When I was a Petty Officer 2nd. Class Machinist's Mate in the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power program, every member of the Nuclear Power program had to read every incident report about mistakes made by Nuclear Power program sailors and initial each report.

Every lawmaker in Congress should have to initial each page of every law they vote on to show they read it.

Thank you Mr Denning for the (CR) continuing resolution link! Personally, I like reading these omnibus abominations. I always start by a quick doc search for the word “grant”. **My reason?**

485 mentions for grant counts here [https://docs.house.gov/billsthisweek/20241216/CR.pdf]

** Here are some other things to know about government grants**

• Grants are non-repayable funds, but they are not free money. You must spend the funds responsibly and according to the approved application.

• Grants are often short term, and when they run out, you have to start over.

• The government has strict regulatory and compliance requirements to ensure that the funds are spent properly.

• You must submit thorough records detailing how the grant was spent.

• Receiving a government grant can draw the attention of other potential sponsors or revenue sources.

In keeping with my previous pithy comment [©️ on Mr Bonner’s, “…the greasy ‘policy makers’ are…” I am going to use the heck outta that one]; the whole business of grants is a tax and spend racketeers windfall

• Most government grants are not for individuals, but rather for (NGO?) organizations and STATES… the serpent's of the district of corruption use their IRS collections grift to get tax money and gratuitously redistribute money.

I like what Byron said about having the elected dunces initial every page; which ought to slow their roll. Actually, the whole grants racket ought to be forbidden and made illegal (along with illegality for omnibus bills and CR’s) for the .gover’s to do. If the Vatican, META, Gates or Tractor Supply want to make grants…have at it and can use the same T&C’s.

We’ll see just how philanthropic the Vatican, META, Gates or Tractor Supply are with grants.

Cheers,

Mark

The more politicians that join the DOGE bandwagon the more it becomes a circus, but like I have said before, send in the clowns. Meme it to death. Assign a Minister of Silly Walks. Mock everything. Expose the waste, the fraud, the grifting with deadly parody. Create a new SNL dedicated to the task. Suit up The Babylon Bee. Make it a cottage industry.

Nothing changes in this world until it gets seriously laughed off the planet. That’s what happened to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Agree completely - but I will say that one BIG difference I'm seeing already is the level of TRANSPARENCY being shown in the early stages of DOGE. Problems/Waste being clearly identified and defined, the individuals doing the identifying, and draft proposals of rectifying actions are all being publicly offered for suggestions, appraisals and yes, ridicule if warranted. That alone portends a ton of 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 to actually have some success, IMO...

"Though Ramaswamy spoke in sweeping terms of cuts to come, enacting them may be harder. DOGE is not a formal government department and can only make recommendations.

It would be up to Trump and his Republican allies in Congress to try to enact them.

Business Insider's Jack Newsham reported last week that, with Republicans in control of both chambers, DOGE may have some success in cutting government spending and red tape.

Eliminating federal agencies could be a big ask, though. They're generally created by Congress and could require difficult votes to abolish"

Correct me if I am wrong but the initial funding for US government departments arises with the President sending a request to Congress for the funding?

In this case, what happens if the President does not do this?

Is this a back door for EM and VR?

Question about the DOGE gov.com site : Why are there so many articles referencing a doge tokens? What does this have to do with efficiency in government? Looks more like they are just pumping this "coin" or whatever it is.

StarboardEdge's avatar

The site is sponsored by the coin. As of yet I don't think there is an"official" site for the DOGE office. When there is, I will post it.

Regardless, the site cited (:)) DOES have some very interesting information about what DOGE (the department) is doing now...

Yes, I would agree. Of course it's a cheap way to pump their coin, they are sponsoring the site - welcome to Capitalism. I only put the link there because they link to other news sites that are writing articles about actions being taken by DOGE the department. Personally, I ignore everything related to the digital currency aspect. I'm just trying to find accurate information.

Further, I don't believe EM is doing any of this to "unload to the next fool in line", and couldn't care less if I'm wrong about that part. Buyer Beware and all...

Too many chefs spoil the soup, especially when the chefs' incomes depend on keeping the soup flowing, no matter how inedible it is. I suspect that Musk and Ramaswamy will let all this noise accumulate while they map out their equivalent of the Argentine crash diet and Twitter-to-X elimination of unnecessary functionality (no mass censorship-to-order divisions needed on a platform that facilitates free speech). The odds against their success are poor, but no other paths I've seen presented have better odds.

Hi FVM -

The "suck" is going to come when DOGE & Co. put in all the time, energy and effort to ID blatant waste and suggest viable ways to eliminate - then our worthless "legislators" refuse to step up and actually propose/approve any significant and necessary Change. This will allow our "media", crap politicians and lowlife bureaucrats to point the finger and gaslight about how much DOGE was a waste of time and how Elon and Vivek have failed, despite the fact that the Department can only present Evidence and make Recommendations. Assuredly our host will be a loud voice in that crowd.

Prepare for it - it's undoubtedly coming...

I prefer America of 1960. I was young; I discovered I was fortunate to be an American that the continent was filled with awesome beauty, and it had a wonderful history, a legacy passed down by millions who had struggled through the vagaries of life.

How fortunate I was.

Most of what I enjoy now existed… only less crowded and more gracious.

I can look around, today, and marvel at the wonders.

Warts and all, a wondrous place.

The national hymn seems to be “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” I glory that “His truth is marching on.”

I strive to be in step with it. Slow but sure we stumble onward.

Bill, predictions are a " dime a dozen" as has been said many times before.

"DOGE" is an effort, Trump having selected two indiĺviduals who have no one to please, and have not an inclination to follow any previous plans or diagrams by so called "experts" (has-been-drips-under-pressure). They will get this done! They understand the playbook of those liberal, woke ne're do wells. Boom!

This relates to employee input. There is a concept called 3 by 3. It's helpful in terms of sales and strategic or tactical planning. I could use a hundred pages here... The bottom line is if you get 3 individuals completely unrelated, likely adversarial and perhaps competing for capital within the overall organization to advance the same ideas on improvements, its gospel. Highly actionable. Highly.

Successful.

I think You would have to admit that Bill has some good points. Even Dan at the end of this writing wrote that 1500 pages for more money. You and I know this will be rubber stamped and all the "new spending " will just grow. Tell Me when was the last time You read 1500 pages in a short time and had to come back and re-read to come to a conclusion? Not only will Mr. T have to have his staff look at this and then try and do something to keep the Country "alive". How can any sane person propose such ? In my world , I keep it simple, We need x amount of dollars to keep going. One page . When Congress is in their seats . Then deal with the other 1499 pages. But My life is simple. Governments life is complex by design.

The alternative is NOT to fund, and then make everybody in the so-called Congress fight for every single line item. At some point, passing the buck (literally) must stop and Congress has to put on its "big boy and girl" pants and do the job they signed up for and got elected to do. Sending this CR to the "president's" (haha WHAT president?) gets a signature, followed by bragging about he saved the country, again. This crock of madness needs to end. This is no better time. Has anyone heard anything from Trump regarding this obscene spending agreement? Isn't Mike Johnson his boy? If Trump is serious about cutting spending why isn't Johnson starting now?

Secondly, does anyone have any info on the all-in costs of tariffs? I remember that during Trump's last administration he had to bail out the farmers because China cut back on buying US agriculture products in retaliation for the tariffs in Chinese products.
