The Primary Trend is not determined by what people want or what they expect. Instead, they get what they deserve, shaped by patterns of history rather than the conscious efforts of those who live it.
Ben Franklin could have roused a drunk on the sidewalk of Philadelphia, dunked him in the watering trough, and asked of him, "What do you think of our new Country?", and the drunk could have stammered, "It will fail.", and the man, with a 50-50 chance of being right, would be hailed today as a prophet. As a sophomore in high school (1967-68), I took a required class "Ancient History", which turned out to be a study of failed human enterprises, ending with the fall of the Roman Empire. The message was not lost on me: the USA will fail as well at some point. What neither I nor any of my cohorts expected was that it would be doing so in my lifetime. Guess what? Best always. PM
What concerned me in the day was what I call the Great Disconnect: sure, it's OK for Athens and Rome to fail, even the Egyptians and their Sun God, but, we all know that it can't happen HERE. Ummm.... Best always. PM
Excellent point. Actually, I’m concerned that leaving some number of millions of unvetted people in here has already started this country on the road to oblivion. I’m hoping this issue can be corrected but with the Left acting so insanely stupid I have my doubts.
Thanks. Another of my theories is: technology accelerates demise. Now, Rome prospered in a time when communications and developments took months. Now, it takes mere seconds. Best always. PM
I spent my life in IT and it’s a very mixed bag. I agree that new technology can make rapid, incredible leaps. But when and why are often poorly understood. The current concept of AI is misnomered because it’s still people writing code. Once machines actually “think” that will be the end of us. (All SF writers see the evolution of machines as the swan song of humans…)
Two quick points:
1) war (drones and other science) is changing rapidly. But nobody knows just where it will go in the next few years.
2) the golden dome will require MILLIONS of lines of code. Who will code it and HOW will they test it?
It’s a challenging subject worthy of much discussion.
As if we ever were. The human being's original "code" brings about self-destruction. "Soylent Green is people!" Thanks for taking the time to elucidate and inform. Best always. PM
Perception is an amazing thing. I too have been reading Bill for years. I've never thought him bias. He criticizes one and all relentlessly. Rightly so in my opinion. They are all from the same ilk, after all. Two sides of the same coin kind of thing.
Meh - I've read him for years as well. I'm having a hard time recalling anywhere near the same level of Vitriol or immature, personal insults for O'blowme or TraitorJoe...
"We can simplify. The idea is to pass a ‘big, beautiful bill’ that changes everything... but nothing."...sadly, this is exactly correct. The UniParty is fully in charge. "Drain the swamp" seems quainter and quainter by the hour. Apparently that was sooooo 2017.
Today Mr. Bonner accurately takes us on a selective tour through a house of detrimental, dilapidated Facts that was built over the past 20-30 years, then he ties it all back to being the fault of Donald J. Trump.
Just had a thought that came to me out of the blue. Could Bill Bonner actually be Joe Biden? Oh, maybe not. Bill actually makes sense once in a while. Joe never has.
You've got to love it, "WE DON'T TAKE SIDES". That may be correct in a sense; however, when the continual coverage of Trump is 80% or more negative versus the Democratic coverage, "sense" is even a big stretch. But, we do agree with Bill on one thing. If we don't start getting "greatly" reduced spending and balance budgets all hell is going to break loose.
Bill: everyone in government, including our leader, do not want to quickly cut anything that will create an uproar by the general population; this is deadly for re-election. I hope that in the near future four things are done which will reduce the deficit. 1. Change the retirement age to 70. 2. Have to work for Medicaid (and only for citizens and people debilitated). 3. Reduce the military budget to a more reasonable amount . 4. No spending on countries that hate us. Unfortunately for Bill he has been taking sides for years. In my opinion Obama and Biden both accelerated the demise of America. Only time will tell if Trump can make America great again. Milei, in Argentina, may not last for more than one term, the people want to continue getting the ‘freebies’. It is painful to cut expenditures.
I wish him the best but the GDP of Argentina was (I believe) about $640B last year. At over $30T, the U.S. economy is a much bigger boat to turn around.
Remember 10 or so years back when China was going to steamroll the U.S. and jump to the #1 spot? Guess what didn’t happen. Now China appears to be in deep economic trouble.
I still say give Trump a chance, but never forget the creativity and ingenuity of the American workers.
Hey Bill, let me give you a couple things to comment on next:
1) Leftist Federal judges intentionally breaking Federal laws on protect illegal immigrant felons.
2) Leftist politicians trying to enter a federal detention center illegally.
A few notes on this second one. First the mayor of Newark has absolutely no oversight authority on any federal facility. Second, while U.S. congress people likely do, they need to go through the proper oversight process which includes following the appropriate procedures. Showing up at the door and demanding entrance is not the proper procedure. This was a totally staged event, unless you think that roughly 2 dozen reporters simply sit outside the facility every day waiting for something to happen.
Lotsa mud, flimflam and misdirection today. Is the "big, beautiful bill" the best it could have been? No - not by a long shot. But it also isn't the "Business as Usual Doom" Mr. Bonner would have us believe and DOES make some significant steps in the right direction. Steps we would have NEVER seen if the cackling toddler had been able to steal last November. To get a bit of Clarity, listen to these quick words from one of the few trustworthy "politicians" we have:
I wonder if it dawns on Bill that the main reason the R's and Trump can't get the things they want legislatively is because the goose-stepping D's won't break ranks and vote with us, we the people? And he keeps chanting the false Marxist mantra that cutting taxes increases deficits and debt. As we all know, it's not true regardless of how many times he says it.
Excellent point. The Dems want to pay Illegal Immigrants to kill Americans.
And historically MOST major tax cuts have resulted in increased federal revenues. The multiplier effect works well as long as the upper class leaves the trickle-down process alone.
Mr. Boaman, Correct. The tax cuts might be theoretically adding to the fed. govt.'s deficit/debt, but they generate more revenue for the fed. & state governments. The hurdle this time compared to what Pres. Reagan did in the 1980s with his tax cuts is the Debt/GDP situation, which averaged 40% in the 1980s, and averages about 120%-130% now. But it's not just the tax cuts, but other measures Pres. Trump and the GOP are trying to enact, such as cutting govt. fraud and waste, reducing regulations on U.S. businesses, trying to get a handle on the tariff matter, and removing illegal alien peasants who, if ever granted amnesty, would overwhelmingly vote for endless govt. borrowing and spending. So it's the total package.
Thanks for the link. A very sober assessment of where we're at, that they've accomplished a lot, but there is much, much more to do. A first step in the right direction, but maybe not quite a big enough step, but we're moving forward. That's how I interpret what he said.
Both parties are hypocrites and liars…all they care about is to stay in power…Remember 2019 with the improved revenues and the greatest economy ever…deficit was one trillion, so much for trickle down…
Dave J. beat me to the haymaker. "We remind readers that we do not take sides..." - Bill's first sentence today. If you didn't take sides, you would have been less vindictive in your prose. You are nothing but vindictive, always blaming those attempting to fix things. Are the succeeding? I do not know, I do now that the effort is there.
As for your B-u-l-l-s-h-i-t, you are constantly slamming anything that attempts to change "something". Yet you continue to offer ZERO solutions. Well, well mr. big time investor, where is your model? What would you do? How about a list of things to propose what you term "real change"?
Or have you too been suffering from prostate cancer for the last four years, but, um, you just found out?
Seems the winds of BS come freely to you yet you offer nothing but derogatory slams, and telling your readers that ain't the way to do it. Well WTF is the way Billy?
Well, I was going to post my own comment, but I'm not sure I have to. You summed it up quite nicely. Although, I will give Bonner credit for mentioning the Medicaid issue. Don't know why Trump is defending it with so many able-bodied single men on it due to Obama's changes. Is there some sort of political strategy behind his position? The Federal budget needs to be eviscerated and unfortunately, Trump doesn't seem to be doing that. It seemed that he was doing that initially, but now it seems that he is backing off. Hope I'm wrong, but I do appreciate your comments.
Trumps defense, IMHO is, optics. IF he slashes what is viewed as entitlements he feeds the negative narrative the dems portray. They are waiting for just such a position to campaign on.
I agree completely. They want more work requirements but to go too far on this first bill simply endangers the whole process. I would expect a lot more bills attacking specifics once this bill gets processed. His tax cuts are the key promise at this point.
They're not "waiting" on any thing - they just make up lies that fit those narratives and count on the Stupidity of their lemmings to bleat them back on cue....
hey Billy boy, wondering "when you say you don't take sides", you don't bring up facts on the dem side of this wing nut? Specifically, district judges throwing up roadblocks and legislating from the bench. Every solution Trump puts forward, some asinine district blowhard gets his 15 minutes. Yet, not one F'ing peep out of Billy Boy the Bullshizer. Interesting..... and you don't take sides. lmao
Straight from the haunted funhouse of American fiscal “leadership,” where the punchlines have bullet holes and the math is performed by blindfolded clowns on roller skates. Picture a ruling class so terrified of “meaningful cuts” that their grand solution to a $60 trillion debt is to legalize tax breaks for the waiter who forgot your ketchup, because nothing says ‘fiscal responsibility’ like a Senate that’d rather torch the future than treat tips like real income.
The deficit’s ballooning like a botched lip job, but never fear, Congress just passed the fiscal equivalent of legalizing arson because it “warms the economy.”
Want to dodge a $60 trillion national debt? Forget balancing the books, just slip a fiver to your bartender and watch the Senate hand you a tax cut with both hands, grinning like undertakers who bill by the corpse. The world’s richest empire now funds its future by rummaging through couch cushions and calling it “reform.” We’re not mortgaging our children’s future, we’re selling their organs for spare change and labeling it “revenue neutral.”
Meanwhile, the only thing less meaningful than a promise to cut “waste, fraud, and abuse” is the look on a senator’s face when you ask if tips are income. The whole chamber, in one unanimous, bipartisan séance, summoned the dark spirit of bankruptcy and gave it a standing ovation. So let’s carve another trillion off the tax base and toss it in the flaming dumpster of unfunded liabilities, because if there’s one thing America needs, it’s more ways to hemorrhage cash while pretending the boat isn’t on fire. In this government, reform is a four-letter word, arithmetic is performance art, and the joke isn’t that the empire’s collapsing, the joke is, we paid extra to watch it happen in 3D.
Snort. The dims in the Senate only agreed so they could run on having supported No Tax on Tips (they literally have NOTHING else) and there was some good stuff included with the continued Overspending fiasco that just "passed" the House - like a peach pit.
Codifying Trump 1's Tax Cuts into Law, a new Work Requirement to cut out a fraction of the Fraud in Medicaid, increased funds for Border Security & Patrol, the rolling back of what will turn out to be thousands of BS Regulations on Business and the streamlining of Permitting for New and Existing Energy endeavors are steps in the right direction. Still spending more than we bring in - but Legislative Actions like these haven't been seen in the past 30 years. Whatever. Orange Hitler Bad, amIright?
Now watch the professional domestic enemies (the US Senate) try to completely roll back this tiny bit of Progress while adding in additional "Appropriations" we don't have.
That'll be Trump's fault too....
PS - Baseline Numbers, Primary Ingredients and Foundational Facts are important things - so if the Kenyan-in-Chief is coming out hating on the Big, Beautiful Bill, it must be a net positive for America in the long run. If we're gonna continue to overspend, let's do it for things that are actually GOOD for America. Here's a short list for all the whiners....
I like Trump a lot. I believe he has US interests, the middle class, at his center. But that doesn't mean he can interrupt history or said another way that he can interrupt human nature. My guess is humans want the economy to get better and resolve all the stupidity of 36T in debt that they have allowed on themselves. It was easy, it had momentum, we achieved a greater form of luxurious life in some sense i.e. more goods. But I do agree with Bill, but my description would be that human nature and its desire to get better, without effort and time and discipline, and its desire to avoid any negative consequences will win out over reality. 36T is a rather large obstacle.
I surely wish some leaders would get elected who actually care about the country, not just the power of the position they seek and the largesse they can sprinkle around to get re-elected! Statesmen, where are you?
Bill: everyone in government, including our leader, do not want to quickly cut anything that will create an uproar by the general population; this is deadly for re-election. I hope that in the near future four things are done which will reduce the deficit. 1. Change the retirement age to 70. 2. Have to work for Medicaid (and only for citizens and people debilitated). 3. Milei, in Argentina, may not last for more than one term, the people want to continue getting the ‘freebies’. It is painful to cut expenditures.
AP: It's very easy to say that Obama and Biden accelerated the demise of America and at least give some facts to your allegations. Well, so far I don't think Trump is doing a great job except to make a lot of money for himself..hawking new merchandise like Trump Boots, Coins, shoelaces, bibles, watches, gold bars and lord only knows what else. Real presidential.
Please help me understand. In this latest article, you state that 30-yr US bond yields are back over 5%. TreasuryDirect shows the latest auction results (5/15/25) for the 30-yr at 4.75% with a high-yield at 4.819%. Where does the 5% come from? You also state the the 10-yr is at 4.6%. TD shows the latest 10-yr (5/15/25) at 4.25% with a high-yield at 4.342%. What am I missing?
As far as I know, when bidding on Treasury direct you're participating in the Primary Market. Most news and stock websites are quoting yields in the secondary market, between traders.
Aside from every media headline saying the bond vigilantes are back and Treasury yields are running away after a less-than-stellar-20-YR auction yesterday, a few things to keep in mind:
We began the year at 4.58% on 10’s and closed today at, wait for it … 4.54%.
Yesterday’s 20-YR auction that went so poorly priced the yield in the auction a whopping 1.2 bps above ask (where a bps is one hundredth of one percent).
The mean US 10-YR Treasury yield over the past 100 years has been, wait for it… 4.5%. In other words, we have been here before (or technically, most of the time).
I am not in any way, shape or form dismissing the $36T heap of debt we carry, equating to an uncomfortable level of interest expense at today’s rates. We are now at 18% of tax revenue going to service this debt, which is historically quite high. Whether it’s raising tax rates/revenue (i.e., Tariffs), decreasing spending (i.e., DOGE), or growing the tax base (i.e., a supply-side tax bill and deregulation), it remains a very steep uphill climb to find a politically viable long-term solution. Still, the things I am not worried about at all are the US paying its bills, the demise of the American spirit to drive innovation and productivity, and the honor and respect we pay to our fallen heroes who made any of it possible. Happy Memorial Day weekend.
Rome did last about 1000 years, and Naiz Germany came much closer than most people know or care to mention.
Have a great day.
What concerned me in the day was what I call the Great Disconnect: sure, it's OK for Athens and Rome to fail, even the Egyptians and their Sun God, but, we all know that it can't happen HERE. Ummm.... Best always. PM

I spent my life in IT and it’s a very mixed bag. I agree that new technology can make rapid, incredible leaps. But when and why are often poorly understood. The current concept of AI is misnomered because it’s still people writing code. Once machines actually “think” that will be the end of us. Have a great day.
The correct description of A.I. should be alternative intelligence, however the initial code is written by humans.
When the "machine" realizes it can modify itself, we will no longer have control.
At some point in the near future the majority of humans will be seen as surplus to requirements.
The "reset" was the beginning of this process, and the mass "supplement
program" was the first stage.
A bitter pill but we the people are no longer in charge of our destiny!
As if we ever were. The human being's original "code" brings about self-destruction. "Soylent Green is people!" Thanks for taking the time to elucidate and inform. Best always. PM

Starboard, you don’t recall because it didn’t happen
And yet I seem to remember him writing in the past that no one was all good or all bad. I guess he meant with the exception of Donald Trump.
😂😂😂
🤣
"We remind readers that we do not take sides..." - Bill's first sentence today
After I cleaned up the coffee I spit up all over my desk, I finished reading this missive. We have to hand it to Bill, he makes Joe Biden seem lucid.
Yeah, that's quite a whopper.
🤣 same thing here Dave!
Well, to anyone who holds moderately extreme views, a centrist would seem tp be "taking sides".
"Moderately extreme views"? That's quite the oxymoron, and who would that be exactly?

And better not watch this - it will upset the MSM/Bonner Conditioning:

Dan:
From David Bahnsen today.
