Sometimes I wonder why any of us thinks we have any rights at all. When the hair on the back of my neck begins to stand up I go to this picture named the Blue Dot taken by the Voyager Spacecraft and I begin to become very sober quickly.
I agree with you PG V. It’s very difficult. My Uncle once told me “you can’t please everyone.” That has stuck with me. I realize the problem with hypocrisy but I’m just thinking off the top of my head just now and realize it starts with entitlement which has become an endemic to a larger extent. Anyway thanks for your comment.
PGV: Well you certainly don't follow it. Just reread all the very nasty comments you have made many times about me. You think you are the only smart person who knows it all. Guess What: I think you are a hypocrite. You treat women differently than men. Maybe you should listen to the sermons more closely and follow them.
It is shocking to realize that politics and politicians are clean and wonderful. Democracy is filthy and unsustainable.
Aristotle named democracy after the neighborhoods - the "demas" - of Athens and Attica. He referred to "democrateia" as the "perversion" of popularly elected government. I refer to democracy as the war of the demas, my dema stealing from your dema, legitimized civil war.
As Bill pointed out today, the stooges we elect today are all DEMO-ticians. We have no poli-ticians at all; no representatives of the whole polis, the whole state/nation - STATES-men. None.
Both sides today love democracy. They are all DEMO-ticians. I suggest that we stop legitimizing the stooges with the words politics, political, and politicians.
Voting for demo-ticians is cowards eating their young.
OMG: What a STUPID remark. "Voting for demo-ticians is cowards eating their young." Don't take PGV's remarks so seriously. The Rep. haven't done so great in our economy for a long time. You are not helping America; If you don't like our situation here, go to some other country. We won't miss you.
Excellent job Bill! Both Tribes need their useful idiots; lovingly referred to as Statists. When I hear some poor soul bemoan their loss of Democracy I use my go-to retort. "Don't worry Sweetheart, neither Tribe will take away your ability to vote for my wallet." Just another warm, sunny, beautiful day here in Parasite Nation. What's in your wallet :-)
Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results = Insanity. Hope's not a strategy. You want to do something useful for future generations? Burn this disease ridden banana republic to the ground :-)
You find me one fiscal conservative and I'll vote for him or her. They've gone the way of the dinosaur, they're extinct. I want to starve the government to death, but neither Tribe will touch that proposition with a 10 foot pole. No, for me there's only one way out, and that's secession. We've long since crossed the Rubicon, its time to get off the Titanic.
Yup, the government induced lockdowns was cowardice on steroids. I never thought I'd see the day Americans submit to a government mandated lockdown. To lock up the productive members of society for a virus with lotto odds of dying from was beyond asinine. Then to watch the cowards fall in line with the government mandated clot shot was unbelievably pathetic. If we handled the pandemic like adults (i.e. Real Americans) we could have prolonged our day of reckoning.
Damn, I wish you were wrong Bill, but it seems like you're not. It might be my age, but it does have an "end of times" feel about it at the moment. On the other hand, given that it's always been this way, maybe, at least, we're a bit more on to it these days? Or are they they just that much more in your face now - almost like they don't care anymore.? There was a time, I think, when even politicians were at least a bit embarrassed when they were caught lying, cheating, or stealing - not anymore.
Mr. Bonner & company. You said it very well. I've found out today that Cox (my email company) apparently doesn't like your comments. Why would I say that? I tried to make a comment to today's article and wasn't allowed. This is happening more than we think! Cox head quarters are in Georgia. Now we know what the quagmire there is all about. Helen Coggins
Mr. Bonner - with all due respect (I think your economic analyses are spot-on) I can't believe you don't see the difference between Trump's election denial lies, and Democratic politicos. I don't deny both parties are pro-war, pro-spending, etc. But Trump and his followers publicly state they will NOT accept any election result that doesn't favor them ! They no longer abide by the rules that make a democracy function - which is the road to totalitarianism.
And for all your travels, I am suprised (and rather in disbelief) you make so light of the U.S. democratic system. Any time spent in South America, Asia or Africa quickly reveals how much freedom we still enjoy (and how awful are the alternatives).
I supported Trump, consider him to have had a great presidency, yet I recognize he isn’t afraid of debt and that is his failing. But, 2020 elections were clearly manipulated, and the Jan 6th witch-hunt is a scam. However, this election is obviously not the same. Democrats are winning because the electorate wants abortion and free education. I’m terribly disappointed but I’m not yelling foul until it’s proven like last time. I agree with Bonner about the uniparty though.
DH: Pray tell us how the 2020 election was manipulated. The one who tried to manipulated it was Trump when he tried to get Brad Raffensperger, Secretary of State, from Georgia to find 11,780 votes.
Did you miss that? It was televised for all to see.
PGV: Horse Manure right back to you! Why don't you prove it? I just told you what transpired on TV. I'm sure the whole world saw it.
You have tunnel vision; only see what you want to see. Blind to only the Rep. party and a very poor loser. Why don't you get over it? I think some of the Republicans are finally seeing what a loser Trump really is. Wake up. If Trump runs again, I bet he loses big time. And I'm sure you will still be defending him...hopeless!
You switched the debt responsibility argument from Democrat/Republican to zero in on party presidents. The real authority for budgeting, spending, and debt lies with Congress last time I checked the Constitution. Look up two-year spending & debt by which party controls both houses of Congress and you'll see strong evidence of which congressional party is the big spender. For example, Democrats ruled Congress during the COVID spending spree and Republicans ruled during the last balanced budget.
Democracy, thats funny. Its like the US constitution, the German, the French, Russian constitution aren't they a Democracy ? People get their pockets picked, worried about who's going to win the public purse. Now, thats funny !
But that's what the man who named democracy/democrateia said it was. What you and I want is not democrateia, but POLITEIA - the legitimate, sustainable form of popularly elected government. The Romans called it REPUBLIC - government for everyone, not just for my dema/neighborhood stealing from yours.
Put the word democracy/democrateia in the toilet, where it belongs.
Mr. Bonner & Company: Keep up the good work. I've found out today that one of the email companies doesn't like your work. The Georgia based company. Now you know what the problem is in Georgia. Cox is that company. Helen Coggins
Sorry for the confusion, Dorothy. You would certainly be right if I were comparing democrats from republicans.
Unfortunately, all we have today are democracies, so both parties are represented by demo-ticians. They are elected to rob the other demos (neighborhoods) and bring the booty home to their own demos. That's what the incumbent demo-ticians brag about, and ask to get re-elected to go steal some more. (Strange to say, voters are surprised when their demoticians steal from them!)
Politicians, who truly work for the whole polis (nation) are almost non-existent anywhere today, including all of North America.
Bill, I know your smarter than what you said in this column. The President does present a budget to Congress, but what comes back is usually very different from what was sent. Congress has the power of the purse. To claim the President is responsible for spending is a little absurd. I also recall Trump going ballistic at Ryan when he presented the Congress’s budget to Trump. No, he didn’t have to sign it; and I wish he didn’t. With leadership like Ryan and McConnell who needs repubs or dims?

Not relevant. Try again!
Democracy, definition, two wolves and a lamb deciding what is for dinner. I will pass on democracy.
Just sayin.

Priceless.
..."for all your travels, I am surprised (and rather in disbelief) you make so light of the U.S. democratic system."
This is a brilliant observation, and the basis of very, very fruitful questions.
~ Do the BPR team really travel more than most of the rest of us?
~ Why surprise?
~ What do I see that they probably miss?
~ Is democrateia different in the USA than elsewhere?
~ Was the USA set up to be a democrateia, or some other form of popularly elected government?
~ If some other, how do they differ?
~ Which is the better form "of the people, by the people, and for the people"?

This comment in addition to my previous post on this site. McCarthy, in as Speaker of the
House, is not (will not be) any better than a lefty. He is as much of the "swamp" as any one
on the left.
