Mr. Trump, on this issue you must put aside your ego, read the room and 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚. Your immediate actions of the last few days do NOT do that, this is NOT what we voted for and this is NOT the way to Prosperity. We were repeatedly told last year that the battle would be in March. Well, we're here and you have the gall to tell us now the battle will be in September.

Forget that - DO WHAT YOU SAID YOU WOULD DO! I'm smelling Betrayal - by a LOT of two-faced rats. And I'm not alone.

You should be standing beside Tom Massie on the Capitol steps RIGHT NOW, insisting on immediate cuts to the existing CR or shut the whole criminal, corrupt circus down - NOT throwing idiotic threats and 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 to continue 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴-𝗶𝗻-𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 all of the theft and fraud Musk and Team have uncovered.

I was told by commenters here yesterday that I needed to be patient and essentially "Trust the Plan" (where have we heard THAT before, Mr. Q?) I've been "patient" for 58 years - I call 'em like I see 'em, with Objectivity, Logic and Critical Thinking. Let others be the sycophants and "yes" men/women. From here in Realville, it sure looks like we are getting royally screwed, folks - and this morning, I think our dear departed Mayor would agree....

Ol' Starboard, you are beginning to sound like Ol' Bill or his ghost writer. Frankly, I am 100% with you. And, you are still a youngster. Good to see there are those of Gen X with their "Eyes Wide Open". Hey, SE. I'm with you ideologically. I just don't think it's easy to turn this huge ship around on a dime when it's been going in the wrong direction for close to 100 years and accelerating towards disaster for the last 20 years. I'm still willing to wait a few months before passing judgement. And I understand Massie's point of view - I just don't know if it's doable with such a narrow Republican majority. If Republicans had a much larger majority in both houses, then I would agree.

I hear you, John. I'm no where near giving up and realistically have nowhere else to go - but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. I just feel that we are at a crucial, vital point to take a stand on the spending. Like right now.

I agree that things won't happen fast due to a lot of different reasons, but we need to grab our "government" by the throat and start squeezing - NOW. Trump/Musk have the momentum in THIS moment - people are righteously outraged. Use that. On this issue, forget the murky "strategies", trading for future "favors" or trying to play "4-D Chess" (looking at YOU, Johnson & Thune.) We need to lay down the red line immediately and stick to it, come what may. Massie is the ONLY one with any Courage out of 535 "leaders" - Trump needs to join him bigly, not throw immature threats his way.

𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗘 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗡𝗢𝗪, 𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗖𝗥 - then weather the immediate fall-out, but don't budge one single inch. The upcoming Budget Reconciliation process is the next battle we MUST NOT CEDE without a fight. It's surely NOT going to be easier to cut spending next May if we puss-out at this point and let the thieves continue their corruption in light of the revelations we have seen over the last 6 weeks...

John P Gallien's avatar

Well, I don't disagree, and I like your comment about squeezing the government by the throat. The only reason I hesitate and will give them a few more months to figure it out is because there are many Republicans who sincerely want to reduce government spending but, at the same time, are insisting they need a few months to figure out all the right actions they must take. If nothing happens in a few months' time, then I'm with you. So, we agree in principle, but not in timing.

Mackinac's avatar

Oh the illusions are so powerful. It took the country a couple years to figure out covid and the vaccines and then only half the country figured it out. Now whose fault is it that the stock market is collapsing? My suspicion is that greater than half the country will never figure that out, even though we've had 13-15 years to study the situation. But levered losses, I read of a lot of levered longs to the tune of $1 trillion, at a 20% drop will certainly force a few eyes to open and wake up a few Fed following "gurus." Seems to me there are plenty of chances for government to create undesirable effects. My bet is that Trump makes lots of "mistakes". But the current stock market collapse isn't one of them, in my opinion. There are two sides to every single story and hence in the end do you trust Trump or don't you? Is he trying to do what is best for America or not? America obviously believes Trump has integrity. He must decide to spend to keep the economy suspended for minuscule period of time (it wasn't ascertainable as to when the collapse would come) or cut spending to balance the budget and allow the economy to fall precipitously, which it is guaranteed to do anyway. Bill is in a no lose position: The chances are 99 to 1 that the economy will collapse, it's totally artificial while all the bets are long the economy. So by complaining about Trump he keeps us on the side of not laking the big loss. But we all just voted for Trump to remove the liars and their scams and corruption that is essential to remove if America is to survive as a working republic. It isn't a working republic now. Can we bring it back? Unfortunately we need a guy like Trump to fight the battles of right and wrong and take a beating for doing it. Trump is hard on the trail of correction but he is guaranteed to be wrong in most every step. Which is exactly why our politicians never did anything correctly in the first place. Now we have one guy, Massie, that will vote correctly on principle. Who knows what the best course of action is? Personally I'm with Massie, face the cutting process come what may. It's a lot easier to understand and moves in the right direction which we haven't done for 50 years.
