclassify certain federal employees, making it easier to dismiss them by removing their civil service protections. This order was rescinded by President Biden but has been discussed for reinstatement in a potential future Trump administration.
Entirely fair commentary Bill. Politicos, masters of finance and CEO's would I'm sure not approve as their game is one of confidence not reality.
I've put my money on reality having its way eventually and am simply amused by all the ding dongs that think you can build a growth machine on a foundation made with nothing but debt. What a circus... until the "government" is removed from constantly interfering in our economy, our markets, our lives we will continue to suffer an endless stream of fools.
Truly insightful Liberty. Nothing else matters. If Elizabeth Warren is involved it will be going down the same road that got us to here. The key is to CUT government drastically.

You are right. Capitalism is a technical description of free markets whereas the free-market name alludes to a moral description. The word Capitalism is often misunderstood and that's why we have people calling it, in some cases, Crony Capitalism (which is not Capitalism), Democratic Capitalism, etc. There is no such thing. People would realize the contradiction if you substitute free market for the word Capitalism (crony free market doesn't work because the contradiction is obvious). Capitalism, or free markets, only occur when people are free (have the right to their life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness). All other systems are orchestrated from the top down. Free markets materialize spontaneously when freedom exists.
Not sure why you care if someone prefers the term "free market" over "capitalism". They are the same thing but the term, "capitalism", is not self-evident and needs to be explained, whereas "free market" is self-explanatory as least to some extent. I'm only saying that the unsophisticated American understands the term "free market" more accurately and can be confused by rhetoric distorting what Capitalism actually means. Both can be explained using the same language except that many of those profound economic thinkers defended Capitalism on utilitarian grounds, not moral grounds. Why do you think there are so many people who support socialism? They consider it morally superior and therefore ignore all the economic arguments for capitalism. It took Ayn Rand to defend Capitalism on moral terms in many of her essays (including her book, "Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal") and her novel, "Atlas Shrugged".
We agree on the problems, but differ on the solution.
Do you support Mr. Trump's reversing the LGBQXYZ+++ confusion in government documents? I suspect we both do.
Why not just let the effete rich and other enemies to the common man redefine the language(s) for their own personal graft -- UNchallenged.

CAPITAL is the word that has lasted hundreds of years.
1828 WEBSTER DICTIONARY: CAPITAL stock, is the sum of money or stock which a merchant, banker or manufacturer employs in his business; either the original stock, or that stock augmented. Also, the sum of money or stock which each partner contributes to the joint fund or stock of the partnership; also, the common fund or stock of the company, whether incorporated or not.
2025 AMERICAN HERITAGE DICTIONARY: CAPITAL, 2. a. Wealth, especially in the form of financial or physical assets, used in the production or accumulation of more wealth.
Wow I didn't expect such a long thread on this topic - bravo!
I dislike the term Capitalism because it's a typical "ism" that's been obfuscated and politicized to the point where it has lost its original meaning, just like its stepbrothers socialism, communism, fascism and hell including even antisemitism, racism, and so on.
To me, the term "free market" best captures the idea of the voluntary (free) exchange of goods and services between individuals (market). Most everyone understands (and embraces) the term "free" and also knows what a "market" is, but if you ask these same everyones to define Capitalism you are bound to get a word salad response.
Capital is income that you save for it to make more money for you, rather than spending it all on today, or on down payments to enslave you and your children tomorrow.
Capitalism is about saving money and providing service.
Let's take the beautiful, powerful word back, teach it to our children AND our enemies - both in its definition and in practice.
As usual some of you comments are B.S. I’m not going to comment as I have done this many times in th past. I do want to comment on Elizabeth Warren. She is one of many politicians that are and have been corrupt for many years. Like the pediphile who works in a children’s school. She comes up with rules and regulations to cover her corruption. Next, I think that lobbyists and lobbying should be banned. I have not read that this administration promises homes for everyone by receiving funds from foreigners. Again, give this administration a chance. AP
You are correct. Warren says she is for the free market and then wants to modify it in many ways to her liking, which is not the free market. But I would say that lobbyists are not the problem, government power is. Severely limit how the government can interfere in our lives and in the economy so that the politicians are prevented from doing just about anything to interfere, including regulations and dispensing favors etc. Only then will the lobbyists be gone as there would be no reason to defend their interests or ask for favors.
Your passion is unmistakable, but let us consider the nature of power itself. Take Robert Moses, the so-called "master builder" of New York, as written about by Pulitzer Prize winning author, Robert A. Caro. He reshaped an entire city, often without regard for public input or the human cost, wielding authority that grew unchecked over decades. His story is a reminder: power consolidates and self-perpetuates, often creating the very problems it claims to solve.
The question is not whether corruption exists but how to disperse power so it cannot corrupt so absolutely.
The real problem is the Fed printing more dollars with each new dollar having to steal its value from existing dollars.. The want to call it inflation but truly it's devaluing. Let's see the Fed's mandate is 2% a year. 54 years since we went off gold. 2 % for 54 years. 108%. Sounds about right. considering we have had bouts of devaluing off and on. In 1986, I was a broker and we all got a magazine called "The Registered Representative", and there was a nice chart where it showed the value of the dollar was 49%. The Fed allows an unlimited credit card. They never have to pay off the balance. Well I think times are a changin'.
$36 trillion debt is a bi-partisan achievement, don’t expect the creators of this debt to solve it. Quote from HL Mencken: “for every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong “.
100% correct. And, there is more and more "talk" of bringing back manufacturing to the U.S. Well, with the BIG push on AI, it won't bring back jobs unless, of course, you are a robot or drone. Nothing here Making America Great Again. Don't see anything focused on jobs or reducing spending. I suspect spending will just be shifted to some other boondoogle. Don't see anything about reducing bases overseas. Jobs, Upgrading the Infrastructure, and Balancing the Budget - Nope - Not hearing anything on those yet. Seems the more things change, the more they stay the same. Different "Management" just seems to mean Different "Elites" reap the benefit. As the old saying goes - "Nothing to see here, move along."
I have to agree with you. As much as I think, we need manufacturing to come back home.I do not see where it's visible in many industries. Play rent tensive industries like textiles, footwear et cetera. This country was built on those industries but I recall one I was in high school.A pair of blue jeans at the gap got up to sixty five dollars. All union shops here in the country. Completely ridiculous. When Walmart started outsourcing, they went down to his ten dollars. Is lower weight denham to be sure. Neither end of this continuum is where we need to be. Vital industries do need to be protected If only for national defense. The biggest problem I see is labor. We have no labor. We don't have enough to run.Basic service companies let dome operate the manufacturing facilities that we need. It can be fixed over time, but don't set your watch by it. Instead, and in the meantime, and instead, we should move this production to friendly countries .
Well, I certainly agree with Bonner's criticism of Elizabeth Warren, one of the shrillest voices in Congress. But he is off the mark when he writes that the people calling for sane policies now were the same ones that were feeding off government largesse. Maybe some, no doubt, because that was how the system was rigged. But the others that hate free markets are still there. Instead, this is a triumph of a free market and individual rights respecting ideology, not perfectly, but a step in the right direction. The Democrats might cooperate to some small extent especially on the issues that the American people overwhelmingly disagreed with them, but they are still there calling out for their progressive fascist nihilist anti-energy, anti-production, welfare state ideology, although not so loudly. They've been silenced to some extent. Let's see how long that lasts. So, this is a triumph of people with free market ideas (however imperfectly) over those with statist government power ideas, not the latter switching sides.
NO POSITIVITY ALLOWED, NOR CAN YOU ACKNOWLEDGE ANY STEPS -IN-THE-RIGHT-DIRECTION with regard to what Bonner has been telling us we need to do for years. Further, if a position, declaration or action is not PERFECT, it must be disparaged and impugned. Those rules also seem to apply to many of the posters here who are true leftists but won't acknowledge that fact because they still have a wisp of Morality in their souls...
I experience Bill's columns as related primarily to the financial decline of the U.S., precipitated by elected officials who are dipping their snouts into the trough while ensuring that their backers get what they want from the system. As problematic as that is, I wonder if the pardons issued by Biden and Trump are a greater threat to the U.S. The pardons reflect a level of hypocrisy and cynicism that is mind-boggling and corrosive. When accountability for criminal behavior is waived for those serving the needs/purpose of sitting Presidents, will that lead to police being asked to stand down, (or voluntarily stepping aside), while jackboots go after those who don't do a President's bidding? What's the incentive to become a law enforcement officer if a President effectively says that you are fair game for his supporters? How is this any better than defunding the police, sanctuary cities and open borders?

There should be big cuts in every agency. We need to stop the Democrat's employment program. It was artificial, like everything else they proposed. It looked good to the BLM but like every private company worker knows, too many employees just creates extra costs and operations can almost always be run more efficiently with less.
Get in where you think it's appropriate and get some bag. This thing has quite a bit of surge still coming before it hits the wall - thanks to DJT's election and the temporary return to Sanity...
