Bill is right again, everything repeats. The gale that took our authors trees down visited in the 1979 Fastnet Race, they sailed anyways, Ted Turner survived. Since we rarely learn apparently, what exactly does drive us? Survival it appears. It's what we're doing.

Wait a minute, sure 18 oz of gold from 1929 is still 18 oz today. However, the dollar has lost value compared to gold, thus the dollar price of gold is much higher. Sure, stocks have also gained value in dollar terms but they're running in place compared to gold. The trick is, the 30 DOW components of 1929 are not the same as the 30 components today. I'd be surprised if any of the 1929 DOW 30 stocks are still around today. So if you bought the DOW in 1929, you'd probably be dead and broke by now.
