I was born in 1952, lived my whole life in this country except for 1 year in Germany (1972-73). When I was a kid, America, as she was then, was 90% white. Ponder that. Now, the "country", such as it is, is barely majority-white, and may actually no longer be so. No one knows with the non-existent border. Never in my ascendant youth and middle life did I EVER consider the White Man would so totally give up on himself, but give up and QUIT he did, and here we are. We are living the Great Decline. Best always. PM
I understand where you're coming from, but don't sell the other races short, or even frame the discussion in terms of race. We are all individuals first and should be evaluated as such. It is not that the "White Man" gave up on himself or "QUIT", but that he embraced Progressive ideology. It is Progressive Ideology that is destroying this country, and its majority of advocates is the "White Man". Those fighting this insidious ideology, which I refer to as progressive fascist nihilist ideology are members of all races. Anyone that has come to the conclusion that life requires effort guided by rational thought is a potential ally against the progressives.
"White man" is an illegitimate colonialists' claim to cleanliness, brilliance, and purity. Most of us here are pink men. Face it, we are all colored people. None of us are white.
I personally know quite a few first and second generation Hispanics, and a few from the old Soviet block countries. For the most part, they are more conservative than the average Republican.
Today’s 2024, 16 year olds will be talking over a beer about …
“Do you remember a 20 odd years back, when there were those two white geriatrics wanting to lead a country?
“Which one was it again that was the least worst idiot?
“Oh and where was it again Haiti or somewhere nearby ?“
Shakespeare could have written a manuscript for theatre… “Of Lies and Falling Up”.
Would be really interesting to know, how many of our readership now, are about the ripe old age of 40.
In 2000 they were just 16 and we western and even some eastern brethren, were sweating then the forthcoming end of the world as we knew it.
Do you remember the occasion?
Y2K. Armageddon, we’re all done for (except for the big corporates!)
In 2048 I will be 100, dead or perhaps in diapers again.
Current intelligent 40 year olds then at 64, will probably want to retreat at weekends from the other 15 billion multi cultural communes of insect eaters, on the interplanetary, to their Mars holiday shacks…
LOL, thanks JayCee for some levity - God knows we all need it.
My wife and I fondly remember growing up in the 60s & 70s and how simple and enjoyable life was back then. I'm 63 and IMO, today's generations are all about quantity and speed: scheduled sports events, texting speed between snippets, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, X. The wife keeps me informed about friends activities online.
I prefer quality time in speaking live with friends and new people and phone calls.
To me, many aspects of social media remind me of folks that desire audiences for them every day in their lives. Are the posts really valuable to the recipients or is it a way for the sender to just feel good about themselves? Occasionally, that's fine but some are hourly/daily posts of lunch. Not an enjoyable way to spend life. I'd rather climb mountains, garden and travel the world to learn about other cultures. Then, send a few pics post adventure.
It’s true, but we always hope the cycle is broken. Obviously, realizing the revolving comedy 🎭 is a break; maybe, enough will break with the prevailing idiocy to cause, what they call, a tipping point. But that would take considerable action and difficulty and only the criminals believe in violence. Tipping points are always precarious, just the episodes the violent criminals love most.
I was self-employed for years, most of my career. At a convention once, a colleague asked me, "How many times have you been sued?" Somewhat taken aback, my reply was "Never." His response: "Then you aren't trying hard enough." Congratulations; you made the Club! Best always. PM
The only "gun problem" the USA has is that too many people are not allowed to carry one, and too many of those who do are not well trained. But thanks for your concern.
We've had millions of guns in this country for its entire history. I bought my shotgun from K mart when I was 15 years old. I used my awn mowing money. I also bought the ammo. I brought them home on my red and white executive flier bicycle. I shot at things in my suburban backyard. Never killed anyone . Nobody complained. Please refer to the statistic cited above. It's not the guns. It's the people and perhaps particularly a cultural rot that needs to be addressed. If not as noted above "live with it."
I acknowledge all of the replies from the pro- gun commentators, and admit that every opinion is only a matter of perspective. I’m sure the positives of wholesale gun ownership are many…I wish all of your communities well, and genuinely hope the negatives associated with your country’s policies don’t impact on you personally. I am coping with the negatives of Australia’s gun policy. I can still own a firearm if I join the local gun club here…
Tony, there's only one thing you have to know about our Second Amendment--its purpose is to keep the government in check. Period. While we put up with a lot from our lovely gov't, them knowing that there are approx. 350,000,000 guns in the hands of the citizenry, and a lot of very well-trained vets handling them, surely gives them pause. I encourage you to join the local club.
You wrote: "hope the negatives associated with your country’s policies don’t impact on you personally."
You seem like a decent fellow and someone who can be reasoned with, so I'd like to relate a couple of stories (and then make a final point) for your consideration.
Story #1. In 2003, a good friend of mine (Scott) moved to the big city to be near a woman he was dating at the time, and who he eventually married. He had been there for less than a week when the following incident took place.
His girlfriend came over to visit him in his new place, and while there, her ex-husband showed up. No niceties were exchanged as he simply barged in through the front door with a knife in his hand. She screamed and ran while he chased after her. Scott was in the kitchen getting some drinks when he heard her scream. He immediately came out, assessed the situation, and headed straight for a coat closet near the front door where he kept the only gun he had at the time--a Remington 700 rifle chambered in 7mm mag. His girlfriend was dodging back and forth trying to keep a small table between herself and her ex, who was trying his best to stick the knife in her. Scott quickly chambered a round, and from a distance of about 10 feet he placed a 150 gr. Core-Lokt in about the center of Mr. Knife Wielder's back. Anyone who understands the nomenclature also understands what the result was.
Here are a couple of statistics regarding the incident. Scott topped out at 5'8 and about 160 lbs. His girlfriend's ex was 6'3 and weighed about 260. Absent that rifle, his girlfriend would have died, and had Scott tried to intervene with nothing but his bare hands he most likely would have died also. It was the rifle that made all the difference.
Story #2. Back in the early 90s I was working in Kemmerer Wyoming for a short time. At the end of a very long work day, I was driving a corporate vehicle back to a service center parking lot where my personal vehicle was parked. About a half mile from the service center, a pick-up pulled in behind me and followed very closely all the way to the center parking lot. I had a bad feeling about it, so as soon as I pulled into the lot I bailed out and headed directly to my truck where I kept a Smith & Wesson 686 .357 mag. About the time I opened the truck door the guys in the pick-up were bailing out of theirs. One of them was wielding what appeared to be an axe handle without the head, and the three of them were clearly drunk. The guy with the axe handle was screaming profanities and expressing his intent to club me to death.
As the three of them approached, I pointed the Smith at them and made it clear that I was tired and in no mood for their bull****. When they saw the gun they had an immediate attitude adjustment. "Dude, we were just kidding--it's cool--no worries--we're leaving."
Now, I have no way of knowing if they were kidding or not, but there is no doubt that the gun made all the difference in the world if they weren't.
Tony, I have been around guns my entire life. I have fired literally millions of rounds, participated in numerous shooting sports, and hunted pretty much everything in North America. And most all of the people I have hung around with could say the same. And in all that time I have never been impacted negatively by a gun. When it comes to guns, it's all been very positive, and I don't expect that to change.
I'd like to add a little note to my post. After reading it I realized that "literally millions of rounds" could leave the wrong impression and perhaps seem like I was talking about 10 or 15 or some other very large number, which wasn't the case.
I have kept a pretty detailed journal since I was 16 years old, and I have a pretty good idea of how much shooting I did before that. In the 60+ years I have had guns in my hands, I have conservatively fired around 2.5 million rounds. When I said "millions" that's what I meant.
If the death-by-gun rate in the Black segment of the society is 10-15 times that of the white segment, then focusing on race helps get to the bottom of the problem. We don't want to do that for fear of what we might find. The problem isn't guns; the problem is people. I can put a large stack of guns at your feet, and you can stand right there, and if no one touches the guns, you will not be harmed. Best always. PM
This brought back memories. When we lived & worked in England, I generally accepted the ways of the English. After all, I was a “guest” in their country. I also recalled one theme in graduate school. We were taught to stay out of politics. Learn about it, adjust to it. Don’t think you have the right to shape it. How quaint and archaic.
Thanks for the clarification! Agree with your comment that now it’s common place. The only concern of mine is that since Teddy Roosevelt, the US has actually been doing it; all in the name of protecting American interests.
As the world transform to Commodities and the US$ slides down to just another fiat foreign currency, the West (U.S./Canada/Europe) will become more and more irrelevant. The vast majority of population and commodities lie elsewhere. Most in the West today find that laughable or impossible. But - just look at what ol' Bill said........France is awash with foreigners and that flood will eventually consume Europe. It is happening in the U.S. with the flood of migrants from the south. It is what today's elites want........but, unfortunately, they know not what they do.
Tony, I have only one question for you and that is: If I take a GUN and place it on the kitchen table loaded and put on safety what problem do you think that would cause. I will help you with that answer "none". You see the problem is not the GUN it's what you do with it. If you let a child that is too young or if of age that is not told how to properly handle a firearm that is when you have a problem. If you let someone steal that GUN they probably are going to use it to create a problem or sell it to some one who will. The GUN is not the problem the HUMAN who uses the GUN for nefarious purposes is the PROBLEM. And if you think that eliminating GUNS will solve the problems then I suggest you ask Laken Rileys parents or the five children of the mother in Maryland or the parents of the twelve year old in Houston if restricting GUNS would have helped their families. Criminals don't follow the law, that why we call them criminals. If they don't have a GUN they will use something else please don't support a program to take away the right of an individual to defend themselves and there loved ones from criminals.
I grew up in NYC (Queens/Brooklyn). Then when I was 21 in 1980 moved to LA. I was accustomed to people from every corner of the world. It was no problem because it was orderly. Now this is very different. My grandparents were immigrants from Sicily. They intentionally did not teach us how to speak Italian! When I was a young person if I had said I was Italian my grandpa would quickly correct me by saying "no you are an American"! I have not seen that type of loyalty from recent immigrants over the last 40 years. God help us. The bible warns against open borders.
some think "inflation" will be discussed?? they both caused it, if they were smart they would both avoid it, although IT is the major problem facing us over the coming years.
Daily it becomes more evident that we proles are becoming more sick and tired of our autocratic elite class. I wonder what happens next? Don't forget to vote!
Of the choices offered immigration will probably be the most used. However “I” “ We” will be the front runner from the two bloviators on stage tonight. Unfortunately “they” “them” will never take true credit for the economic and societal disaster THEY have created. Should be entertaining though.
"I think there is a resurgence of anti-Semitism because at this point in time Europe has not yet learned how to be multicultural. And I think we are going to be part of the throes of that transformation, which must take place. Europe is not going to be the monolithic societies they once were in the last century. Jews are going to be at the centre of that. It’s a huge transformation for Europe to make. They are now going into a multicultural mode and Jews will be resented because of our leading role. But without that leading role and without that transformation, Europe will not survive."
Not sure how to take this quote. But, if she thinks the current direction of the shift in Europe will be friendly to Jews because they take a "leading role,” she needs a deeper understanding of the shift.
These people don't hide their intentions so it's best to take them at their word, even if they then slander you after doing so. In Barbara's case, mongrelizing Europe is her life's work.
Too many people on this planet. The smart ones want to live lives that offer safety and opportunity. Hence, it's no surprise that the US and Europe in particular are attracting immigrants. Fortunately, the US needs workers, especially for entry level jobs and for any manual labor. Sad, however, that most immigrants risk their lives to get into the US because of dysfunctional policies
Why would a country of 330,000,000+ people have a labor shortage? That's impossible, until you understand that most of the former labor force is on government subsidy. What the opposition wants isn't labor but VOTES. Best always. PM
You're either a risk-taking, wealth-maker, or you are a wealth-taker living off revenue generated by the former. There are no other categories.
Most by far are wealth-takers, including all government employees -- current and retired -- social security recipients and Medicare beneficiaries
We desperately need more wealth-makers. It's their employees' salaries and their profits from the sales of their products that give the nation more tax revenue
You had me until "give the nation more tax revenue." Why encourage them? How can this country not be able to run itself on 5 trill? But heartily agree with developing more "wealth makers."
I keep forgetting that AI humanoids will probably -- in a decade or two -- be designed to perform all manner of risky, nasty tasks; even tell risque jokes while preparing a libation at days end
Eventually, in the same manner that neighbors judge you and me by the cars we drive and the yards we maintain, the humanoids we possess will become status statements
Agreed, this is why I refuse to participate in the ponzi "social security" or "pension" entitlements. Not that I m necessarily yet qualified according to the policy but when I hear others say get it while you can, sooner the better I just hang my head knowing its true to your above statement.

I hope Trump gives them a decent and truthful attack. Seems he has a right to attack back after 7 years of deplorable lying nonsense.
I recently posted this on The Washington Post and was suspended.
“The average death by gun, Black on Black, is 32 per 100,000, in some cities, 50 per 100,000.
Higher than any countries in the world. The White rate is 3.5 per 100,000.
The gun problem is mostly Black.
That is the statistic, own it, solve it or live with it.
I guess this will be misinformation and racist.”
I was self-employed for years, most of my career. At a convention once, a colleague asked me, "How many times have you been sued?" Somewhat taken aback, my reply was "Never." His response: "Then you aren't trying hard enough." Congratulations; you made the Club! Best always. PM
The only comment I would make here, is that focusing on race distracts from the clearer fact that the US has a massive GUN problem!

As John McEnroe would say, “Are you serious!”
The statistics point out that 70% of the gun problem is by 13% of the people, In enclaves of American cities.
Ah, yes, someone who views freedom with disdain.
a few examples -
1. NRA Convention - firearms are not prohibited and MANY carry. Yet, not ONE incident in over a decade (I don't have immediate data beyond)
2. WHITE gatherings (in general) - how many shootings are in the news??
3. Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, New Orleans, etc etc all have one thing in common.... if one could JUST put their finger on it.....
Thanks for admitting to being a statist......

The black community has a gun problem
I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Australia and New Zealand have much worse gun problems.
Interested to know how you got that impression.
Presuming that 'problem' means killing or wounding by firearm.
Perhaps. It all depends on how someone defines “problem”…
Maybe it's not being allowed to have a gun.
Truthful
What's the wounded number, I wonder.

You were taught to stay out of politics. Was that because you were a foreigner, or just what was taught to all graduate students?
At the time, as an American businessman, it was thought that interfering in another nations politics could be counter=productive. Now it’s de rigueur.
Thanks for the clarification! Agree with your comment that now it’s common place. The only concern of mine is that since Teddy Roosevelt, the US has actually been doing it; all in the name of protecting American interests.

Kudos, would you leave a sharp knife on the table with the child? Some boiling water or a hot curling iron?

These people don't hide their intentions so it's best to take them at their word, even if they then slander you after doing so. In Barbara's case, mongrelizing Europe is her life's work.
Interesting from Ray Dalio today.

"When in doubt, get out—if you don’t want to be in a civil war or a war, you should get out while the getting is good."
PM
Too many parasites on this planet.
Who need employees to make said wealth. These are not wealth takers. A third category for Jimm.
I need to expand my sphere of possibilities.
