P.S. Fun fact: Bill began working on the first edition of his new book while I was in London in 2017. He wrote to me, asking if I could write his monthly newsletter while he finished the book. That’s how The Bonner-Denning Letter came to be. And that evolved into our collaboration with Tom Dyson and later Joel Bowman to become Bonner Private Research, which you’re reading now. A ‘win-win’ deal in action!
We began writing Win-Win, or Lose in 2017. A lot has happened since then. But nothing that upset or disproved our point: that the essential element of civilization is the "win-win" deal. It works in business, in marriage, and in the rest of life. You give...and you get. You smile and you say "thank you."
Win-win deals have the approval of both parties. Typically, but not always, they make both better off. And when the government steps in -- with taxes, regulations, sanctions or war -- the nature of the deal changes. It becomes a win-lose deal...and most people will be on the losing end.
By 2022, ‘Win-Win, or Lose’ was looking more and more prophetic. Things evolved more or less as we imagined they would. Inflation was up. Growth was down. And the population was growing sour. So, we thought it was time for an update.
The book was never really distributed outside our circle of newsletter readers. So, we thought it was time for a re-launch. This time, we would take the book -- via John Wiley & Sons -- to the mass market of bookstores and maybe to the New York Times "Bestseller" lists. We don't expect much praise from the reviewers, however. They are part of the elite we criticize. But we want to see how the public reacts; it may give us a clue as to what happens next.
We read over Chapter 7 -- now updated -- last night. It does a fair job of explaining why our money system fails. It also gives broad hints as to where we are headed. In any event, we enjoyed writing it. And then, we enjoyed reading.
We hope you do too.
Bill
