During the whole post-war period, America’s manufacturing base contracted. China benefited from it; it didn’t cause it. And today only one in twelve American workers works in manufacturing.
Ol' Bill hit the nail squarely on the head. The U.S. and the World needs an honest currency - not more and more fake currency. The U.S. continues to create more "fake" currency out of the thin air and trade it for the sweat of laborers worldwide. And somehow, that makes the World rippin' off America. Frankly - that logic is delusional. The problem is there is no way the U.S. will ever have a balance budget again until it slams into the financial meltdown wall, and it is coming. America is clearly in decline and sticking one's head in the sand and praising the Emperor without any clothes is not going to change that - just going to shock the vast majority when the wall appears. As Albert Einstein said - "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former". As always - just an ol' man's opinion....and ¿quien sabe? I could be wrong but I don't think so.
another trump hater without a solution. Just more nonstop verbal abuse of the man trying to make a difference. Seems to me that you are suggesting all this is BS and we should just let the status quo play out. WRONG. I for one say give the man a chance. it sure beats the alternative where those ripping us off (internally) are bitching about catching their hand in the cookie jar. The feces head schumer (he doesn't deserve a capital letter) and the pencil neck schiff, AOC never managed squat but knows how the country should run....oh and lets not forget the pure play communist BS, as in bernie sanders. Come on now - do you really want them back in power, if not you and BB have to easy up and give the man a chance to make real meaningful change.
A different opinion. The U.S. conjures up fiat currency out of thin air and gives it to the rest of the world for real products produced with labor. Then keeps conjuring up fictitious "funny" money and devaluing the basis of this fiat currency. And, somehow that equates to the rest of the World rippin' off the USofA. Frankly, from this ol' man's perspective, that logic is really delusional. And, somehow Emperor Trump is going to magically make this change. How exactly is that going to happen? Bring manufacturing back and employing ten of thousands of robots? And, right away, the name calling - "oh, you Trump haters". Amazin'..........and more delusions. Let's just agree to disagree and - I won't even call you a name.........Ok?
in all actuality stating you are a Trump hater is not calling you a name. Read your posts and draw your own conclusions, if the facts fit, it is just reality.
Reality? Whose reality? We all have opinions and that is what they are - opinions. I don't hate Trump......I just don't see the world that way he does. Ok - he got elected as the "peace" president - and the world is less peaceful now than under the Biden (or whomever's administration since Biden wasn't actually there). For us without options Wishin' and Hopin' is glorious until it is not. Watching what central banks and the billionaires are doing should provide some glimmer of what's ahead - maybe.
Lest we forget, every single OTHER currency in the world is also FIAT FUNNY MONEY with no backing by anything and solely valued in relationship to other currencies. Why is the dollar valued much higher than that of other countries? Because of the size of Dollar demand throughout the World, the size of the resource and energy base in the USA, the size of the USA economy whether due to consumption or services or production.
Trump wants to increase the production part of the equation, in recognition that we are hostages of the supply chain as Covid showed. We need to produce all critical supplies in our own country, whether Steel, or pharmaceuticals or ships or electronic chips or components. This is the ONLY sane path as anything else can prove to be suicidal (say in the face of a bioweapon attack).
Well how do you feel about turning your dollars into Rubles, or Yuan, or Euros, or Canadian $$, or Pesos, or Pound Sterling, or anything else? None of these are backed by Gold, some have no energy resources (several countries in Europe) and are extremely corrupt. The true sleeping giant is possibly Russia,as it is by far geographically the largest country in the world with substantial energy and vast mineral wealth far beyond that of most countries. It also has a highly educated resolute population, all of whom are well aware of the 26 million Russians who died during and as a consequence of WWII, as many were ancestors in their family line.
So I call BS. We are talking about a global monetary order, NOT A USA one. This is why the USA financiers were freaking out about the potential for the BRICS to issue a Gold backed currency. Do you think this will happen? I do not because at least two of the countries appear to be experiencing a critical reduction in population (India and China) and in the case of China, a huge financial collapse in the Real Estate and Banking sectors, and perhaps to come in manufacturing.
As we learn about the extreme levels of incompetence in the USA Federal bureaucracy and lack of basic financial controls, so mostly Democrats (and doubtless some RINO’s) could steal as blind as if Federal funds were their private dip into it fund, imagine the level of corruption in a communist run system (democrats on steroids) where few of the bureaucrats do any work and spend their time jockeying for position, perks, and more money. None of the China statistics are remotely reliable including population, unemployment, deaths, births, GDP, inflation, deflation, or anything else.
At least Trump is making a grand effort to fix the mess, unlike any President in my lifetime (I’m 74). So I, and all of MAGA will support him 1000% for as long as he leads this country. He is walking us back from the Precipice of financial implosion created by our previous so-called leaders who do not care one bit about America, or the American people.
"America is clearly in decline and sticking one's head in the sand and praising the Emperor without any clothes is not going to change that..."
Very true - but thinking people neither have their heads in the sand nor are we praising naked kings. What we ARE doing is watching some outside-the-box thinking and policy that might, just might, give us some breathing room to make true systemic and structural changes. Unfortunately, it's not looking like the Congress has even a tad of interest in helping fix any of the other valid problems you point out - and without them onboard it is all wasted effort....
A** kissing? Nobody is here for that and it says more about YOU than anything else.
We'd settle for a FAIR, IMPARTIAL, USEFUL analysis based on Facts, Evidence, History and Results - but it is ABUNDANTLY CLEAR that this ain't the place for that if it has anything to do with Trump....
Bill--having been raised in a factory town I know that the Chinese bought up several of
our factories, shuddered them, and either destroyed the machinery or shipped them back
to China. This happened in the late 60s and through the 70's. I think you underestimate the Chinese being the "cause" of the shift in manufacturing as they literally bought the competition out. This comports to their 200 year plan to dominate us. My opinion of course.
I know who the sellers were.I was involved in transporting these factories to china. I thought that it was a great idea at the time. The sellers were the small time foundries; aluminum, brass, firebrick, hand tools , pots and pans. You're implying that the sellers were happy to sell. They were not. They were being crushed under the government boot of regulation. Smaller towns were the first to be attacked. The emission standards, ridiculous osha rules et al, enforced by law bankrupted many of these privately owned businesses. Many of these factories were packed up lock stock and barrel and shipped off to either China or previously to Mexico. Some were simply paid only for the brand name and logos.
Additionally, the death tax or inheritance tax would go on to crush most privately held companies. The heirs, even though they might be running the business, he, could not afford the inhetance tax.
POP QUIZ. How did Berkshire Hathaway get its name? It was a textile company. They made everything from bed sheets, towels to high end men's dress shirts.
The company was being crushed by the items noted above. The family could not afford heritance taxes. I believe it's Warren Buffets first major purchase. Paid the family pennies on the dollar. The business is gone, The name lives on and the mild mannered Ice cream eater claims that inheritance taxes should be higher.Because "Why should Paris Hilton get anything. My secretary pays more taxes than I do." What a little crap.
Thanks Bill for the first hand information. Yes I new about Hathaway , partially. From What You are telling Me is that government is the culprit. Why do I not find that this is the usual culprit.. In My still humble opinion, government has no business in business. I do believe that one of the USA founders said that a good government is one that is least heard of.
As to the Golden Rule, which is indeed a Biblical admonition, I would suggest that as a scriptural approbation it applies to individuals and not to nations. The principle is an important distinction that cuts both ways and applies to a number of areas of Godly licensure, including the “power of the sword”, which applies to nations(but not to individuals other than in self defense). As to treating others as you would wish to be treated, that may in fact be a good foreign policy ad hoc, but would be a disaster as blanket policy in a fallen world. History easily bears this out. It is summarily reversed in war and there are no indications in scriptural teaching where the concept is upheld. Quite the contrary. When the Bible states(as it does numerous times), that God will judge the nations we must remember that that judgement can only happen in this life. For individuals it can and will happen in the next life.
“For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer” -Romans 13:4, NIV.
Governments are judged by God for how they execute this Godly mandate according to His will and purposes. If poorly executed, the entire nation of people can fall under God’s judgement even though most have no part in the transgression, in particular the historical component. This is in addition to the judgement of individuals which all are subject to although believers and non-believers experience very different judgements. Nations are judged in this life, individuals the next. If nations are to be judged, it could not be any other way.

Believe what you see when these people show you who they really are. Treat them accordingly - there is NO middle ground...
I concur wholeheartedly with what you’ve written today. Although, in order to get an honest currency ( asset based vs. debt based) you need honest politicians and honest bankers, and in this day and age that would be next to impossible. It would also require fiscal responsibility, transparency, and a loss of power for the political world i.g. coming in humility and peace - otherwise a pipe dream. I guess we’ll have to wait for the millennial reign of Jesus for that to be realized.
Perhaps an honest currency will be forced upon the US when the rest of the world wakes up to the fact that it is rapidly becoming worthless. The fact that US bonds are already being sold by the smart Chinese who will demand gold for their sales might be an early indicator of the disdain felt for the fiat dollar.
"[said China's Finance minister.]" -- Bill's quotation from Reuters
The CCP's Finance Minister, now that's a guy I really trust (not). I'd just like to point out that though manufacturing jobs receded after 1948 due to technological and engineering advances, 1 in 5 working in that sector beats the hell out of the 1 in 12 we have now (according to Bill). It's interesting how that bit of reality is lost on Bill. I guess he's in the Paul Krugman camp that marvels at how great the Chinese system is.
“An honest, gold-backed dollar would force the feds to balance its federal budget. Thereafter, Americans couldn’t ‘print’ their way to wealth. They’d have to earn it…by producing things they could sell.”
Good!
Now repeat. Trump is not the cause of anything in the long term. I will not mention Trump for one month; I will only comment on policy.
Ah yeah, Bill. Mean ole Americs, always at the root of the problems now existing. We must continue to "Genuflect" to the world like we have been fo over 70 years. We must show our compassion to all, so they know we are an "easy mark." The last 4 years have proved that out, because we all know how that worked, at least those of us who have learned to think and reason.
Maybe I'm missing something but I haven't seen much compassion from our owners in regards to foreign policy during the last forty years. We've invaded and destroyed multiple countries including Libya, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. The owners who said it was necessary to stop communism in Vietnam laced the country with Agent Orange killing thousands including over 30,000 US soldiers. Papa Bush even killed over 2,000 civilians in Panama in order to capture his former CIA asset Noriega.
Not that we are the only ones getting involved in other countries, huh? But, there those, for some reason who can't see beyond our shores, right Cartero?
I never said the US is the only country involved in other countries. Just that there has been no compassion in our foreign policy. Just ask Kissinger who said to be an enemy of the US is dangerous but to be a friend of the US is fatal. Or read Major General Smedley Butler's book Wars is a Racket. Right now we are providing everything Nuttyyahoo needs to wipe out the Palestinians while our major cities have drug addiction and homelessness problems.
Well, think for a minute; It hasn't been just recent history that this has been going on, and not just America becoming involved in/with foreign govts; each for a different reason. One can go back 2000 years and observe these foreign/interboarder incursions or simply "interactions." So how would one answer your own question, hmm?
So what is the question? Post war accelerated decline = increased world participation. The foundation of the lost great American Industrial machine happened before WW1, reached its crescendo in 1945. It was awesome.
Don't mean to be trite but China would never follow the golden rule when it can steal and repost virtually anything made in the US. They have been doing it for decades and nothing will change that. They are unlikely to change when the progress they have made in the last 30 years plus is related to their theft of intellectual property and cannibalizing whatever they feel is advantageous.
Agree, we or should I say Corporate America did it unto itself, seeking cheaper labor thus increasing profit. Trump believes it will bring manufacturing back and so do I. However, i don't see the jump in jobs he is anticipating. Think about this, why did they leave the US to begin with - easy, save labor costs, get it built elsewhere cheaper. Now they are told come back of pay significant tax. So they come back, and build a plant here but with AI & robotics. Now we manufacture 7x24, lights out, and not worry about labor costs anymore. Even more profit!
True, but the reality was that the rush on the gold window was an arbitrage opportunity since we artificially set the price in the world had a free market on gold, and so they took advantage of that arbitrage opportunity. We could’ve just let gold float with the market and all of our problem solved… That being said the communist party was able to use communism as a sling to Goliath capitalism.
Mister Sluggo, from what I have been reading, it seems that Besant has some interest in a gold-based currency. I strongly believe that Trump is going for his legacy effect. A gold-backed currency would make him a president that would be talked about for 100 years.
It’s the only thing that will work. Maybe they’ll try bitcoin? Who knows? Old Chinese proverb/curse… may you live in interesting times. We’ve certainly got that going for us Sluggo! Welcome back
As an American Nativist, I know full well who are the biggest threats to my life, liberty, and property. In no particular order:
1. The U.S. Government
2. Federal Reserve
3. Wall Street and their London Bankers
4. Globalists
5. Neocons
6. Economically Illiterate Americans
No China no Russia. This is completely an inside job. With self-professed friends like this, I don't need any enemies.

It was American money.
I am beginning to think they bought out BB as well. : / hmmm.

It's only recorded in ancient wisdom. But Adam was really pissed.
Bill:

A diverse lot
some, no doubt, fueled by pot
and other seditious demons;
all hailing the rot
and various whatnot
in their own supercilious way.
A comedy of comments
sets minds areeling,
some just for fun,
some quite appealing,
some like a vagrant squealing,
have me kneeling in prayer.
Most of them all,
devoted to their own
sectarian gods,
set feelings in motion
like a sorcerer’s potion.
Alas, all I can do
is wipe off my frown
and make it on down
to my own local zoo.
C’mon, y’all; does anyone seriously think this country is going to return to the gold standard?
Mister Sluggo, from what I have been reading, it seems that Besant has some interest in a gold-based currency. I strongly believe that Trump is going for his legacy effect. A gold-backed currency would make him a president that would be talked about for 100 years.
You're back Sluggo! Good job mate...
Thanks, Clem. Good to be back! I appreciate the BPR folks working with me. They were more than fair; and again, I am most appreciative.
It’s the only thing that will work. Maybe they’ll try bitcoin? Who knows? Old Chinese proverb/curse… may you live in interesting times. We’ve certainly got that going for us Sluggo! Welcome back
Yessir, I agree. And indeed, we do! Great to be back.
