The White House just announced its first rescission package is going to be released to Congress this week. It contains 9.4 Billion in spending cuts identified by DOGE. Anybody want to lay odds that Bill will write a scathingly negative piece this week ridiculing the "tiny" amount they're proposing to cut?

What he won't say is that this is just the first such package the administration is going to propose. "It's over" isn't so over.

You are talking about billions when the "first 'rescission' package" is about adding trillions to a country which has already severely handicapped itself by 1. unwittingly ceding global leadership to China and 2. virtually guaranteed that the dollar will be replaced soon. US government printing paper gold since 1971 has been the main instrument enabling us to force every foreigner to subsidize our lifestyle. In addition, forcing Chinese students to study and then work elsewhere will accelerate US losses in technology, patents, and every other quality of life measurement.

Much of this is true, and somewhat explains how we got here. It also makes a point that I make often: It took about 7 decades to get where we are, it's going to take a long time to pull out and someone has to start somewhere. Crawling up into a fetal position isn't going to get us anywhere.

Are you unaware that foreigners (documented or undocumented) work harder (i.e., produce more per hour and per dollar paid) than people born in the country or that they are no more likely to commit REAL crimes than us "natives". Please explain how the law-ignorant, law-"enforcing" Noem is less misplaced than those drawing attention to her strange behavior.

I've never seen any study or report that provides evidence that "foreigners" produce more than naturalized citizens. If that's true then we have the Marxist/Leftist/Democrats and their teachers' unions to thank for five decades of substandard education.

Your argument about illegal aliens no more likely to commit "real" crimes is beyond stupid. The point is that an illegal alien should NOT be here in the first place so when they do commit a real crime (and they do plenty of them) the victim is harmed by a perpetrator that shouldn't exist.

I find it reprehensible that Mr.Bonner supports illegal immigration. Sure, folks have been immigrating to this great country for hundreds of years, but most have been immigrating LEGALLY, being vetted and examined prior to being issued an immigrant visa. The horde that has invaded the country over the past years are the “unusual and extraordinary” plague on this country. Legal immigrants in the past were not provided cell phones, living accommodations, debit cards etc. They assimilated into the population and supported themselves. I fully support Ms.Noem in ridding this country of tax draining dollars to illegals.

I'll go real slow so you can understand. There are significant differences between citizens, non-citizens and illegal aliens. There are different sets of "rights" for each of the aforementioned people. As Quinnster aptly pointed out above, habeas corpus is usually (except when it's Donald Trump's administration) only extended to illegal aliens under extenuating circumstances. "Due Process", unlike how the Marxist/Leftist/Democrats want to define it, doesn't come with as many bells and whistles for illegal aliens as it does for citizens. You know, as it should be.

From the law office of Ernest Goodman

UNDERSTANDING HABEAS CORPUS IN IMMIGRATION PROCEEDINGS

Habeas corpus, under 28 U.S.C. § 2241, is a fundamental legal principle that allows individuals to challenge unlawful detention by the government. It serves as a safeguard against arbitrary or prolonged confinement without justification. In the immigration context, habeas corpus is particularly relevant for noncitizens detained by ICE beyond a reasonable period, especially when removal is not feasible.

Noncitizens in detention often have limited legal options once a final removal order is issued. While ICE has the authority to detain individuals pending deportation, the legal basis for continued detention weakens when actual removal is not reasonably foreseeable. Habeas corpus petitions allow attorneys to argue that detention has become unlawful, thereby seeking court intervention to secure the individual’s release under an order of supervision (OSUP) or other appropriate conditions.

That should shut him up. People like Steve only care about habeas corpus when it suits their purposes. The Biden administration can allow illegal immigrants to come into the country by the millions knowing it would take forever to get them out if we went through "habeas corpus" proceedings. If they are allowed in by the millions, we should be able to kick them out by the millions.

No-one is going to pay $3500 to come here and work in our fields. That cost doesn't include medical or transpiration cost.

I hope you haven't been following the staffing at Taiwan Semiconductors US plants ~50% foreigners with green cards. Immigrants are easily exploited by their US employers!

An employer can petition for a non-immigrant farm worker on an I-129. The non-immigrant can legally enter the country with an H-1/H-2 visa. After the season they go home. The employer can repeat every year. Whether the employer provides decent wages is another story. I’ve seen employers put the workers up in a bunkhouse and charge exorbitant rates. Humanity at its best. Yes, I’d pay more to allow another human a decent wage, wouldn’t you?

It's not immigration that is the problem it's open borders. I've grown tired of commentary that doesn't recognize this distinction. Open borders are designed to destabilize countries and institute single party dominance. Any boost to GDP will be artificial and will not offset the strain on social services. In the west open borders have been the ultimate betrayal of the people's trust. A world traveler understandably might have a more open and optimistic view. But for those stuck in place in cities that have bore the brunt of the rapid influx of new people, the reality is different. Maybe in fifty years it becomes a wash and works itself out. But at what cost and who benefited?

Sorry, he's already transferred power over to China. Because of his ideological nutcase "advisor", Peter Navarro, the tariff guru, no one believes what the US says, period. Until that changes Trump and the USA have nowhere to go.

As the new 50% tariff on steel proves, he is totally lost: It was the 25% tariff on steel imposed during Trump's first term that started us marching backwards. Not only did we have to pay higher prices for virtually everything, but China became to inventor of all kinds of new steel products and now, 8 years later, produces 70% of the world's steel. The ONLY beneficiary the absurd tariff was US Steel which went from the brink of bankruptcy to a company worth $14 billion solely because of the monopoly power (higher prices combined with lower quality).

Like a lot of his other decisions/deals it is lose-lose and not even close to win-lose. Win-win happens to be the basis of Chinese decision-making. Because of that anyone can travel there at 200 mph on 30,000 miles of steel and feel like they are riding in an elevator, while here in the US we travel 35 mph on steel that leaves us bouncing around as if we were in a washing machine. Has he ever wondered by what millennium will we catch up with China in building ships--even if the government were capable of paying the monopoly price, it's difficult to imagine a private business being both able to pay and willing to wait.

2) the courts failed miserably under Biden’s presidency, prosecuting innocents and ignoring felons.

3) let’s talk due process. Every single illegal immigrant came into this country without due process. On that basis alone they should all be sent home. THERE WAS NO DUE PROCESS!!!

They can’t be here without due process!!!!!

4) BB still doesn’t get what can be in the BBB and what can’t, if he even cares.

By destroying the current structures his way, he has accelerated what was bound to happen eventually. Even if it creates a serious recession in the US, it will create huge opportunities--mostly, however, for foreigners who have been ties up by the wars provoked by the US and by having to pay for many--if not most--of our fake dollars. They have, in addition, previous experience in sacrificing to survive. As has been said before, "the poor shall inherit the earth". I think the Philippines, Mexico, Argentina and, of course, China will do especially well--as long as there are no more fighting wars in which they are involved. Yes, and millions of people have lost their jobs due to machines and productivity gains of one sort or another, only to be employed by new industries. This apocalyptic scenario of huge losses of jobs neglects to factor in one important truth; that is, it is people who buy the products and services. If there is massive unemployment, who is going to do the buying? This massive unemployment scenario is not going to happen. It is all self-correcting in a free market.

I have been hearing that argument since college. The point is every job created in a technological world demands a skill and illegals don’t have them, they just add to the unemployable on government dole which is now above 100 million.

The population is naturally adjusting, but they won’t let it, they want big growth numbers and that does not translate into adequate living for all, hence the social problems America faces. Read the paper or talk to family members falling through the cracks. What really surprises me is that Black congressional leaders push for more immigration. The pie is shrinking, musical chairs getting more desperate and Bonner talks about “The Big Loss” when the music stops for a prolonged period of time. Economic-Financial collapse.

Trump already gave away all the power the US has had for decades with his clumsy handling of the tariff issues. Few if any businesses can survive, much less grow, when they have no idea what tomorrow's rules will look like. Combined with making himself look like an untrustworthy blowhard during the one-week duration of his one-man, one-nation trade war, he is increasing both the size and the percentage growth of the debt, while picking on the poor to lose services, making sure the billionaires get to keep their 2017 tax breaks and throwing out the window all the billions and the prestige that foreign students bring. Lose-lose-lose-lose. All these "free markets" and individual decision-making you correctly cite are being destroyed in favor of new plans that make no sense.

I am talking about illegals that cross the Southern border with nothing but the clothes on their backs, not the high tech, doctor, students. Theoretically, they say getting the world’s brains is a good thing but to me it is just a failure of your society. American education, 1.3 trillion in debt, no one educated, graduate schools 85% foreign. It’s just a pawn of the military industrial complex.

Indians have a competitive educational system, like sports training, total meritocracy, then they send their best and brightest to American elite colleges and go on to Control Microsoft.

China has been sending students here since the late 80’s they had whole dorm wings at the University of Utah. We educate the world but not our own, too dumb, too ruined.

I was in Peace Corps, Honduras, 1968, I had empathy for the people, even sent a few North myself but things have changed, the population has increased four fold, the people are idle, uneducated, the governments and societies they exist in a shambles.

America is in deep trouble, society is breaking down the young lost and despoiled; we have trouble enough of our own. The lifeboat can only handle so many before in founders and everyone drowns. There is enough trouble in our own backyard, our own families. Maybe, you don’t have kids? Maybe, your empathy is misplaced? The US has had a policy since the early 50’s to keep Latin America poor. Its overthrow (on behalf of the United Fruit Company—now Chiquita) of Guatemala’s popular, elected government (only the second in its history) put an end to the Good Neighbor Policy of the early 30’s and to the dreams of natives to own their own lands. Half a million indigenous people have been killed by US sponsored dictatorships since 1954. The GNP unified Latin America against Germany and provided it 3-cent/pound Chilean copper to help win WWII. Now China promotes development and fights US induced poverty now in LAmerica.

You bring up some diverse and complex issues.

I am no lover of American Foreign Policy intrigues. I was in Chile after the Allende election. The CIA was outright stupid in their campaign to stop him, in fact, it so misread the situation that it caused his win. A war over copper that caused many disappeared.

I was under Kennedy’s Alliance for Progress; to bad he was eliminated. China seems to work in similar ways. Guess they are just smarter, and it is making them greater and marginal countries more productive.

In a bygone era, during, as Bill would say, America’s Golden age, American entrepreneurs roamed the world looking for opportunities. It was a free market-based time. America had no colonies, but entrepreneurs started businesses abroad, notably, copper mines and bananas.

Just visualize everything jungle or desolate mountains.

The fruit companies, I was in Honduras, built a whole infrastructure, roads, railroads, shipping ports, housing, schools, hospitals. At the turn of the century American businesses were paternal. Hard to believe but in the 1950’s Bethlehem Steel, Sparrows Point, MD plant was a whole town constructed in the 20’s by Charles Schwab.

United Fruit and Anaconda Copper brought a new prosperity Chile and Central America. It went South after WW2 when America became a dumb empire ruled by dumb bastards at the CIA. They have continued to destroy everything.

I marveled at the fruit companies, what they built, how they treated people. They got a bad rap when the politicians of those countries started a campaign to get their land. Now the Oligarchs have it and the people starve.
