Our problem is huge, but it is simple. Our problem is simple, but the solution is not easy, because change is never easy. At this point, change is necessary. Simply, our problem is government. Government creates, engages in, and is the source of deficit spending for the sole purpose of pandering (a fancy term for vote-buying) to the electorate. Government is now directly and indirectly involved to the extent of 40% of our "economy". The answer is to reduce government, its size, its scope, and its involvement back to minimal level, say, 10% of what we currently have. This can be done by reducing government 5% annually over 20 years, at which point, the country shall have been freed of its problem: big government and the control that comes with it. Freedom only works when we are free. Best always. PM

I agree. The problem is we don’t have politicians with balls. Every government agency needs to be reduced by at least 10%. This would not create much of an impact on people working for the government. The takers in our society can shove it. Like all of us we work for food and shelter. Remember Reagan’s words. When government officials come to your door and tell you they are there to help you. Shut the door quickly and bolt lock it.

I just want to say something not in this subject matter. I am a pharmacist, retired but practiced more than 50 years. Tylenol is a drug called acetaminophen. When in your body the drug breaks down into by products, one of them being phenacetin. Phenacetin was banned in the US in 1983 because it had dangerous side effects. Kennedy Jr and staff is right in the warning. Limit the use unless absolutely necessary.

Hi Abe,

I recall that phenacetin is converted into acetaminophen in humans, but I cannot find any documentation that acetaminophen is converted into phenacetin. If you have any sources documenting this, I would be grateful to be pointed in that direction. Thanks,

You are correct. In my studies I go by chemical structure activities. Acetaminophen can cause liver and kidney damage if taken in doses beyond its limits. Gets much worse if there is alcohol intake. This is the reason for caution, especially in children and pregnancy. Thank you for the correction. Maybe I have a dyslexia problem.

You start out commenting that gold, which has risen like a rocket this year, may come down like a rocket as well, but then go on to discuss how all governments print money without limits. Gold has indeed risen sharply this year in fiat currency terms, but I really can't see it falling the same way, again measured in dollars, euros, etc. The stock market, on the other hand, seems like a bug in search of a windshield.

An Ol' LSO's avatar

Gordon, interesting. I usually find ol' Bill if not spot-on or pretty darn close. But - when it comes to gold (and silver too) I wonder. In our at least "bi-polar world" the BRICS are working on an alternate to the US$ dominant and gold is once again a Tier 1 asset. China - by some respected analyst - has more than 30,000 metric tons. Far in excess to whatever the U.S. might hold (hard to tell since there has been no official audit since 1952). So as the fiat currency era comes to a close, what happens to the US$? Will it be the Weimar Republic all over again? And, yes, with over $600 trillion in wordwide US asset derivatives - the bug, I believe, is accelerating towards the windshield. We will see.

I share your concern that the US dollar is losing its status as the world's reserve currency but I can't fathom which currency might replace it.

If one emerges that's gold backed, then for it to be accepted, the gold must be redeemable. If so, then I would expect that gold to disappear in hours.

Expand full comment
An Ol' LSO's avatar

Agree.......from what I've read the coming BRICS currency will be redeemable in gold and why there are gold vaults being established outside of China in places such as Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia. And, frankly, it is a stretch to think the U.S. can continue to print trillions of US$ each year and expect the rest of the world to quietly go along - especially given the financial problems in UK, France, and Germany. Who is going to buy the U.S. Treasuries? I am not suggesting the BRICS currency is the answer because I doubt at least the U.S. and most of the EU would accept that because of the consequences to the western financial system and London as the epicenter. But I sense something epic and potentially horrific is coming..........

I find it strange that there has been no US gold audit since 1952. This would not be a costly exercise, not that the administration ever worries about cost witness our "defence" spending. Have they something to hide? Maybe the cupboard is bare and the US like Gordon Brown sold it all off when gold was at an all time low?

Expand full comment
An Ol' LSO's avatar

So do many others.........strange indeed. There are at least two (2) schools of thought: 1.) the Government believes gold is a worthless relic and only wants the world to think about the US$ or 2.) it all has been sold of. Prior to visiting Fort Knox or New York where supposedly it is stored, both Trump and Musk made a big deal of it and then silence. And, if there is still the 8,000 metric tons, it pales in comparison to the 30,000 or so metric tons believed to be in China. Gold is indeed an interesting mystery..........if the BRICS currency is redeemable in gold, I suspect the U.S. will have to come clean......

Mr. Mackinac, You are on to something here. A writer from the American conservative media org, Townhall, brought up an interesting tidbit about European climate hysteria and open borders. He did some research and discovered that Mississippi, because of its large black population (38.5%), has the lowest GDP per capita (per person) of the 50 U.S. states. BUT, BUT, BUT---Mississippi's quiet efforts to improve black and Latino student test scores over many years, and its aggressive efforts to bring foreign business investment into its state to provide good jobs for now better-skilled and educated Mississippi residents, especially young minority residents, has begun to pay off, resulting in its GDP per capita rising at a faster rate over the past five years than most U.S. states. But what jumped out at me, and the writer emphasized, was that Mississippi's GDP per capita ($53,100) is now actually higher than almost every other country on earth, with only Canada, Australia, U.K., Germany, & Scandinavia ahead among major countries. And he predicted that with Mississippi's growth, it will pass Germany's GDP per capita in a few years and possibly catch the U.K. and Scandinavia because of all three countries' embrace of climate change and open borders, chasing many businesses to the U.S. This means that all 50 U.S. states could soon have GDP per capita higher than the overwhelming majority of the world's major countries except Canada and Australia---only because Canada and Australia have such enormous natural resources, and thus employ so many folks in high-paying energy-related jobs.

Bonner should have a better take on Argentina; he did live there and has family managing 40k acres.

All governments grow big, control assets that benefit few.

Most of government printing goes into the pockets of the few, private investment funds.

The few in Argentina live in Buenos Aires. The population rebelled against that, figured out you can decimate government, and it helps the many and hurts the few.

Medical care in the US is an abomination. Not only is it expensive, it is dangerous to your health; there is no honesty.

The warfare state supports the few. It should be decimated first.

It is 1 trillion a year plus more for nefarious intelligence.

The creation of money ends up in private investment, asset bubbles which deprive Americans an economic stake.

The elite, in all endeavors, plunge their money into private investment funds, especially doctors, lawyers, and dentists.

20 years ago, I could visit a doctor for $39.00, today $250.

The price has gone up 100% in 2 years. Insurance will go up because insurance continually pays more; there is no market. 15 years ago, a cataract surgeon, low payed, made 1.5 million. It is all about repetition and speed not good medicine. Everyone pads tests and operations. Many of these are beguiling quacks.

Everything is skewed and Americans are getting screwed.

What is the total medical bill? What part is paid by government, Medicare and Medicaid, and what part do private insurance companies take in? The government cost, Federal and State is humongous.

It is not the clamoring deplorables that benefit from government, it is the few that control it.

And they are adept at controlling minds and hearts.

They say gold is not an investment, when you make 45% in 9 months it’s a phenomenon.
