Whether it be tariffs and price floors or taxing the rich and City run grocery stores, both parties ignore Reagan’s timeless message: Government is the problem, not the solution.

Unfortunately Ronnie and his team helped explode the national debt. Even under his administration the government was the problem. For example, Iran-Contra and the CIA's trafficking of crack to the inner cities. Or billions spent in useless wars in Central America. Like all politicians Ronnie talked the talk but didn't walk the walk.

Agreed. But wouldn't it be nice to elect a politician who not only talked a good game about the growth of the federal government but actually did something about it?

Seriously. Now is it the voters fault? Our choices Trump or Harris? That's it! Glad to finally understand the only ones to blame is ourselves. So glad to finally have that cleared up. Why it is so simple - its OUR FAULT! Reagan was wrong - the problem is not the Government - it is US! Wow! What a whirlwind Friday. LOL!

Blame the individual politicos if you want...

But somehow they keep getting into office...

Regan was right, the problem is the government, but then again... Regan was the gov't.

Lincoln said "We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the Courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who would pervert the Constitution"

Apparently the "We the People" aren't doing our job...

You can ponder as to why.

Seems to me the problem stems from the only intellectual prerequisite required to vote is the ability to hold a crayon.

There are many types of war and currently the TACO Clown is using them all. Trump started economy wars with the entire world with his tariffs and sanctions craziness. Continued wars in Gaza, Ukraine, and other countries through the CIA and other affiliates. Supports genocide by the Israelis and backstabbed Iran when days before a negotiation supported the assassination of military, scientific, and innocent family members in Iran. Then "bombed" Iran when Israel was about to go under. He continues his economy wars partially hard against Russia, China, Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran while escalating tariffs and sanctions on any country that buys anything from anyone he doesn't like. Doesn't follow international law or give a damn about any moral ethics. China has over 370 naval ships versus less than 300 for the U.S. Plus China produces over 1000 ships while the U.S. barely manages to produce 10. There is so few including more than 1/2 of Americans that don't trust the U.S. Government. The "Loss of Trust" in the U.S. Government and Trump is historic and horrific beyond comparison. See the Epstein files - Oh, no - and everyone knows why - he is in them! Report on the gold in Fort Knox - Oh, no - wouldn't be prudent. China has over 35,000 metric tons and the U.S. ????? Gold is becoming the world currency and the U.S. ain't got any. Happy Friday!

BB-I have 3 comments. 1. Give credit to the Byrds in 1965 they sand turn turn turn. 2. War is hell and should never happen (greed-power hunger-jealousy). 3. World War One was caused by military buildup, rival alliances, imperialistic ambitions, nationalist tensions and the catalyst was the assasination of Franz Ferdinand. Governments are to blame for most problems caused in our world.

"Europe’s most costly war — World War One — was begun for no particular reason...continued only because it had begun...and ended only when Germany was too exhausted to continue. What was the point? No one knows."

The point was the complete and total destruction of Germany and the genocide of its people. WWII was meant to finish the job, including a complete post-war culling of the German citizens. But saner heads prevailed although Germany today is an embarrassing shell of its former self. Who was behind this agenda? You know who...

Not sure I accept that WWI was started for no particular reason. The leaders had reasons. They didn't tell the people the truth as to why they started the war. I'm just guessing given the fact that the EU wants war now, in Ukraine: They wanted to retain their power. That's pretty obvious because these EU leaders won't leave office even when voted out, they have a different idea as to what is best for society. We are led by psychopaths and as many others point out indirectly in this comment section, society follows them.

When one looks in an overall way the US has the only constitution that is supposed to give power to the people but it just can't seem to actually accomplish that objective. Again, the leaders, which mankind likes to follow, till they realize it is a mistake.

We have public policies. But they don’t have to be inescapable. What matters is having the right leaders who are willing to make difficult choices.

In our beautiful, sometimes strange, but ultimately wonderful country of Canada, back in the 1990s, government leaders (including the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister) decided the Canada Pension Plan would be better off if its investment arm operated at arm’s length from political control.

So they created the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB). It began operations around 1999, with just $12.1 million transferred initially.

Over time, more contributions flowed and a governance framework was established.

Fast forward to today: the fund’s net assets are about $714 billion.

Over its operating life, it has delivered average annual returns in the high single digits (recently about 8.3 % annualized over 10 years)

Meanwhile, in public service, the Prime Minister earns approximately CAD $419,600 annually.

The CEO of CPPIB draws a multi-million compensation package (including bonuses and incentives) in excess of CAD $6,000,000 annually.

To me, the contrast is stark — but it gives me hope. With leadership that respects public capital as much as private capital, we might see even more bold reforms, not less.

Great question: Why do we do it to ourselves? Is it an ever-present tendency of human nature to hate or is it the religion we are raised with that declares “our” superiority and need to convert all others even as our conversion “technique”(making war) destroys us! As one who “served” in Chile as a missionary (of the “one true church”) and has traveled fairly extensively since, I believe our fundamental national policy problem source to be monotheism, which, if it doesn’t mandate hate of others, it’s a belief that certainly encourages it. Our very holy “leader”is so proud to Trumpet frequently and loudly his monotheistic beliefs while simultaneously making crystal clear his hatred for and desire to destroy his perceived enemies! These, btw, include—and this should scare any and all of his current followers—former close associates and friends!

Polytheistic and even atheistic societies seem much more able to integrate new beliefs with those they were raised with. CHINAPHOBE ALERT!!!;

After 3000+ years of basically rejecting what became and still is the Judeo-Christian (monotheistic) warmongering model of “neighbor interaction, “with”their neighbors, China in 1980 was even able to accept and implement a free enterprise economic system which ran 180 degrees counter to its existing political and economic doctrines.

Today, as a direct result of reconsidering dangerous dogmatism and of being unafraid to contemplate the type of questions Bill is asking us, China is booming and able to spread wealth quite equally among more than 50 significant language and ethnic groups and assemble 180 votes in the UN. In the meantime “American” “natives” live in isolated and often deplorable circumstances and our religion-cultivated superiority complex has us 1) struggling to assemble more than 2 votes in the UN and 2) now teetering on the verge of a 1930’s depression. Contrary to Bill’s conclusion I consider this government’s one honest act to be the naming of its most important and biggest agency for exactly what it has always been since 1950: Department of War. An equally honest name change from USA to USFH (United States of Fear and Hatred) is needed to even more honestly state the truth!

You’re right! I arrived as a college grad among about 100 younger missionaries frantically baptizing dirt poor Chileans who believed anything we said and, as the nicest people on earth, believed anything we said just because we were “Americanos”. Those enthusiastic youngsters and members created the highest Mormon percentage of national population of any country in the world (about 7%) except some island in Micronesia. Yes I rebelled against the racism, lack of concern for the Chilean missionaries (only allowed to do construction work—the lowest status work in Chile at the time), etc. As punishment for my non-conformity I was placed second in command of the non-existent Boy Scout program. By linking with USAID, Chile’s train system, the military, and national reforestation project, our group received a commendation from President Eduardo Frei for planting the most trees (some 100,000?) of any organization. The Boy Scouts provided much of the Church leadership for the next 40-50. Yes, you’re right, Mike, I still reject the inherent superiority and racism of the Mormons and Judeocristianity in general.
