I've seen everything but the the 1929 stock market crash and the following Great Depression. I've seen boom times of the 50s, the upheaval of the 60s, the oil embargoes and stagflation of the 70s, the offshoring of the 80s, the boomer-fueled run-up of the 90s, and the dotcom bust and the subsequent near-meltdown of the 2000s, the pandemic bust and debt explosion. Like the song says, I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah. Named for the Duesenberg automobile, a "duesy", or phonetically, "doozy" is something outstanding, special, or bigger/better than its peers. I'm ready. We may never see it. Maybe a duesy/doozy anything no longer exists. Best always. PM

Indeed Mr Bonner, “…reinforcing the Primary Trend…and setting the US for a real doozy of a downtrend.”

Too bad I do not have any opinions. If I did, “…ol’ fishin’ doth protest too much…”; a “doozy”, higher taxes & lower productivity; choosing inflation over austerity. WTH has the U.S. done with its post- WWII powerful “… economy was 600 times bigger than China’s.”? A trip down memory lane here - https://tinyurl.com/4mp3pwn6 - Overthrowing other people's governments By William Blum.

WTH again! Again, troubling is that government pay rose 0.8% in March and is up 8.5% in the past year. Real GDP for the first quarter came in at +1.6%, significantly below the consensus of 2.5% and even outside the consensus range of +1.7% to 2.8%. While net exports (exports – imports) were the largest detractors. GDP dropped from 4.9% in the third quarter of 2023 to 1.6% just two quarters later, which is quite a deceleration.

This is what deceleration looks like: inflation outpacing growth. We are not outgrowing inflation, and that is exactly what we do NOT want to see. Once the government stops spending, the cracks of a fragile economy can’t be covered up. Yup, as Mr Bonner stated today, “…reinforcing the Primary Trend…and setting the US for a real doozy of a downtrend.”

No! It is NOT too late IMHO. So, opinions are like (expletive omitted) everyone has one.

There has been a 12 year period of Au “consolidation. This phase posted the following:

In late 2011, Au ($GOLD chart) peaked @ $1,923.70

In late 2020, Au ($GOLD chart) peaked @ $2,089.20

In 2022, Au ($GOLD chart) went up @ $2,078.80

Recently, Au is confirming a [major?] breakout above $2,000. The last event of this magnitude was in 2005, when Au prices left the $400 level behind …forever!

As of this comment @ 14:30 on 2 May 2024 Kitco spot Au is $2,302 w/ GSR @ 86.27:1

Next leg up for Au w/ est’d price objective approx $2,576.51

One’s own financial decisions are personal. One ought not to compare one’s self to others. Invest in one’s self to the extent that is within a personal spending plan and no more. Anyone want to wager if their heirs of a precious metals inheritance first question is, “what was the “cost basis” of all this stuff?”

China has even more debt than the US. I wonder if Bill read Tom's postcards from China when he pointed out all the ghost buildings and misuse of capital. I also wonder how many Chinese would agree with his analysis. No question the world is in for a bumpy and dangerous ride.

China's empty brand new empty shopping malls! At least we're tearing ours down. Talk about central plannning.. Still, at least they're building while we bomb.

Bill: To what end? Their buildings have been empty as you mention. No one could afford to live in one...so what's the purpose in building them? I would think the upkeep after awhile would be prohibited. Anyway, who knows?

I liked the article and the series but am confused about the Korean War and the Vietnam War as I recall the Chinese had a major role in that at the time and still subsidize N. Korea

Did not the US of A., Inc., and their roster of toady lackeys start, and carry on for years both wars you cited.? China merely continued to trade with their allies, then deemed by the US to be the enemy. Maybe the currently exposed facts and known actions of various parties, just go to show & prove that the US & company, (the 'West') have been ZOG'd for much longer than was previously believed.

It's good to see that Bonner has a sidekick job as China's PR person. There are so many contradictions in this brief column, one could go on forever. At one point, Bonner writes that China has taken the Capitalist path. In another, he writes that they launched a ten-year plan in 2015. Anyone see the contradiction here? Yes, China has embraced some semi-free market policies, but if our government embarked on a ten-year plan, would anyone call that the "free market"? And depending on what the ideas were in this ten-year plan; it's success would be far from certain. A few people cannot run the entire economy - no one is smart enough to understand the millions of interactions among free individuals, let alone the individual talents that it takes to make an economy work and flourish. The advantage (if you want to call it that) that China has is that its leadership seems to understand that it takes work and productive effort to grow the economy - they build powerplants of all types and give the finger to the leftwing Enviro-Nazi movement. We, on the other hand, put roadblocks to developing energy, shackle our businesses with regulations, and embrace the global warming fraud - well, some of us do - the progressive, fascist, nihilist Democrat party. But they are pretty much in power with not enough intelligent Republicans to stop them because there are many of our citizens who vote for the give-a-way Democrats.

While giving credit to China for their development, they accomplished this with a big hand from the West while seemingly ignoring all the anti-industrial, anti-productive, anti-energy claptrap from the left that degrades the growth of Western countries. Besides, any country that is run by an authoritarian regime will also make decisions on the economy based on enhancing political power which will stymie growth. Whenever politics is the main driver, decisions will be made to enhance political power rather than free market power. Therefore, it is not a given that China's future will be bright. It depends on what direction they go in. If they go more toward the free market and give up much of their political power (unlikely unless there is a revolt), they will bury us. If we put in leadership that allows American ingenuity to flourish, then we will be fine.

So, there is hope for us, but only if we return to the free market and take all the chains off our industries. But, of course, Bonner never goes into detail on this - who the players might be that could turn our situation around for example, because he is looking at it from a 50,000-foot perspective while ignoring the details of the policies it would take to make us better. It's pretty easy to be a pessimist rather than make the effort to solve the problem.

BUT YOU ARE RIGHT IN THAT HE DIDN'T BALANCE THE BUDGET, SENT OUT UNNECCESSARY "STIMULUS PAYMENTS", ENCOURAGED LOW INTEREST RATES FROM THE FED, ETC. HE'S FAR FROM PERFECT BUT MUCH BETTER THAN THE ALTERNATIVE. BUT HE NEEDS TO ELIMINATE HIS BAD IDEAS AND GO WITH HIS MANY GOOD ONES. I DON'T THINK WE CAN SURVIVE ANOTHER FOUR YEARS OF BIDEN OR HIS REPLACEMENT WHO WILL JUST PROMOTE THE SAME POLICIES.

Bill .. me thinks that you are making the 'China' story sound a bit better than it actually was or is today .. although you might be able to trace your ancestry back to the mayflower or the actual carnage of the civil war, any Chinese person I know can hardly go back more than one or two generations because the annihilation of over 55 million during Mao's purge destroyed so many families along with all the other ideas that we in the WEST value .. the East does NOT have those values at least not at the same level of importance that western countries do .. yes the west has made the mistake of pushing their perspectives onto lesser nations but mostly as a benefactor like what Buffet son is doing in Rwanda or Gates in Uganda etc and what the Chinese are doing with their 'Silk Road' initiative. Everyone want friends and win-win deals but one side always gets a slightly bigger win eh ? Like China now in the south pacific. Often the USA help was well intended but misguided or misused by the recipients whom we could hardly control even by GOOD example so me thinks at times you are exaggerating the negative .. without the Marshall Plan I would not be writing to you and Germany would still be struggling to pay war reparations as its still doing after 80 years to Israel .. every year 85 billion Euros worth of goods/services gets transferred to PAY off German GUILT .. so them Hasidic's can go and pray by an old wall while the rest of the normal Israelis are told to go and kill anything that moves so can quickly go and claim/buy beach front property on the Med .. adverts are currently running in TelAviv & Haifa for investors .. all funded by GERMAN GUILT .. I wonder how Guilty China feels about wiping out millions of Asians for centuries ? Do you or Americans ever feel national Guilt ? Australian's are expert at guilt since they obeyed stupid Pommy generals and their misplaced loyalty cost them the cream of their nations gene pool at Gallipoli and across Europe and that massive Guilt is still celebrated today as ANZAC Day really a day of absolute remorse and sadness for being so stupid and gullible, so how gullible are we now ?

I have a high school acquaintance from 50 years ago that became a college professor and is now retired . He is about as far left as one can get. He suggests MAGA types (not that I am one) are not patriots as MAGA types do not want Ukraine to save themselves from evil tyrants like Putin. I asked him if Ukraine can win against a superpower? I also said, the next war may be fought with sticks and stones. I guess a war keeps the economy running, otherwise what would the left have?

The crux of the majority of ALL the American economic policy positions which affect and effect U.S. taxpayers rests at the feet of the feckless progressive POTUS #28’s decision about the formation of, and Congress’s enactment, of the Federal Reserve Act and its system of fractional reserve banking in December 1913.

The crux of the majority of ALL the American political policy positions which affect and effect the U.S. taxpayers since 1966 rest directly at the feet of Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven. Period!
