As a Canadian who has spent most of my life living a mile across the river from Detroit, Michigan I have watched the many changes in that city including the pre and post Trump eras.

Keeping in mind that it is a predominately African American population. pre Trump was far more dangerous and inhospitable and almost always I would head to the suburbs to avoid being mugged or accosted in some manner to do what I wanted. It was gradual but after Trump came into the presidency I had no concerns and watched as the social tone improved and it felt very different after 4 years of his presidency.

I believed then and still do that he is a narcissist but his heart was in the right place and his intentions were honorable and those people knew it.

Would that we in Canada had someone like him and I understand why the little guy liked him.

"We don’t know. But it would have been a hoot to watch." Well, yes, sorta. It already was a hoot, but in the scenario you suggested it would NOT have been a hoot to watch the possible assassination you proposed!

Another objection to what you wrote: you said, "But the elite were hysterical. Every possible argument was used against Trump. He was a womanizer. He was a failed developer. He was a phony. The press gnawed away on the charges like a dog with a bone." All true. But i have been reading you for a couple of decades, and you were a big part of the attack squad against Donald Trump. I distinctly recall your attacks on all of those shortcomings, as well as a lot of others. You were a big part of the attacking elite; now you are unhappy with the world thou hast wrought (or been partially responsible for creating.) Just sayin'...

By attacking Trump in such an unbalanced manner, you bear significant culpability for the election of Biden, along with all the accoutrements. Yes, Bill Bonner bears Biden blame!

A speech like that would have gotten him assassinated . . . after they threw acid in Malania's face.

Exactly! Well written Mr. Bonner! What a nightmare America has become. I truly believe Donald (just an ordinary name we call him, (for he is a lack of anything) would have most definitely been assassinated, and he knew it!

Would be a great speech, but Congress would override a veto of their spending bills. Then they would impeach him{look at what happened with a phone call}. Our country is now addicted to virtual money. Cutting the military spending would be seen as caving in to our 'enemies', when in fact we are our own worst enemies.

A majority of American adults are so weak or so addicted to “free stuff” that assassination would probably not be necessary. So I agree with you: Congress would be so confident in this weakness, that overriding his veto, then removing him, would be a no-brainer. Now a present-day Paul Volcker might actually be assassinated. When Paul Volcker dramatically pushed up interest rates, men were men and women were men. The folks running private and public things, as well as those citizens of middle-age, were tough hombres, having survived a depression, WWII, and Korea. I was a young baby-boomer child of those kind of people.

So, what you’re saying is, all the Trump rhetoric was a smoke screen. A shiny object , if you will, to distract the people from what was really happening. What about all his bloviating in regards to NATO, & other nations paying their fare share? I think American politics is, on all sides, is disgusting! An absolute disgrace. There is no easy solution, but a few quick points …

1) term limits (never happen)

2) public servants (politicans) SERVE the public , not get rich off them. So minimum wage for ALL OF THEM. If their interests lie in America with the American people, they will work for us not for wages and lifetime of free health care !

3) Eliminate lobbyists

4) qualify people for roles. NO MORE NEPOTISM.

5)No more budgets that aren’t balanced

I can go on. But seems common sense no longer exists.

Thanks for always providing thought provoking

Liars lying to the gullible. We the people have become a nation of fools who believe just about anything tossed out into the news.

Uneducated. Stupid. Faith based idiots. There are still people who believe, for instance, that America is the richest, freest, benevolent nation the world has ever known.

What can you expect of such a nation?

Our greatest accomplishment is incarcerating more people per capita than any other nation in the world. Our nation has a terrible and expensive health care system. We are far down on the scale of nations in infant mortality. America is the greatest debtor of any nation in world history.

Yeah, we are number one for sure. It is no wonder people are pissed off. But they keep thinking that voting will take care of the problems. That the promises will all come true. And angels are real! Bill, America is not just in trouble. We are bound for dissolution of the republic and extreme violence. People's pain is real. The lies being told will not fix the core problem.

The core problem is that our people are incredibly gullible and stupid. That won't be resolved in a year or a decade. When the Empire completely fails and we are all digging through garbage dumps to find food and things to sell, maybe, just maybe, there will be an epiphany of sorts.

Maybe a revolution. I do not know. What I know is we have to stop believing that America is the greatest. It isn't. Once we see that truth the solution might be found. Until then, well, we are on the road to collapse and dictatorship.

The America I knew and loved and was willing to die for does not exist anymore.

Greed and selfishness have undone this nation. Have undone you and I.

When this nation is dead and gone (and it is close now) we will wonder what we could have done to save it. Writing letters and talking will not save this nation.

Nope.

So, what will? Not gated communities. Not private schools. Not a solid stock and bond portfolio.

You know what it will take. But no one dares say it. That would get one labelled a domestic terrorist.

OK. I am done.

Aloha from Hawaii.

Tom

Though you might be right about what is wrong with America, the Ideals that are what America really is are not what caused the rot and decline. In fact, it was the departure from the practice of the truly American Ideals that has wrought the maladies you cite. Limited government, adherence to the U.S. Constitution and an informed citizenry didn't cause any of the problems we now face.

Bill, please comment on Paul Krugman's nutcase article in the Times saying printing press money is not happening!

You are absolutly right, that is the speech we needed. I fear it is too late for America and we will become another France who thinks we are still important while China has the world Currency, is the leading nation in the world and we are broke.

Yeah, the Donald went in like Teddy Bullmoose, and turned into Franklin Delano.

Do you know the joke about the newly-inaugurated president and his first briefing by the chiefs of staff? The punchline is: "Any questions?"

We all know now that Trump could not have given that speech - ever. I could not vote for Donald or Hillary, but for a few weeks after the 2016 election, I hung on to hope that he would upset the apple cart. However, as he showed us for his entire term how unfit he was for the office, I could only hope he would be shown out of the White House as soon as possible. I still hope someone emerges from this shitshow of a democracy who could give that speech in 2025.

I would like you to comment on Dr Malone’s discussion on Mass Psykosis Formation and the recent articles by Wall Street on Parade regarding the wallstreet banks getting trillions of $ in loans from the New York Fed. Did you know?

Trump lowered taxes and gave more money to the Pentagon. A recipe for more deficit for USA.

Yes - a hoot to watch. I have commented a few times on why didn't he just tell people the truth as you articulated.
