Is it cultural or just doing the best with what you have? In North Dakota it can be -40 in the winter and we all live...even cows. Right now, it is 106 and there have been no heat related deaths. Not even cows. I guess we figured out long ago that the government won't heat us in the winter or cool us in the summer. We just have to succeed in the life that we've been given to live...and we do.
It's misleading to compare a small island nation whose population -- including Northern Ireland -- is roughly the same as the population of the Washington DC metropolitan area.
The two populations are as different as night is from day.
The Irish one is ancient, homogeneous, Christian, English speaking, Caucasian.
The US one is the opposite of all that defines the Irish one. The singular exception is the Irish insist on driving on the wrong side of the road
I agree with Angry below. Also, a key difference in the two countries is we spend a TON OF MONEY on defense where the folks in Ireland DON'T. The socialist here would like to change where we spend the money but then they would cry when we couldn't defend ourselves.
Excuse me, Jim. No, the U.S. doesn't spend alot of money on "defense". Remember it is now the "War Department". No more defense - all the U.S. does is start wars, assassination leaders the government doesn't agree with, and subside genocides by Israel. As to wars started - seems they just can't finish them. Saying it is "defensive" is just propaganda from this ol' man's view.
Some of the American socialist projects are very weird and would be considered totally insane in Europe for example state subsidised grocery stores and (according to the Stansberry book) the socially engineered mortgage underwriting based on the idea of ensuring inclusive access: which is almost too stupid to be believable.
I wont argue with Bill on his TDS or such On vaca But Dano spot on today and again what cnbc FoxBiz and Bloomberg dont discuss All perma bulls Lotsa bulls means lotsa bullshit Yup Dano right Buy gold Hold Do not sell
In the article, following the comment on 10 year bond rates, you give the interest rate on 1 year bonds. Is that a typo or are you comparing apples to oranges?

Yes... it's cultural.
But not the kind that wears silly hats or engages in cultural dances...
-
It's the culture of no family and no education...
Being a thug is cool, being a contributor to society is a patsy.

Funny how Mr. Bonner assumed there were no poor just because there are no crappy yards.
Being poor does not make one disorderly and sloppy.
Being disorderly and sloppy makes one poor...
Methinks Bill is having fun tweaking his readers.

Well reasoned my friend and without the benefit of scapegoating prejudice or bias, cultural or otherwise.

There is no free lunch anywhere in the world.

Jim, I would be interested to know which wars of the recent past actually had anything to do with defending us.
I presume that by "recent" you mean in the last 75 (or 85?) years.
