How about this analogy? Trump and Netanyahu are sitting with acquaintances at the end of the bar. They look down the bar at Iran and say to themselves "Let's kick that guy's ass." The fight starts and Iran is holding its own. So Trump looks down the bar at NATO, Japan and China and says "You guys got to help us". But they respond "Bartender, another round and some more popcorn. Let's watch the fight".

Dave J's avatar

Hilarious, the only thing wrong with your "analogy" is that "Iran is holding its own". LMFAO

Cartero Atómico's avatar

If not, why is Donnie asking for the help of NATO, Japan, Korea and especially China? Maybe China is even using this war as a learning experience to see how US weapons function.

Dave J's avatar

You can't be this stupid. Our President is looking to defray the costs. You know, like a smart business person. If you and the 30 geniuses that liked your post had the same intel that the Administration and our military leaders have, you and your minions might have an intellectual leg to stand on, but since you don't, you don't.

Cartero Atómico's avatar

One of our military leaders - retired Special Forces, 11 combat tours, CIA and former head of counter terrorism for Trump - resigned stating that Iran posed no threat to the US.

Dave J's avatar

Uh huh, good for him and good riddance for us.

Cartero Atómico's avatar

Donald is looking to defray costs? Good luck with that. During his 5+ years as president the national debt has increased by $10 trillion! But you still trust our "intelligence"? Trump said he was surprised that Iran attacked the Gulf States that harbor our bases. Speaking of stupid, maybe I'm stupid but maybe Donnie is too. One of his professors at Wharton said that "Donald Trump was the goddamn dumbest student he ever had".

Dave J's avatar

Yeah, let's compare Donnie's Balance Sheet to that professor's. I love the way you use an apple to try and overcome an orange.

A better comparison than the national debt, is NATO. How much more is NATO contributing to their own defense than we are (the USA, which you are probably not a citizen of)? You must like chasing your tail (or parked cars).

Cartero Atómico's avatar

Apples to oranges. You mentioned the intellectual capacities of the administration and defraying costs. Facts are Trump has $10 trillion of debt on his record and is not as intelligent as you may believe. Why mention NATO spending in this discussion if our national debt is still soaring?

Two Ayatollah’s K-1 and K-2 took over Iran with purpose.

Control the people, control the country, use all its wealth to complete the Final Solution of exterminating Judaism and also Westernism.

In the meantime steal as much wealth for themselves, their support murderous bodyguards and sycophantic opportunists, and let the Persian rank and file be treated as serfs and slaves totally disposable.

The success of this terror model after 50 years was nearing completion, thanks to hand wringing politicians and a corrupt UN and no one prepared to take on the Islamic Republic of Terror, even when nuclear an their development of options were evident as war driven and close to operative.

Since 1948 the Jewish community in Israel determined they are not going to be exterminated again. So with guts, determination and outstanding smarts, they develop their tiny patch of ground to maximum productivity, innovation and preparedness to be good world citizens in harsh surroundings. The sense of existential threat demands, intelligence and fighting for survival as David vs Islamic Goliath nations surrounding their ENTIRE living space as a nation has been constant and evident by multiple wars.

Then finally a leader step up for Western civilisation and nations who says this is totally unacceptable.

“My predecessors said STOP!

“ You ignored them snd kicked them in the guts and have killed many of our people and continued to lie, cheat, abuse take our goodwill and spit in our faces. ENOUGH!

“You even funded and supplied your many others to do your dirty work, kill, destroy, maim and create global terror as mainstream medieval religious thugs, that 90% of world knows is garbage and evil. YOU ARE NOW GOING TO DIE YOURSELVES!

Trump love or hate him is THE single national leader and individual has called out in these terms, the geriatric tyrant K-2 and many of his leaders, commanders and just BLEW THEM AWAY to dust.

That the 50 years of the building of a terrorist cancer cannot be gotten rid of in 3 weeks is stupidity. It is a stage 4 cancer and to deal with all its metastases is going to take years.

Thank heavens he has had the balls to get his countries resources to take action to obliterate the curse that even the wimpy Gulf neighbours should have started punishing over tens of years ago. They all knew what K-1 and K-2 stood for, did and were full committed to as terrorists in black turbans and grey beards.

That the various Gulfies new cities and towers, are suddenly not proving quite such safe havens for millionaires, multi-billion families, economically and physically drone vulnerable, despite sitting on their thrones, oil wells, bank accounts, gold and new found infrastructure, shows their own arrogance ignorance, lack of common sense and world scenario planning.

Trump is not the idiot he disguises himself to be. He has stirred the ants nest just in time.

Andre Louw's avatar

Have you ever asked yourself why the population of Palestine should be brutally colonised by a European religious group who had similarly suffered through pogroms and Nazi stupid ideology?

Tom Langdon's avatar

So, can you unpack this a bit? No sure what you are saying here?

Fraser M's avatar

Except the Jews arent a "European religious group". You might need to go back to bible school, and history lessons.

Andre Louw's avatar

What are they then if not a diaspora of people with a common religion who identified themselves through their common religion. A further group of, the religious following, the Zionists, believe they have the God given right to the land between the Jordan River and the sea and are happily dislplacing

those who have lived there for centuries and treating them as second class citizens. To my minf this is not fair and the root cause of the problems we have in the middle east.

JayCee's avatar

The ‘Two state nations’ multiple offered by Israel always turned down by PLO (Arafat) and others Hamas,Hezbollah and Iran, as their goal from ‘The River to the Sea etc’ is their only conceivable option i.e. Israel obliterated and Jewish state extermination was the Quran dictate.

James ( Jim) Marshall's avatar

Taking away Iran's military capability is good for the whole world. Trying to limit civilian deaths is a good thing. Not destroying the oil infrastructure is a good thing. No one said it would be easy. Anything worthwhile usually takes a lot of effort. Sitting back and "saying mother may I" won't cut it. I vote to finish the job even though "our Friends" are craping their pants in fear to help out. Nothing new there!

Jim Marshall

Don Hrehirchek's avatar

Yep, nothing like inviting others into the war You have started. That way there are more people to blame when the results will finally come in.

Tom Langdon's avatar

Or on the other hand a way to bond nations together with a common casue and to unite commercially when the dust settles?

Don Hrehirchek's avatar

I suppose that one can "hope".

Cartero Atómico's avatar

Then sign up and finish the job. Barron Von Trump won't be able make it. Too busy speculating on cryptos. Meanwhile Don Jr and Erik are selling drones to the Pentagon. Sorry, Jim. In the words of Gen. Smedley Butler "War is a Racket". But why does Donnie need help. He said it was an excursion and they had decimated Iran.

Frank Westmoreland's avatar

Mr. Marshall, It could be that Pres. Trump knew that countries depending on the oil and LNG through the Strait of Hormuz would not help. Then he could have the U.S. military eventually get the Strait under control, and thus control all of the black gold and LNG passing through it. Then he would have leverage with these countries pertaining to more than just oil and LNG; as well as the mullahs who have to export oil (not LNG yet) for economic survival. And it will take several years for these countries to massively produce small nuclear reactors. Who knows? But I think we will all see pretty soon what Pres. Trump's play is: stop nukes (which might have been stopped last year at least for several years) or control a lot of oil and LNG that could be leveraged against other countries?

As an investor, especially if young or middle-aged, and with MANY years to live, investing a little bit each year in publicly-traded companies making small nuclear reactors or in Tom's recommended uranium plays, will---eventually---pay off handsomely. So when a child or grandchild is born, make the gift an uranium play rather than some gold coins for him or her. It's a long-term play, but the way things are going, probably a good one.

James ( Jim) Marshall's avatar

Mr. Westmoreland, that's an interesting hypothesis. Nothing is off the table with DJT!

At 79 I surly won't see the long term end game play out even if I live to 100. It will be interesting to observe as time rolls on. The second paragraph of your reply makes good sense to me.

Tom Langdon's avatar

OMG this missive is so void of meaningful content that I just bitch slapped myself to assure myself that I was not dreaming.

RANDALL R NORTON's avatar

I chuckled about your message method - but it doesn't mean I agree with it.

Tom Langdon's avatar

Yeah, but humor should bridge ideology if only for moment. Carry on!

Bob O'Brien's avatar

Bill, todays ramble is so insulting to our military, our country, the administration and anything and any body not aligned with your agenda

An Ol' LSO's avatar

Unfortunately our military and our government are a complete mess. They have become evil. They actually think that everyone must do what they say. And, if you don't, they will kill you. I guess this is what happens as empires end. They just can't stand it that they aren't feared by everybody. Even good ol' Canada is "bitch-slappin'" Trump! The agenda that is truly horrendous as seen in this war and the genocide in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria is that by the US and Israel. Israel is finding payback is a bitch.

Bob O'Brien's avatar

Evil? You cant be serious.

Tom Langdon's avatar

Dear An, change is difficult.

Cartero Atómico's avatar

Insulting to the military is putting their lives on the line while you host million dollar fund raisers at your estates. Insulting is talking about drapes and ballrooms before the dead soldiers are laid to rest.

Bob O'Brien's avatar

Cartero, go back to watching CNN.

Cartero Atómico's avatar

I don't watch mass media Operation Mockingbird garbage. But why not address the issue - as a veteran I find it disgusting that an obese draft dodger is putting lives on the line while he parties at his mansions with billionaires. I find it disgusting that this mission is so important but doesn't encourage his multimillionaire son to enlist. And that grifters Eric and Little Donnie are making profits on the war selling drones to the Pentagon.

Bob O'Brien's avatar

Where was all this outrage when obama and biden were giving these sick whacko muslim fanatics Billions of dollars and allowing them to come within weeks of having a nuclear bomb which you know they would have used. I too served and your hatred and TDS is shameful.

Cartero Atómico's avatar

Same story. I detest Obama- bailed out the crooked Banksters and dropped more bombs than Bush. Shameful to hate a fat adulterous draft dodger who screwed small contractors when he bankrupted his AC casinos? Shameful to hate a man who puts Israel not the US first? Why do you worship this sick man and his growing family? A guy who sells $59.99 Bibles printed in CHINA for $3. Like Marco Rubio once said - Trump is a con artist.

Bob O'Brien's avatar

Cartero, I only worship God. You are the sick man for being so filled with hate driven by your TDS. And yes it is a sickness.

Tlasso's avatar

Cartero,

You don't have to like the man to like his policies. Iran's leaders are evil. I am all for fixing the problems that have been neglected for decades now. I served 23 years. we have had nothing but draft dodgers going back to JFK. Politicians for the most part are worthless but you deal with reality. If DJT wasn't elected the can would have been kicked down the road until Iran dropped a nuc on Israel. Then WW3. I would much prefer a leader that actually honors our soldiers than the one that looked at his watch while our bodies were being unloaded from the plane from Afghanistan. And I prefer Raising Caine and Hegseth to Austin and Miley. We actually have people leading the departments that know what they are doing. NOW if we could get Congress to grow a pair and not be so political and do some immigration reform, actual budgeting, and cut our deficit we might survive as a nation. But I am afraid it is not to be since there are few that have any vested interest in changing what is broken and just want to enrich themselves instead. And no the military isn't evil. They follow their civilian orders as they are supposed to.

Respectfully,

Cartero Atómico's avatar

Maybe you will find this shameful. After mentioning the service members killed in his war Trump immediately pivoted to this: “We have a lot of great service members here with us in this beautiful building. Isn’t it beautiful. We’re adding onto the building,” Trump said, pointing to the drapes. “See that nice drape? When that comes down right now you see a very, very deep hole. But in about a year and half from now, you’re gonna see a very, very beautiful building. And there’s your entrance to it right there." What a great patriot!

Dan's avatar

Bill, you out did yourself on today’s column. Let’s start with a conclusion you reach whereby the US is bombing Iran to “turn these people [Iranians] into our friends and allies.” Then you compare it to slapping a woman, “bitchslap” is the term you used. Then you go for the trifecta and make the claim that Hegseth and Trump have “personal experience with” such conduct. Jesus, Bill, how can you, an alleged gentleman of means lower yourself to such despicable statements? You continue to refer to the assaulting of women and the conduct tied to Hegseth and Trump as your commentary ends.

Although I have stated my complaint with your prose several times primarily due to the lack of financial value much of it provides to the paying subscribers, I find this discussion so offensive and vial that I question your sanity, or at least your sobriety. I read the comments that your prose generates and find dismay in those strings that resort to name calling because none of what you say, or those who comment on said prose, will amount to a POS after I leave the site. I also attribute the harsh language to persons who push others to name calling and insults and generates name calling from both combatants. I also suspect that the two, or more, combatants will cool down after signing off and start a more civilized conversation when they next join the fray.

Your offense is you have sunk to the level of vile prose that exceeds name calling. First you make a nonsensical relationship between military bombing to assaulting a woman, an act I find morally representable. Isn’t bombing morally representable? No, in war it is not, and its victims can and do include women. War is hell and its consequences are terrible. However, it is legal and moral. Bitch slapping a woman is an attempt to punish a woman, and is never legal or moral. Lastly, where is your proof that either Hegseth or Trump have assaulted a woman? Oh, you say, there is a rumor that they have. Hell, Bill, there is a rumor that you have had sex with goats! How do I know such? Because I just started it! Is there any proof? Of course not, but I can now make such a comparison and publish it in a national forum in the attempt to compare such behavior to a the Iran war. Rest easy, Bill. I won’t mention your proclivity for beastiality again. I request, but don’t expect, that you apologize for these comments and keep your conversation at a higher level than you chose today.

Brian H's avatar

I wish I could write a rebutal as well as this. Good job Dan. Pray for America!

Tom Langdon's avatar

So Dan, I very much liked and agreed with your commentary however, I two, though not very important, observations. The POS comment could be construed as the pot calling the kettle black. And secondly, in the vernacular, a bitch slap is not intended for a female rather, it intended to eminent from a male to another male in an effort to detract from his masculinity.

Jimm Roberts's avatar

Your critique of Bill’s opinion was too long and unimaginative.

Surely you agree with his thesis that bludgeoning Iran and murdering the religious leader of millions of Shiite Muslims will not make Iranians and Shiites worldwide admire and respect the US

Fred's avatar

Yeah, wondering if anyone else was hearing his insulting garbage today.

Allan R Camrud's avatar

As usual your analogies should be bombed and bitch slapped ... not a good look Billy boy.

Agent22Smith's avatar

Your detractors will really dislike this column. The bitchslap analogy is straight out of SNL’s Weekend Update.

STEVE SHIRLEY's avatar

Indeed. When your country is led by unserious people, an unserious analogy is apropos!

Flier's avatar

America has not been terribly successful at asymmetric warfare -- witness Vietnam and Afghanistan as examples -- but we don't seem to learn the correct lesson or to come up with a solution other than bombing or subversion.

At least this time we managed to decapitate the leadership with bombs, but it remains to be seen if that will cause the war to stop. In the meantime it would be good to isolate and disempower the lone wolf terrorists who appear to have slipped across our porous border.

An Ol' LSO's avatar

"Slipped across" - more likely invited with open arms. The porous borders of our southwest have been open gates for who knows what including drugs of all kinds. Do you think anyone might have been getting paid off to let that happen? Nah - can't happen in the good ol' USofA - our leaders in Washington only want what is best for us peons. If anyone missed that.......it was tongue-in-cheek.

Harold Shaeffer's avatar

1. Higher oil prices throughout the world. 2. Coming food shortages, i.e. lack of Urea. 3. Now higher interest rates, and 4. Final outcome of this military fiasco - who knows or cares?

It would seem that the bunch that started this "let's wipe Iran off the face of the earth" should be having 2nd thoughts. But I guess we just have to keep believing the good news from Fox.

Paul Murray's avatar

It's palpable: Bill's fantasy is coming true; the Big Loss is finally at hand! This is it! Just inches away from destruction and disaster. Oh, happy day.... Best always. PM

Not entirely true, Bill.

Some of us saw the writing on the wall and invested in LMT, RTX, NOC, GD, etc.

In dollar terms, we definitely got richer.

See the link I posted, America is a winner in many areas

Tlasso's avatar

One of your greatest miscalculations BB. "...we aimed to turn these bad people into our friends and allies." No, we aim to turn them into dead enemies Bill. The people there, Persians etc. we hope to turn into our allies and friends and have decades of peace.

david hadley's avatar

Easy comment to write Bill when you forget about the 20-30,000 Iranians who died trying to free themselves of this barbaric death cult called Islam.

Cartero Atómico's avatar

Why would any country agree to help Trump and Netanyahu pay for this "excursion" when they are suffering the consequences of it? And I'm not making this about domestic policy but rather an economic policy that has been exploding the national debt under both teams. I am an American born in Philadelphia and I remember when Trump, a NYC liberal at the time, bankrupted his casinos and screwed the small contractors.

Tim Pallies's avatar

"Give her the ol’ bitchslap."

Gotta admit. I didn't see that coming.
